Now available: New Asia Pacific (Osaka) region and Graviton2 support for Amazon GameLift
Today, we’re excited to release an update to Amazon GameLift that increases coverage for developers and enhances seamless, low-latency gameplay experiences for players in Japan. GameLift, an AWS managed service for deploying, operating, and scaling dedicated servers for multiplayer games, enables you as a developer to create a 200+ player battle royale game with Large Match Support or automatically adapt server capacity with player traffic using Autoscaling. Today’s update adds Asia Pacific (Osaka) Region to GameLift and enables game developers to place servers in their multi-region fleets closer to players’ actual regional locations in Japan with Asia Pacific (Osaka) and Asia Pacific (Tokyo) regions.
GameLift is currently available in these 23 AWS Regions: US East (Ohio and N. Virginia), US West (N. California and Oregon), Africa (Cape Town), Asia Pacific (Hong Kong, Mumbai, Osaka, Seoul, Singapore, Sydney, and Tokyo), Canada (Central), Europe (Frankfurt, Ireland, London, Milan, Paris, and Stockholm), Middle East (Bahrain), South America (São Paulo), AWS China (Beijing) Region, operated by Sinnet, and AWS China (Ningxia) Region, operated by NWCD.
GameLift FleetIQ now supports next-generation AWS Graviton2 processors. You can now use Graviton2-hosted game servers, based on the Arm-based processor architecture, to achieve increased performance at a lower cost when compared to the equivalent Intel-based compute options. Customers can deploy AWS Graviton2 processor-powered instances in their existing or new GameServerGroups from the GameLift Console or Command Line Interface (CLI).
GameLift FleetIQ with Graviton2 powered instances include:
c6g, m6g, r6g instance families
Available in Asia Pacific (Mumbai), Asia Pacific (Seoul), Asia Pacific (Singapore), Asia Pacific (Sydney), Asia Pacific (Tokyo), Canada (Central), Europe (Frankfurt), Europe (Ireland), Europe (London), South America (Sao Paolo), US East (N. Virginia), US East (Ohio), and US West (N. California), US West (Oregon)
Getting started with GameLift
Over the past year we heard from customers wanted an option to use their existing tools without GameLift’s game server management layer. So, we enabled GameLift FleetIQ and GameLift FlexMatch to do just that, so stay tuned for more updates coming throughout the year. In the meantime, we would love to hear from you. Let us know what you think about this update and what features you would like to see in the future. Connect with the GameLift team on the forums or through the AWS Game Tech social media channels.
