Not perfect, but the future of managing a modern, mixed environment
What do you like best about the product?
Perfect for hybrid Windows/Mac environment. Great feature set, and improving monthly. Combines Identity and Device Management in one.
What do you dislike about the product?
Still not as featured as Active Directory/Azure. Support has become sub-standard so you'll need to figure out most problems yourself.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Like many businesses, we moved into becoming fully remote. We also have an almost 50/50 split Mac/Windows environment and have no physical infrastructure. JumpCloud was an ideal solution to manage the hardware, as well as Identity Management. We've connected many of the core applications the company uses with SSO and the process for on-boarding/off-boarding employees has been greatly improved. It's enabled us to connect a majority of the applications we use with SSO which greatly simplifies credential management. That, combined with the device management and MDM is everything one needs as an IT manager in a remote-based company.

JumpCloud makes things very easy
What do you like best about the product?
It takes a very complex topic - AAA - and provides a reasonably simple, reusable resource to get it implemented pretty much everywhere I need it.
What do you dislike about the product?
That I don't know more about some of the functions. Another feature I'd like to see is a way to control which apps can exist on a client.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The big problem Jumpcloud solved for us was Authentication. The largest benefit is that we're approaching Single Sign On - though we still have some work to do.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Use it - you won't regret it.
Jumpcloud is OK
What do you like best about the product?
I like the fact it means users can login to their device and email using the same login.
What do you dislike about the product?
The fact some support seems limited on Macs or lots of hoops are needed to get the right functionality.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Active Directory Management
Robust iDP capable of complete active directory replacement
What do you like best about the product?
Jumpcloud provides robust identity management services with integrations for AD, LDAP, SAML, Radius, and other providers for easy provisioning. Additionall, the Agent, Policies, and Commands allow it to effectively replace your existing Active Directory structure and allow for remote administration of company computers, without needing a VPN or Azure Cloud.
What do you dislike about the product?
Because of the limitations when working outside the Domain/User structure Windows intended, some feature replacements are clunky - you are largely limited to applying registry tweaks, rather than proper GPO's. All devices create independent local accounts for all users who can login to the machine. While this is not an issue for WFH employees, multi-user machines in the office will quickly fill up with local accounts. Granular user permissions which would typically be managed through the built-in Default Groups must now be assigned manually through Powershell on a per-user and per-machine basis.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are phasing out our Active Directory structure as employees transition to work-from-home. With all our other services fully cloud-based, keeping VPN connections solely to support Active Directory was a waste of time and resources, and Jumpcloud has allowed us to pull machines off the domain while retaining remote administration capabilities.
Jumpcloud is a swiss army knife!
What do you like best about the product?
All the features that are rolled into one product that work for our mixed MacOS/Windows environment.
What do you dislike about the product?
I didn't like the need to rename local user accounts in order to get the JumpCloud directory to sync with the user on the device, but JumpCloud fixed that by adding a local username field in the directory, which makes renaming the local user unnecessary... so now I can't think of anything I dislike. :D
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We have GSuite for our email. JumpCloud seamlessly syncs our GSuite directory with the JumpCloud directory making User management a breeze. We are able to use the SSO with many of our apps including Salesforce, Slack, Zoom, GitHub, and more! User management is amazing. Disabling a user account not only removes access to all of that, but the device as well. Remote wiping, running commands for remote installations and configuration changes, and so many more MDM features has made this product amazing. We completed the integration with AppleDEP and are very close to a zero touch configuration.
JumpCloud has great support for current and future features
What do you like best about the product?
They have great support and ability to bring my current needs and visions to production. Over the years they have made continual quality of life improvements to their product
What do you dislike about the product?
Since they are still relatively new as a directory provider service some of the required features are not fully available. However they are really great at mapping out future improvements and features to their product
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Directory service, device management, SSO, device trust. JumpCloud is quickly becoming our one product we trust to provide all the above requirements of our business
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Check if JumpCloud offers the features you are seeking for and if they do they would be a great candidate to provide the solutions your company requires
Quick setup and low price mdm solution
What do you like best about the product?
Setup was quick and relatively painless.
What do you dislike about the product?
Unable to push software to Mac systems..
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Control over Macs, pushing password and encryption policies for compliance.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Use the trial period and verify this works for your environment and setup.
Cloud authentication solution for a mobile workforce
What do you like best about the product?
The most important feature to us is the ability to move directory services to the cloud, supporting both Macs and PCs within our environment.
What do you dislike about the product?
We've run into some challenges with migrating some existing MDM-managed machines over to JumpCloud; however, once enrolled, the service has worked well so far.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The pandemic exposed some gaps in our technology strategy for partial or fully remote employees. JumpCloud helps us manage devices independently of whether they are physically in-office or remote.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
So far, JumpCloud has worked well for our company. The initial hurdle of enrolling existing machines with user accounts required some effort and troubleshooting; however, once enrolled, JumpCloud appears to be a good solution for cloud directory services and MDM management of Mac devices.
Pretty Good, but limited on Mac
What do you like best about the product?
I enjoy the apple MDM system the best on Jumpcloud.
What do you dislike about the product?
I dislike that I can not deploy apple apps to remote systems, though that is not JC issue.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are using JC to issue login's to remote computers and we realized that we can disable/wipe computers remotely as well.
Excellent Active Directory replacement and constantly improving
What do you like best about the product?
Ease of use, powerful, and feature-rich. Makes user and device management a breeze.
What do you dislike about the product?
Occasional quirks, but overall no issues. It's a solid application.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We didn't have a directory solution at all when I stepped into manage IT for my org. Given we had no on-premise hardware anyway, it made no sense to set up AD. Looking for an alternative led to JumpCloud (in its early days). I've been using it for about 3 years and it keeps improving. It gives me an easy way to manage users and devices, apply policies, manage software, and generally centralize IT operations. The SSO functionality has been huge for our user base as well, as it's made it easy for them to not have to manage a bunch of different passwords. Benefits: centralized management and control, ease of use, and a way to manage a growing user base.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
If you need an AD alternative, this is probably the best one on the market. It's gone from a fairly basic product to one that has a lot of features and depth to it. It can easily compete with AD and is far easier to use and manage.
