Project Management -Light

  • August 10, 2017
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I love how light and easy Asana is to for non PM's on our teams to use. We have other PM software we use for more extensive PM work, that entails extensive collaboration and resource tracking but Asana fills the gap between Slack and those platforms. Its a light, easy to use platform to gather early stage info for projects that will soon live in other PM tools.
What do you dislike about the product?
Its hard to say what I don't like given we're not trying to 'replace' our other platforms, so I don't want to fault it for something it's not trying to be for 'my' teams. In general, better templates -for those PM newbies, and clearer definitions for due dates, on sub task. Permissions control could be nice for lighter teams.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Platform to fill the gap between Slack and our robust PM platform, as mentioned above things would lost in the cracks between on the fly conversations in Slack about possible project XYZ, because certain (non PM's) wouldn't want to create a project on our main platform while gather requirements,.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Don't expect Asana to replace a robust PM platform, but for light 'Task' style PM its the best in it's class, hands down.

Good tool but a little confusing

What do you like best about the product?
The general layout and ability to drag items into different locations on the screen is very nice. The ability to assign tasks, projects and how all the information, emails, documents, etc is associated with the item is great. Email alerts are handy as usual and it has a nice look and feel
What do you dislike about the product?
The related tasks and projects can cause a bit of sprawl and become challenging to manage. If I am a member of a task, and not the one it is assigned to, I get a lot of unwanted messages. Would be nice to be able to turn that down or off.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Our team has a very fluid schedule and this helps us keep up to date on assignments, who is going where and update the status on projects as they progress through the different departments. Asana is a pretty good way to keep our small corner of the business organized and all of us on the same page. We are able to keep track of locations and progress from a single dashboard
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Asana is a good team management tool . It has nice add-ins for Outlook, Apple, and Google. Well worth the look

Good tool to track you project's tasks

  • August 10, 2017
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Asana is a good tool to track your project tasks. It allows to add and assign tasks to team members easily. It is easy to work with and it allows the team collaboration (shared calendars and conversations menus allows quick/easy interactions between all team members).
What do you dislike about the product?
It should improve permissions definitions. It would be very useful to restrict the project details edition. In this way, the project manager could define and allocate project tasks and this could be available for all organization. Add roadmap directly to Asana instead of using Instagantt.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I am managing my project using this tool. Roadmap creation and tracking, files uploading and chat are very useful in our daily work.
It is a great tool for teams located in different countries.

Beautiful design and integration

  • August 10, 2017
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Asana connects with so many other platforms, and I'm able to integrate my boards and lists with my teams' calendar. The design is beautiful and appealing, and I like it's functionality.
What do you dislike about the product?
Once you set up a project as a "board" or a "list", you can't rearrange it to the other setup. There have been several projects that I've realized would operate better with the other functionality, but I have to make a new project instead.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I use it for project management, project flow, and reminding team members of their task assignments for each project.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
It's a great product with easy integration and a beautiful design. Make sure to identify from the beginning of a project whether your flow should be a board or list or you'll have to start over.

Asana's Versatility and Structure Keeps Us Organized

  • August 10, 2017
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Admittedly, Asana was not my first choice in task management, but the recent updates and iterations to the platform have really helped myself and my team streamline our projects. It helps to see what kind of tasks we have outstanding and definitely gives us a boost in dopamine when we check off finished tasks.
What do you dislike about the product?
The interface, while vastly improved from a few years ago, is still not as highly intuitive for some people. I can see how other people would become disgruntled using Asana.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Keeping our business tasks in one place -- it has helped us keep our projects organized.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Watch their tutorial videos and ask other more avid Asana users how they use their Asana platform.

Confusing

  • August 10, 2017
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
There are a ton of features, and it's got the ability to help you coordinate a lot of tasks.
What do you dislike about the product?
Not well organized for supervisors. For management to find the completed tasks and just see where projects were was harder than it should have been.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The team was spread out and worked on projects with multiple deadlines. While Asana seemed great, it took too much time to figure out if people had completed tasks on deadline and where those tasks could be seen easily by management.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Research how easily it is for management to supervise, not just for coworkers to collaborate.

What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I like how it shows me due dates and lets me assign thing to my team
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Absolutely I recommend it all the time

    Higher Education

Simple, great for complex projects

  • August 08, 2017
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I like that it's a simple concept and easy to use. It's essentially a way better version of a simple task list. It's simple interface of just typing in the task to do, setting a due date, and a person responsible makes me more likely to use it every day. There are advanced features that make this more powerful when used by all.
What do you dislike about the product?
The notification settings are a little difficult to customize. When you first get your account, it can feel like an "all or nothing" situation with the notifications. You either get notified constantly or not at all. It is time-consuming to customize your notification for each project. Our team has 30+ projects. It's unreasonable to think that top-level people on the teams will do this, which ultimately means less buy-in across the team.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We're running large-scale higher education events by planning in Asana. We are able to be very transparent about everyone's task list and how they are keeping up-to-date on responsibilities. Also, we are able to eliminate a lot of team emails. We no longer need to email each other to ask someone to do something. We just put it in Asana.
