Technical Operations Manager
What do you like best about the product?
It is so easy to configure and use, though it can be daunting if you get too deep, too quickly. But the documentation and support will always come to your rescue quickly.
What do you dislike about the product?
Looking forward to more improvements in Dashboarding and Reporting. Would really like to see a report or feature around asset management.
Also, part of the problem such a full-featured product is that the initial tuning required is extensive to get a handle on.

What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are an MSP. We use LogicMonitor to alert us to issues in customer environments before the customer is aware of them. We have integrated LM into our case management system, allowing us to prioritize our responses and get LM under our Response SLA umbrella. We have begun using it for business intelligence gathering, allowing one client to identify two underperforming locations with rock-solid evidence. They are now slated for closure, which will improve the client's P&L.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Look for an MSP that already has it set up, and contract with them. While it's easy to set up, it takes time. There are so many data points per device that take time to master. An MSP has it already mastered, and can further simplify your implementation process. They know what questions to ask, can share war stories and lessons learned, and bring best practices to your environment much more quickly.

What do you dislike about the product?
Need some more option for Alert propagation and some missing datasources like ElasticSearch
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Solved customised device specific threshold for Alert notification.
Reduced user management by using Roles.
Customised datasource creation using different scripting language added flexibility to create datasource on our own.

Recommendations to others considering the product:
SAS solution with huge advantage of monitoring all the latest application.
An essential partner
What do you like best about the product?
LogicMonitor is an essential part of our data center management.
What do you dislike about the product?
Honestly we're very happy with the product.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Monitoring disk performance in a data center.
Great monitoring platform
What do you like best about the product?
The single best feature is the agentless architecture. It allows us to have a small footprint on our clients and makes deployment very quick. Our on-boarding times dropped substantially once we adopted logic monitor.
As our deployments matured the biggest win has been adaptability. The extensible nature of LM has allowed us to readjust as our needs and products evolve.

What do you dislike about the product?
Some technical choices I don't agree with. For example, using groovy as the default extension language steepens the learning curve since it's not a widely used language. I would of preferred python or ruby. But they do offer alternatives to groovy where possible so it's hasn't really been a blocker for us.
This year they've added tons of new features and there has been some pain in those areas (reporting comes to mind) but nothing that would affect core functionality.

What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Our business depends on proactively identifying problems and reacting to them before they become an outage. LM has delivered on that.
It has also improved customer confidence in our service. Letting customers into the monitoring platform and allowing them to see what we see has straightened the partnership with our clients. Because of the extensible nature and shared vision with our customers we can take their input and recommendations and integrate it into our monitoring package. About half of our custom monitoring has been recommended or requested by clients.
A natural consequence of long term performance data is being able to provide a longer term view of the health of our environment and demonstrate how our engagement has contributed to stability and performance.

The learning curve might be a little steep stick with it it's worth it.
Effective + Flexible + Reliable = Valuable
What do you like best about the product?
LogicMonitor works. Period. We've never been able to achieve this breadth of monitoring operations with so little administrative overhead.
What do you dislike about the product?
There is very little to dislike. If I had to pick something, it would be that I wish that more of the breadth of its feature-sets were available at lower price points.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We have used LogicMonitor very successfully to unite compute, storage, networking, and cloud monitoring. This consistency has had a big positive impact on the efficiency of the respective teams.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
There is no such thing as a free lunch. LogicMonitor does not empower you to ignore or break the laws of physics, but it will be very effective if
1) Invest in building the specifics of your use-case
2) Accurately assign priority values to functionality
3) Invest in your deployment plan

Good product but requires elbow grease to get the most out of it
What do you like best about the product?
It's simple to add devices and setup basic monitoring. Other aspects such as ESXi, Nimble Array, and other device monitoring is simple to setup as well. It only requires an additional login to pull stats from vCenter, Nimble, etc.
WMI setup and Windows/Linux process monitoring is simple to setup once the basic monitoring is configured first.
Dashboards and graphs are incredibly useful once created.

What do you dislike about the product?
There are a couple of issues to be aware of:
- Limited Datastore support. Creating new data sources requires someone on your staff to be well versed in Logicmonitor graph and datasource creation as well as understanding SNMP, WMI, OIDs, etc. Asking Logicmonitor Support to create data sources is... a struggle at best. The queue to create datasources is anywhere from 6-18 months backed up unless you pay for Professional Services to have them even look and scope your request out.
- Alert Chains and Escalation rules are very powerful features but can quickly get out of hand as you create more and more chains and rules.
- The Devices UI is a love it or hate it situation. Several design choices were made to increase browser performance but sacrifices the ability to quickly traverse an all encompassing device tree.
- No Application Performance Monitoring (APM) comparable to New Relic or other providers. There is no agent that can be installed for deeper statistics.
- If you want to do more than basic monitoring and get the most out of the platform, you really need to devote personnel to understanding the backend, creating data sources, creating graphs, and so on.

What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We needed to avoid time consuming tasks such as creating new device type of alerts, being able to create custom runbook text for NOC and for customers, as well as not having to maintain or manage the capacity of our monitor clusters & hardware.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
If you're using mainstream enterprise gear (Cisco, Juniper, Dell, Nimble, APC, and so on) in your environment, Logicmonitor should detect all data sources without an issue. If you have brands and manufacturers that are not as prevalent in the IT industry, I strongly recommend contacting Logicmonitor and inquire if data sources exist for your devices before risking a lengthy data source request.
If you plan to take advantage of the more advanced features, I strongly recommend having at least two staff members certified and well versed in the back end configuration settings for the platform.

The only Cloud-based Monitoring System in the market
What do you like best about the product?
Cloud-based.
Easy to use User-Interface
Customized notification and alert - easy configuration and management
Easy deployment - especially for our situation where we have lots of customers, therefore lots of networks that are not connected together.
ConfigManager is really good,
Support team is super knowledgeable and easy to work with

What do you dislike about the product?
Not much, actually close to none.
Maintenance has minimal impact... so pretty much none

What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are MSP. We have lots of customers on-premise networks that require monitoring. Cloud-based monitoring allow us to easily deploy agent for customers on ad-hoc base
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Try it... no regret for sure.
Logicmonitor has been a night and day comparison from our old monitoring system. We love it.
What do you like best about the product?
Ability to visualize everything that is being monitored on a server with ease.
Ability to quickly alert when a device stops sending critical datapoints.
The frequency of upgrades and new features implemented into the platform is very encouraging.

What do you dislike about the product?
There is a lack of standard monitors that should be included or built without the need for professional services. Applications such as Sharepoint and SQL always on which are becoming standard should have focus.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are getting quality monitoring of all our client environments with little to no false positives. This cuts down on the amount of cases our support staff has to action.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
The company is very focused on improving the platform day in and day out. This is a great company to align your business with for the foreseeable future.
Logic Monitor Review
What do you like best about the product?
The thing I like the best while using LogicMonitor is the ease of use of the software. Working for a Managed Service Provider we have extensively tested multiple network monitoring platforms. Very few monitoring platforms out there offer all the features that LogicMonitor offers. Migrating away from our previous monitoring platform to LogicMonitor was a very simple process.
What do you dislike about the product?
It's hard to think of something I don't like about this software. As an administrator for this software and utilizing it on a daily basis this program is just very powerful and reliable. LM Developers are constantly finding new and creative ways to assist users in monitoring. LM Support is very helpful in answering questions we have. LM Documentation is helpful in determining how to configure things or answering general questions. Most monitoring platforms offer little to no documentation.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Working for a Managed Service Provider we deal with many I.T. infrastructures; to include, Network, Voice, Virtualization, Storage, and Servers. With the use of LogicMonitor we have greatly identified key issues within our clients environments, that were not being reported from other monitoring platforms we tested.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
I think any company not satisfied with their current monitoring platform should greatly consider looking into Logic Monitor. They should do their research and ensure Logic Monitor is able to meet their requirements for network monitoring. If they know of anyone else utilizing the program then they could also ask for their advice. The platform itself is very customizable, and as mentioned very easy to use.
Implementation of Logicmonitor was very easy and quick!
What do you like best about the product?
Very intuitive interface. Requires very little knowledge of how the application functions unlike other monitoring applications I have used in the past like zabbix, cacti, ganglia and nagios.
What do you dislike about the product?
Matching devices to alert rules can be a little challenging. Logicmonitor tries to guess which device(s) you want to the rule to apply to by what you start typing. What I found out is that it doesn't always guess correctly and I have to manually verify it by doing a test alert.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Not managing a monitoring infrastructure in terms of up time, updates, upgrades, security, etc. has been a nice weight lifted from my shoulders. Reducing costs on not managing a infrastructure has also freed up some money to invest in other technologies and initiatives.
