Best software to manage projects with individual + team tasks.

  • April 13, 2017
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I love that the platform feels social. The ability to like, comment, and follow tasks is very intuitive and makes working together as a team using this software feel personal.
What do you dislike about the product?
As the admin, I oversee all the projects. I wish there was a better dashboard in terms of at-a-glance stats to see the progress of the projects. Maybe something visual showing me the % of the project that has been completed and where we are on a timeline in terms of deadlines.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We use this to manage basically all of our projects and tasks, both as individuals and a team. It's so much better than sending emails back and forth and trying to keep up with long email chains.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
So great! No risks in trying it out since its free.

Asana, and the choices we make

  • April 13, 2017
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I really enjoy the clean UI of the platform and the messaging feature within the tasks.
What do you dislike about the product?
We've had a tough time with the vertical layout of Asana, and ever since they switched to boards it has been great for new projects, but transferring our large projects to that form would take too much time. We also have lost subtasks of stories. I have written a few and my team has not been able to see them. We recently realized that we have to attribute that task/story to the main one for it to show up in the list. This should be obvious. I also wish there was more integrations or a way to connect our financials.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We build and design software applications large and small.

Quality task management software

  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I like the ease of use for new team members, so the UI is a big win.
What do you dislike about the product?
It's not as robust as a JIRA system, but better than Trello.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Organizing new ideas and team input across our Client Success department. It's a great tool for showing progress along our workflows, but not alot of customization beyond that.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
It's a better tool than Trello but not quite as robust as JIRA.

Excellent Task Management Software -- If Used Diligently

  • April 13, 2017
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Task-oriented, ability to track and record
What do you dislike about the product?
Still need adherence to the tool (like any tool) and best practices/organization to keep consistent
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Organization, accountability. Great tool to break down tasks and keep project managers and their teams accountable.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Asana is a great task management software -- but it requires user adherence to best practices and may also require a project manager who can follow-up and ensure accountability. This is particularly true when users are new to Asana and companies are utilizing the basic (free -- not premium) version of Asana. Would recommend fully utilizing the Asana website, tutorials, and videos and implementing best practices company-wide to get the most out of the Asana.

It was difficult to train up my team to use. I felt it was intuitive though.

What do you like best about the product?
I loved that it had the ability to track events and notes related to events. I liked that it had everything all in one manageable place, but wish that it could have been synced up to my Microsoft Outlook and various other platforms such as Microsoft Word - would have made it much easier for me.
What do you dislike about the product?
How difficult it was to convince my team that it was worthwhile integrating into workflow. Many of the people I work with are older, so they refused to attempt to integrate into their existing workflow. I wish that there was a training video or some easy way of communicating the value and how to integrate for my team members that were hesitant to use.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Working in a highly-matrixed organization with project-based work groups. Many of our team members are on other projects that makes it difficult to keep track of them and our different competing priorities. The benefits realized were efficiencies.

Great for small teams -- almost.

What do you like best about the product?
Asana is pretty. It's sleek, easy to use, and easy to integrate. I introduced my team to it when we transitioned from an antiquated project management system, and we adapted fairly quickly.
What do you dislike about the product?
I really dislike the random quirks within Asana, like the fact that the team calendar view disappears when you reach 100 projects. My marketing team is very small, and we still reached 100 projects in a little more than 6 months. When I contacted Asana help, the only solution they could provide was that I should create a dummy team and move my old and archived projects to that team.

Many of the most useful features are only available on the premium plan, which my nonprofit organization had not budgeted for this year.

The mobile app is just ok -- not being able to use the calendar view really limits the usability for me as a project manager keeping tracking of the whole team's tasks.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
My team is more focused on results and hitting deadlines, and is able to instantly see visual results when things are done. We've streamlined project management because of Asana. We also love the flying icons when checking tasks off!
Recommendations to others considering the product:
In my opinion, Asana will not work for large teams. The calendar function will become clunky and clogged, and tasks will get lost.. You'd need to segment out your teams for Asana to be functional.

I LOVE LISTS

What do you like best about the product?
I like that both I and my supervisor can use Asana to make collaborative and individual lists. It is very helpful for me personally to have a list of tasks for the week, month, term and ASANA makes it super simple for me to update, edit, and complete tasks.

I also like that you can make edits on the mobile app quickly and seamlessly. It is also great that you can link it directly to your email - for us it makes it easy to share and add other co-workers to projects.
What do you dislike about the product?
I really like Asana and honestly have no dislikes. It is very well suited for my current needs.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Tasks lists being clear. It is beneficial to place deadlines and reminders on tasks to be completed. Also, just the simple organizing of tasks under specific projects and allowing for their to be multiple things going on at once without them getting confused.

It is also helpful if multiple co-workers are trying to tackle the same project, so you can assign tasks & update notes and questions right on Asana to see where everyone's progress is.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
You should use Asana daily! It is super user-friendly and so easy to plan out projects and tasks both for the daily and monthly goals. As someone who has always liked lists, Asana is a must!

Organize your workload

What do you like best about the product?
Asana allows you to track and manage multiple projects with different stakeholders. You or others can email tasks/requests to your Asana account and have it directed to a specific project. While you cannot bulk-add tasks, you can tag and add metadata to them in bulk, which is great. The calendar view can be color-coded based on projects and tags, so you can assign priorities or visual cues to what you're doing in a day.
What do you dislike about the product?
You cannot add tasks in bulk. Project reporting/dashboards are not very comprehensive, and you cannot drill down. What they term as "projects" -- I prefer to use them as departments and tasks within those departments then become projects, but you cannot drill down the reporting to the task-level.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Juggling multiple projects with conflicting priorities and different stakeholders. Asana lets you organize these projects with user-friendly interface. Email options allow you to create tasks from anywhere.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Asana has flexible interface that fit different personalities. I prefer to use the calendar view to organize deadlines, but it also has a list view for people who prefer that kind of display.

Good Project Management Tool

  • April 11, 2017
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Asana is fairly easy to use. It is great that Asana also sends out e-mail reminders to team members when they have a deadline.
What do you dislike about the product?
There is a lot of work on the front end, putting in all the information and due dates and attaching team members. When my team was using it for marketing, it seemed quite cumbersome for our administrative task. Unfortunately, when a computer program sent reminders out, it became like white noise versus a person sending reminders out.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Keeping everyone accountable is a huge deal especially in our promotional advertising. This helped eliminate our administrative staff sending out constant reminders for portions of projects due, because once everything was input, reminders were automatically sent out.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
It is a good tool if your administrative staff gets on board with it. Your team truly has to be invested in it as a whole, not just part of them.
