GBM Gains Reliability with an AWS Marketplace First Approach

Grupo Bursátil Mexicano (GBM) provides financial products and services for corporations, institutions, and investment firms. GBM wanted to strengthen the reliability of its backend system infrastructure and, through Amazon Web Services (AWS), discovered several innovative solutions that had not previously been on its radar. The company now manages 16 solutions (and counting) procured from AWS Marketplace and sees benefits beyond strengthened system reliability. These benefits include a 30 percent average savings across all AWS Marketplace procurements and a dramatic drop in product support resolution times.

Discovering Backend Solutions

Founded 35 years ago, GBM provides financial products and services for corporations, institutions, and investment firms. The company’s mission is to unleash the financial potential of Mexico and its people. To support this objective, GBM wanted to strengthen the reliability of its backend system infrastructure.
 
The company turned to AWS Marketplace to find the right solutions to strengthen its backend. After consulting with a solution expert, it migrated its security information and event management (SIEM) account to AWS Marketplace. “The AWS team opened our eyes to the possibilities of AWS Marketplace. We immediately saw a big discount over what we were previously paying,” says José Guillermo Ayala, director of site reliability engineering at GBM. “We also found that support was better, so we made the decision to move the rest of our system solutions to AWS Marketplace.”
 
GBM soon found that AWS Marketplace was also a tool for solution discovery to address its business challenges. For example, GBM found software for data protection and management and a solution to get insights to optimize infrastructure and applications across data centers. “The team introduced us to new solutions, better solutions that weren’t previously known to us in Mexico,” explains Ayala. “Our system infrastructure is more reliable as a result.”

GBM now has 16 solutions in its AWS Marketplace portfolio, ranging from security solutions to monitoring and backup solutions. “We’ve focused on acquiring innovative cybersecurity, backup, and monitoring systems,” emphasizes Ayala. “Every time we have a new requirement, we start with AWS Marketplace.”

Saving 30 Percent with Private Offers

Through its AWS Marketplace-first strategy, GBM has not only optimized infrastructure reliability but procurement costs as well. “We save an average of 30 percent on solutions acquired in AWS Marketplace.” Ayala estimates. “These savings have all come from private offers. We always look for private offers from sellers in order to negotiate tailored contracts for our volume and licensing requirements.”
 
AWS Marketplace’s streamlined procurement process also saves GBM time. “Previously, it took at least a month to acquire a new product because we had to complete a lot of internal legal paperwork when onboarding a new partner,” reveals Ayala. “Through AWS Marketplace, it only takes a week to gain the required internal approval.”

Lowering Support Ticket Resolution Time

The ability to build a vendor portfolio in AWS Marketplace brought another big benefit to GBM—faster support ticket resolution. Previously, the company had to escalate support issues through an inefficient network of regional partners before receiving meaningful assistance. This is no longer a problem. According to Ayala, “AWS Marketplace acts as a liaison between us and the vendor, lowering support resolution time to less than half a day, whereas before it would take up to a week to get issues resolved because of all the middlemen that were involved.
