AWS Training and Certification Blog
AWS Training now available to FutureLearn’s diverse learner community
The world is pioneering new technology at a rapid pace, making it more important than ever for diverse perspectives and experiences to influence innovation. However, women have represented only 25% of employees in computing and mathematical occupations since 2007, according to National Center for Women & Information Technology’s 2021 scorecard.
At Amazon Web Services (AWS), we’re proactively working to change the gender disparity in technology by empowering women to pursue careers in tech and creating an inclusive culture. As we strive to influence more technical career opportunities for women, we recognize access to training and certification plays an important role. As we focus on reaching a broader, more diverse audience of learners, we recognize the power of expanding our network through AWS Training Partners.
Making training accessible to a diverse community of cloud talent
Our newest AWS Training Partner, FutureLearn, directly aligns with our mission to train and empower women in tech by educating a diverse, global community of learners, more than 49% of whom identify as female. Founded in 2012, FutureLearn is a digital training provider elevating millions of women by offering a robust portfolio of training, now including official, AWS-authored courses. Building foundational cloud knowledge
AWS now offers two foundational courses to FutureLearn learners to take their first step toward building cloud knowledge – no prior experience necessary. For cloud-curious individuals in technical roles who seek an overall understanding of the cloud, AWS Cloud Technical Essentials is for you. Not in a technical role? Any learner, regardless of role, is welcome to develop the fundamental knowledge and skills necessary to effectively demonstrate an overall, introductory understanding of the AWS Cloud in AWS Cloud Practitioner Essentials: Jumpstart your journey within the AWS Cloud.
According to Maureen Lonergan, vice president of AWS Training and Certification, “As cloud technologies continue to help organizations transform their businesses at a rapid pace, employees with the necessary cloud skills are in high demand. The AWS Training Partner Program is designed for organizations like FutureLearn that meet or exceed rigorous criteria for delivering or offering high-quality technical training experiences. As part of the program, FutureLearn delivers AWS Training to enable IT professionals and businesses to leverage the power of the AWS Cloud.”
Belonging to a community of learners
FutureLearn hosts engaging, social learning experiences where participants are free to interact and network with each other. These Interactions enable learners to share stories, connect with others, and discuss cloud concepts, AWS services, networking, security, optimization, and more. The experiential nature of the social learning allows students to draw inspiration from their peers and ultimately, better retain the knowledge they’ve gained.
