Data governance policies for Asia Pacific cloud adoption in healthcare
Amazon Web Services (AWS) recently collaborated with global consulting firm Alvarez & Marsal to produce a whitepaper, “Cloud data governance and best practices for public healthcare cloud adoption in Asia Pacific.” This paper aims to give recommendations based on best practice examples for health policymakers to provide clear direction to healthcare institutions for governance of healthcare data in the cloud. Read this blog post for a summary of the key takeaways.
Japan’s Digital Agency accelerates government cloud migration with AWS generative AI–powered architecture reviews
In September 2021, Japan took a leap with the establishment of its Digital Agency and the creation of the government cloud. With the goal to build a society in which no one is left behind by improving convenience, health, and happiness through digital technology, Japan’s Digital Agency represents the nation’s bold commitment to digital innovation across government and society. In June 2024, two cloud engineers from the Digital Agency, Kazuma Takeda and Shinichi Nishihata, shared their process and learnings at the Amazon Web Services (AWS) Summit Japan, the largest AWS learning event in the country. For those who were unable to attend or watch virtually, this post summarizes their presentation.
Harnessing the power of generative AI in the classroom and beyond
Can generative artificial intelligence (AI) help in addressing complex societal issues, such as the equality of access to education? Despite efforts from educators and policymakers, students with additional needs and those who come from socio-economically deprived backgrounds continue to consistently perform worse than other groups. Student performance gaps stubbornly refuse to close while the demands placed on teaching professionals by time-consuming administrative tasks and the challenges associated with lesson preparations continue to increase. Generative AI presents educators with an opportunity to change things.
Singapore’s EVe harnesses the power of data with help from NTT DATA, AWS
In alignment with Singapore’s ambitious sustainability objectives, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) of Singapore is intensifying its efforts to spur the adoption of electric vehicles. This contributes to the nation’s goal of achieving 100 percent cleaner energy vehicles by 2040, and the effort leverages Amazon Web Services (AWS). LTA has set up EV-Electric Charging Pte Ltd (EVe) to manage the deployment of up to 12,000 electric vehicle (EV) charging points distributed across 2,000 Housing Development Board (HDB) carparks.
Fine-tuning an LLM using QLoRA in AWS GovCloud (US)
Government agencies are increasingly using large language models (LLMs) powered by generative artificial intelligence (AI) to extract valuable insights from their data in the Amazon Web Services (AWS) GovCloud (US) Regions. In this guide, we walk you through the process of adapting LLMs to specific domains with parameter efficient fine-tuning techniques made accessible through Amazon SageMaker integrations with Hugging Face.
Singapore’s National Library Board aims to unlock country’s rich heritage with AR app built by AWS Partner NCS
The vision of Singapore’s National Library Board goes beyond making information accessible; the NLB is focused on bringing the richness of the nation’s cultural heritage right to the palm of your hand. As part of its LAB25 (Libraries and Archives Blueprint 2025) Singapore Storytellers initiative, the NLB seeks to nurture a stronger appreciation and understanding of the Singapore experience. To support this, Amazon Web Services (AWS) collaborated with Singapore-based NCS, a leading technology services firm, to create an interactive augmented reality (AR) web application prototype on the AWS Cloud.
Use Amazon SageMaker to perform data analytics in AWS GovCloud (US) Regions
Amazon SageMaker is a fully managed machine learning (ML) service that provides various capabilities, including Jupyter Notebook instances. While RStudio, a popular integrated development environment (IDE) for R, is available as a managed service in Amazon Web Services (AWS) commercial Regions, it’s currently not offered in AWS GovCloud (US) Regions. Read this post, however, to learn how you can use SageMaker notebook instances with the R kernel to perform data analytics tasks in AWS GovCloud (US) Regions.
Open government procurement drives innovation using the cloud
It should be simple to build digital platforms that offer people reliable, clear ways to access government services such as healthcare, business registration, and welfare payments. Cloud technology makes it possible for every service to be simple, reliable, scalable, adaptable, and secure. Public sector agencies need to be able to access the cloud, and they do so through public procurement processes. Procurement’s role in supporting modern, digital services for governments is the subject of a report from the Open Data Institute (ODI) and Open Contracting Partnership (OCP).
ICF helps FDA accelerate the drug labeling review process with AWS machine learning
Within the Food and Drug Administration’s Center for Drug Evaluation and Research, the Division of Medication Error Prevention and Analysis (DMEPA) plays a critical role. DMEPA reviews premarket and postmarket drug labeling to minimize the risk of medication errors. In partnership with DMEPA, Amazon Web Services (AWS) Partner ICF is developing a machine learning (ML) prototype known as the Computerized Labeling Assessment Tool (CLAT). The prototype employs innovative applications of optical character recognition (OCR) technology and the novel use of computer vision techniques that will alleviate bottlenecks in and enhance the efficiency of the drug labeling review process.
