King Hamad University Hospital (KHUH) and Bahrain Oncology Center is a 600-bed-hospital in Bahrain. Over the years, KHUH faced constraints with exponential growth of their on-premise storage needs, particularly with the medical images stored by their picture archiving and communication system (PACS). KHUH turned to AWS to develop a cost- and time-effective long-term storage solution, without making changes to their existing PACS, that reduced storage costs by 40%.

The healthcare technology (HealthTech) startup contextflow uses AWS to power its clinical decision support system that can help radiologists diagnose patients faster and with more accuracy. The software can search, retrieve, and compare historical diagnostic data to help guide radiologists in writing reports. It is currently being utilized to analyze lung computed tomography (CT) scans for interstitial lung diseases (ILD), chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and lung cancer screenings.

Data lakes can help hospitals and healthcare organizations turn data into insights and maintain business continuity, while preserving patient privacy. This blog post is part of a larger series about getting started with setting up a healthcare data lake. In this blog post, I detail how the solution has evolved at a foundational level over the series to include microservices. I describe the design decisions I’ve made and the additional features used. On Tuesday, May 24, Max Peterson, vice president of worldwide public sector at AWS, took the keynote stage at AWS Summit Washington, DC to share announcements, news, and stories of how our public sector customers are leveraging the cloud to deliver mission-critical outcomes. Three customer speakers joined him to share how they’re using AWS to get the agility, resilience, and security needed to keep pushing boundaries and driving impact.

It was a wonderful opportunity to speak directly to AWS Partners about our journey together, share some exciting announcements, and have a conversation with other AWS leaders. That’s why we have chosen to focus the next AWS Healthcare Accelerator on health equity. Launching today, this accelerator builds on our larger focus on this issue that includes a $40M commitment we made last September to support customers developing solutions to reduce health inequities. The AWS Healthcare Accelerator, delivered in collaboration with KidsX, aims to empower all startups that focus on improving health equity.

The Uniformed Services University Health System (USUHS) is the nation’s federal health professions academy, offering a curriculum and educational experience that emphasizes military healthcare, leadership, readiness, and public health. Each year, USUHS holds a training exercise called Operation Gunpowder to help prepare third-year medical students for varying field-care challenges they may encounter during their service. Over the course of the eight weeks prior to the training exercise, AWS collaborated with Deloitte to deliver ancillary system and operational medicine telemedicine best practice training to the participating students. “This is the first time telemed has truly delivered,” reported attending experts in special operations medicine.

Public sector organizations can benefit from containers as they can enable building mission critical applications with better fault tolerance and agility, migrating applications across different platforms and in modernizing legacy applications. To help partners build containerized applications on behalf of public sector organizations, AWS is launching the AWS Containers Rapid Adoption Assistance (CRAA) initiative.

Healthier Lancashire and South Cumbria Integrated Care System (ICS) looks after the health and social care needs of a population of 1.8 million citizens across the North West of the UK. One of the main goals of the ICS is to work collaboratively with all partners involved in care delivery for their geography. To this end, the ICS recognized that using cloud technologies allows for better data sharing to improve patient outcomes.
