Asana is Great for Collaborations & Project Organization

  • September 17, 2017
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Asana is one of the best collaboration and project organization tools I've ever used. It's easy to share and contribute to projects and track progress over time. You can also keep track of multiple projects with different groups of collaborators, and I've even used this interface to keep track of a running personal to-do list. You can also set and manage deadlines. Overall, it's very flexible and intuitive.
What do you dislike about the product?
Most complains regarding Asana are in regard to its complexity; some find it less intuitive than others. The only real way to find which category you will fall into is to try it out yourself. There is a little bit of a learning curve, but I've used it now in several different contexts and have never found it to be so complicated that I couldn't figure out how to complete a desired action.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Research project management is the main task delegated to Asana from an institutional perspective. Personally, I have found it useful for creating to-do lists, setting deadlines for individual projects, and tracking deadlines. It's a powerful tool if you're willing to follow the goals you have set! And it's oh-so-satisfying to use the charts on the website to track your progress.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
If you're looking for a good project management tool, Asana can serve you well if you bother to learn about all of its features. There are options for delegating tasks, tracking projects, setting due dates, and chatting with collaborators - it's really powerful. There is a bit of a learning curve, but it's not too bad if you're looking for a way to manage complex projects; I'd say it's worth the investment.

Organize Your Life

  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
It is quite easy to create tasks and projects within Asana. The interface is very clean and user-friendly.
What do you dislike about the product?
For growing organizations the structure can get unwieldy a bit quickly if you are not thoughtful in your layout.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Keeping track of to-do's and who is responsible for the various items.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Keep it simple - there are many options within Asana, so don't complicate things by adding too many projects/tasks/etc.

I like that you can create digital task sheets and set deadlines for them
What do you dislike about the product?

    Computer Software

Flexible Software, but not robust

  • September 15, 2017
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I like that I can customize many aspects of Asana. It's straightforward and there's not a steep learning curve for new users.
What do you dislike about the product?
Asana is not very robust. It's a basic kanban board. My company has an in-house solution for kanban boards. While Asana is more flexible than our solution, but it's just not a deep software.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I tried using Asana for project management. It allowed us to clearly track task owners, due dates, progress, and updates.

Copyrights and Project Manager at Music Label and Publishing company

What do you like best about the product?
I like how clean it looks, very user friendly. It has a lot of features and links to other apps (i.e. Slack). You can set due dates for tasks and communicate with other team members regarding a specific task.
What do you dislike about the product?
I'm still trying to get used to the different viewing templates it has. Also I'm not utilizing the "Dashboard" feature as it seems a little confusing, and time consuming to figure out. I'm sure it's great though.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Its great to know who is in charge of what, regarding a specific project. You know that things won't slip through the cracks when someone has been assigned to tasks. There can be multiple people following up and commenting - SO much easier than 50 different email threads in your mailbox.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
I've used Basecamp with another company, and I prefer Asana! It's much easier to use.

    Individual & Family Services

Great for keeping teams on task and organized

What do you like best about the product?
Tasks are easy to keep track of and a list can be duplicated for multiple projects. Email reminders are created automatically.
What do you dislike about the product?
The dashboard, perhaps a more modern look or an easier way to scroll through projects.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Keeping tasks and assignments in order. The benefits are people are able to communicate much better and there are less things falling through the cracks.

Deceptive advertising

  • September 15, 2017
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
great UX/UI - great design, clear to read, good use of white space.
What do you dislike about the product?
Deceptive advertising. Essentially useless as free version. Hidden minimum of 5 users, must purchase in groups of 5. Customer service tried to convince me that paying for users who don't exist was a *GOOD* thing.

They advertise a per-user price, but they don't sell a per-user product. Which makes the entire price a lie. they advertise $9.99/user/month. BUT!! if you have 2 users, and you need collaboration, and custom fields and saved searches (which you do, because otherwise there's no "all tasks" view, so there's no way to get an overview of what you need to do that day), then the price is a LIE.

Since the minimum is 5 users ($50/month, paid annually), the real price is $25/user/month, because they force you to waste money.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
No benefits realized, I didn't sign up after I realized they were a deception-based company.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Be aware that their price is deceptive. Since you're forced to buy in multiples of 5, the advertised price will almost never be accurate (unless you have the correct number of employees in your company so it works out).

Good for some, but not for everyone

  • September 14, 2017

What do you like best about the product?
Asana works really well as a small project management tool. I like that tasks and calendars are easily integrated and that conversations, notes and documents are easily stored and shared between team members.
What do you dislike about the product?
I dislike the way the software lists the projects as it feels a bit clunky and cluttered when populated with multiple projects. I also wish that sub-tasks were indicated at the highest level because my team members often overlook them unless each task is manually assigned, which can be tedious.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are a small nonprofit film production company using asana to track our progress toward goals and activities as realized from our strategic plan.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Consider the format you will use with Asana and think strategically about how to design your initial setup to control for bulkiness and tedious entries.

    Education Management

Great For Teams with Lots of Projects

  • September 14, 2017
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I love that you can organize your projects and assign due dates in an organized fashion.
What do you dislike about the product?
It's frustrating that you can't assign a project to two people. That being said, it's forced us to really think about who is the project lead and who is supporting.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are solving the issue of hitting deadlines. This helps keep our managers organized and make sure we know exactly what is due and when!
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Make sure that your projects only have one leader. Difficult for collaborative tasks!
