Defense Logistics Agency migrates five applications to AWS GovCloud (US) ahead of schedule
The U.S. Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) successfully migrated five applications to AWS GovCloud (US) under the Procurement Integrated Enterprise Environment (PIEE) hosting support contract with help from Credence Management Solutions, LLC., an AWS Partner Network (APN) consulting partner in the AWS Public Sector Partner Program.
By migrating to AWS GovCloud (US) – Amazon’s cloud regions designed to host sensitive data, regulated workloads, and the most stringent U.S. government security and compliance requirements – DLA now has improved security, infrastructure stability, application performance, and efficiencies in infrastructure management via continuous monitoring and Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC).
Working with AWS Professional Services, Credence migrated all five applications in just 138 days – almost six weeks ahead of schedule – using CloudEndure Migration, an automated AWS solution that quickly lifts and shifts workloads to AWS through an agile approach, which allowed them to adhere to an aggressive schedule.
Credence is currently sustaining the FedMall, Clause Logic System (CLS), Procurement Product Model Library (PPML), EDA, and Procurement Acquisition Lead Time (PALT) applications, with zero impact to operational environments. In collaboration with AWS as well as DLA stakeholders, Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA), and five system integrators, Credence migrated the five applications, which had more than 70 external interfaces, more than 200 virtual machines, and more than 300 TB of data.
“The successful migration of mission-critical DLA applications to AWS GovCloud (US) delivered significant cost savings to the government, as well as increased efficiency for application management and improved customer experiences,” said Atul Mathur, the PIEE Program Manager.
“Our partnership with Credence in successfully migrating five DLA managed Department of Defense (DoD) applications ahead of schedule lays the foundation on which numerous other DoD mission-essential applications can be rapidly migrated to the AWS GovCloud (US) environment, increasing their performance using cloud-native tools that deliver innovative capabilities to the warfighter,“ said Dave Levy, VP of US Government, AWS.
This migration comes a year after DLA upgraded its training-delivery application, moving it from its on-premises data center into a commercial cloud environment.
