Deploy an OutSystems 11 factory comprised of 4 environments (LifeTime, Development, Test and Production) in AWS.

    CloudFormation Template (CFT)

AWS CloudFormation templates are JSON or YAML-formatted text files that simplify provisioning and management on AWS. The templates describe the service or application architecture you want to deploy, and AWS CloudFormation uses those templates to provision and configure the required services (such as Amazon EC2 instances or Amazon RDS DB instances). The deployed application and associated resources are called a "stack."

    Usage instructions

This offer enables you to deploy an OutSystems 11 Factory with four environments.

Provide a /24 CIDR to deploy the resources.

Provide your desired DB master admin password and an EC2 key pair to access the Windows Application Servers.

Provide the password of the 5 SQL users that will manage your OutSystems databases.

Provide your desired OutSystems Platform admin password and the OutSystems cache host admin password.

All these credentials will be stored for you in Secrets Manager.

The EC2 instances part of this product require an outbound internet connection to deploy properly. PowerShell Package Provider NuGet and PowerShell Module OutSystems.SetupTools are downloaded and installed on deployment. A PowerShell script is downloaded and executed to automate the setup of the OutSystems Platform. AWS CLIV2 is downloaded and installed for the two Production Environment EC2 instances.

The Production environment EC2 instances require a connection to a provisioned S3 bucket to exchange files. In order for the EC2 instances to have access to the S3 bucket, an IAM Role and an IAM policy will be provisioned and attached to the Production EC2 instances. An additional IAM Role will be provisioned for RDS monitoring capabilities.

To access the platform get the public IPs of each provisioned EC2 and access the environment using http://<EC2PublicIP>/servicecenter. This will work for all environments except Production, where you need to get the load balancer endpoint.

If you don't have previous coding experience, it can be a lot to learn, because of the many feautures.

What I dislike about OutSystems is the high license fees and the limited number of users.

OutSystems solves the business problem of rapid development, allowing us to quickly adapt to market changes. Building within the platform is also intuitive, which enhances our efficiency

Strong low-code platform that easily integrates with other systems

What do you like best about the product?
Strong platform that easily integrates with other applications in our landscape. Increased speed of development, easily create proof of concepts.
What do you dislike about the product?
Only full applications can be transported to the next environment (unless you use feature toggles), so if you have developments that need to be moved but other developments that are not yet ready, this cannot be moved separately.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
OutSystems is our go-to platform for in-house development of applications. Also use to createa user-friendly layer on top of our other (legacy) systems.

Global grocery retailer embracing the power of low code

What do you like best about the product?
OutSystems in Carrefour is highly valued for its speed in application development, enabling teams to build and iterate quickly with minimal hand-coding through a user-friendly, drag-and-drop interface. It supports robust integration with legacy and third-party systems which is beneficial in our landscape, offering flexibility for complex environments. The platform enables cross-platform development, allowing the creation of web and mobile apps from a single codebase, and provides enterprise-level scalability and security. OutSystems’ strong community, extensive documentation, and marketplace, empowers my development teams to innovate efficiently and respond rapidly to changing business needs which is exactly what we need
What do you dislike about the product?
We at Carrefour believe the main drawbacks aboutOutSystems relate to cost and platform limitations. For enterprise-grade projects, the pricing can become prohibitively high, especially for larger teams or projects with heavy integration needs. Additionally, while OutSystems is great for rapid development, the low-code approach can limit customization, which can be frustrating for experienced developers who want more flexibility and control over the code. Some of our developers also note that the performance of OutSystems apps may lag in highly complex applications or where advanced features are required, and it may not be ideal for apps that need frequent, intricate updates. next we also have the ODC roll out which is pushing us back since a shift in focus and finally, the learning curve for understanding OutSystems’ specific logic and architecture can slow down teams unfamiliar with low-code platforms.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
the main problem is time to market. with outsystems we are managing to outpace our competitors with time to market for new apps giving us a big strat benefit.
