Centralized security has simplified remote site protection and reduced staffing needs

  • December 02, 2025
  • Review from a verified AWS customer

What is our primary use case?

My main use case for Fortinet FortiGate is for VPN and its appliances and for securing all of our remote locations.

A specific example of how I use Fortinet FortiGate to secure my remote locations is that we set rules on each of our locations about what traffic can and cannot go in, so we can allow certain connections for our partners such as Frontiers.

What is most valuable?

The best features Fortinet FortiGate offers are the built-in security functions, which I think are very nice.

We find the built-in security functions most valuable in Fortinet FortiGate, particularly web filtering, as it is all hands-on. Web filtering is our standout feature, and I don't want to add anything else about the features.

Fortinet FortiGate has positively impacted my organization by centralizing the way to access all of our network firewalls.

What needs improvement?

I wish Fortinet FortiGate's UI updates would be done in a more simplified way to improve it.

I choose nine for my rating because I think there's always room for improvement, and I think some of the things in the UI need to be adjusted so they're a little bit more simplified and not overcomplicated.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Fortinet FortiGate for at least three and a half, maybe four years now.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

In my experience, Fortinet FortiGate is very stable, and it has been quite consistent during times of downtime.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Fortinet FortiGate's scalability has been keeping up well with my organization's growth or changes, as each location gets larger and we feel the need to put a Fortinet FortiGate in each one.

How are customer service and support?

We have had to reach out multiple times to Fortinet engineers for customer support, and it has been great every time; they always seem to get to the bottom of it within one to two calls.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We did use a different solution before Fortinet FortiGate, but it has been so long that I cannot remember who it was; it may have been Palo Alto.

What was our ROI?

I believe we have seen a return on investment in terms of fewer employees needed, but otherwise, it is outside of my scope.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

I was not directly involved in the pricing, setup cost, and licensing for Fortinet FortiGate.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

We did consider other options before choosing Fortinet FortiGate, but it was a straightforward decision, and I am not quite sure what the other options were.

What other advice do I have?

I do not have anything that is unique to us about how we use Fortinet FortiGate in our setup.

We do not utilize Fortinet FortiGate's data center solution, and we do not feel the need to consider AI and ML enhanced FortiGuard services within Fortinet FortiGate.

I would advise others looking into using Fortinet FortiGate to make sure that they get their configurations right from the start, as that means they have less of a need to get support involved. I would rate this product a nine out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Hybrid Cloud

If public cloud, private cloud, or hybrid cloud, which cloud provider do you use?

Secure connectivity has improved branch-to-cloud protection and supports future-ready defenses

  • December 01, 2025
  • Review provided by PeerSpot

What is our primary use case?

I have experience working with Cisco, Catalyst SD-WAN, Fortinet FortiGate, and Juniper technologies. We have a multi-range of vendors including Cisco, Juniper, VMware, and Palo Alto. We use Palo Alto firewall and Fortinet FortiGate firewall for wireless security and network security, including proxy and next-generation capabilities.

Most vendors are providing almost the same functionalities in terms of firewalls. Palo Alto, Fortinet, and Juniper are all offering similar capabilities, but they have a wide range of services or products such as SD-WAN and SASE. Currently, we are a big enterprise and one of our products is Fortinet FortiGate.

What is most valuable?

Fortinet FortiGate has reasonable pricing and is easy to operate. It is efficient and represents the future for security, including cloud security and branch-to-cloud security.

We have threat intelligence detection, response, and action capabilities. Fortinet FortiGate products are stable, and they offer a wide range of security capabilities.

What needs improvement?

We did not use Fortinet SASE, and I do not remember if our data center team utilizes it. Currently, I think Fortinet should enable more cloud, virtual, or unified solutions. One point against them is that their solution lacks a unified approach. Sometimes the licensing is not clear, and when you purchase a product, you find that you need certain licenses or additional products. There is not one comprehensive solution.

For how long have I used the solution?

Three years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Fortinet FortiGate is stable. We have been using it for three years and did not face any stability issues.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

We have been using Fortinet FortiGate for three years and did not face any scalability issues.

How are customer service and support?

I do not have good visibility about Fortinet FortiGate's tech support because it is similar to other vendors. There is tech support available, and if there is an operational issue, the operations team opens a ticket with tech support.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We work with local companies and local partners. Both the vendor and official channels work with local partners for implementation.

How was the initial setup?

I do not remember there being challenges or complexity in the deployment of Fortinet FortiGate.

What about the implementation team?

We work with local companies and local partners. Both the vendor and official channels coordinate with local partners.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Fortinet FortiGate's price is reasonable compared with other vendors.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

Fortinet FortiGate is in a good position. In Gartner, they are leaders, but they may come after Palo Alto and are better than Cisco in the firewall field.

What other advice do I have?

We are deploying micro-segmentation technology and methodology in our cloud and private cloud deployment. I can assess that Fortinet FortiGate is good overall. My review rating for this product is eight out of ten.

An affordable firewall for security and good network performance

  • September 02, 2025
  • Review provided by PeerSpot

What is our primary use case?

We are using Fortinet FortiGate for the SD-WAN solution between our branches. We also started using Fortinet's access points, wireless solution, and full fabric with switching. We are using many products from Fortinet.

We don't use Fortinet FortiGate for data center solutions; we just use Fortinet FortiGate for perimeter firewalls and wireless and switching.

How has it helped my organization?

The main benefits that Fortinet FortiGate provides is the security of the network.

What is most valuable?

Fortinet FortiGate has many functions, and it is one of the best next-generation firewalls with an affordable cost than other vendors.

Fortinet FortiGate is useful for network performance, and it helps to optimize the links between branches and the applications that are used from the data center to other branches.

The integration between SD-WAN and FortiGate is easy. It accommodates our needs.

What needs improvement?

They can add automation for monitoring and policy optimization on the firewall. I think using AI to do some optimization on the policies would be beneficial, such as providing alerts about policies that haven't been used for a long time or identifying overlapping policies.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been working with Fortinet FortiGate for at least six to seven years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

I would rate the stability of Fortinet FortiGate as eight out of ten.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

I would rate the scalability of Fortinet FortiGate as eight out of ten.

How are customer service and support?

I would rate technical support from Fortinet as seven out of ten. While there are no issues, there is improvement needed for fast response and clear response from Fortinet's technical support.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup for Fortinet FortiGate is very simple.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

Palo Alto is the main competitor in the market. Fortinet FortiGate provides a simple solution. It is less expensive than Palo Alto and meets our requirements.

We do the exercise from designing and planning with Fortinet FortiGate, and then we purchase through a partner.

What other advice do I have?

My overall rating for Fortinet FortiGate is eight out of ten.

Ensures network security with reliable policy management and smooth deployment

  • September 02, 2025
  • Review provided by PeerSpot

What is our primary use case?

Fortinet FortiGate is a perimeter firewall which we are using for protecting our network and for defining policies so that only restricted access is given from outside to serve this purpose.

What is most valuable?

Fortinet FortiGate serves as our perimeter firewall which we utilize for protecting our network and defining policies to ensure only restricted access is given from outside.

What needs improvement?

A disadvantage exists when we are collecting the logs, as it sometimes becomes very difficult to interpret the logs that are generated from the firewall. The main challenge is finding out which IP is generating what kind of traffic.

For how long have I used the solution?

We have been using Fortinet FortiGate for more than 10 years. We started with FGT 60, then moved on to 100, then 300, and currently we are using 501E.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

It went smoothly and we have found it very useful because we have a redundant internet lease line. It takes care of all our requirements.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

We have been informed by Fortinet FortiGate that it has already reached the end of service. It will be supported until next year, so we might procure a new solution. It cannot be scaled, so we will have to replace the box itself.

How are customer service and support?

We have been using Fortinet FortiGate for quite a long time. As mentioned, we have used the last four series, and we found the product to be very stable. We regularly update it when updates are available, and the support has been good so far.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We are not using any previous solutions.

How was the initial setup?

The system integrator performed the installation and it went smoothly. My team mentioned it is very easy to do the setup. Since it is software-based rather than hardware-based, and our people are very familiar with the software, the implementation proceeded smoothly.

What about the implementation team?

The system integrator performed the installation.

What was our ROI?

We have received a very good ROI. It has provided significant time savings of almost 20-25%.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The solution is affordable.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

My team has indicated that Fortinet FortiGate is more simple and secure compared to alternatives.

What other advice do I have?

I rate Fortinet FortiGate a nine out of ten.

What is most valuable?

For application filtration, I really appreciate many features of Fortinet FortiGate because it is more reliable, easy to use, and the reports are easy to read and understand. I have integrated Fortinet FortiGate with the database for reading the reports. I can recommend Fortinet FortiGate for enterprise-level because it has many features and solutions, though I would not recommend it for small companies or individual companies.

What needs improvement?

To improve Fortinet FortiGate, I think they need to improve the software and make updates more quickly, rather than taking a long time to update the software or firmware.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been working with Fortinet FortiGate for approximately four to five years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

I would rate the stability of Fortinet FortiGate a ten out of ten, with ten being the best.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

I would rate the scalability of Fortinet FortiGate a ten out of ten, as I think it is reliable and very dependable.

How are customer service and support?

I would rate the technical support from Fortinet between eight and nine; it is a very good vendor, but sometimes there is a delay in getting information from us or maybe a delay for us to contact them.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I am using Fortinet FortiGate and Sophos.

How was the initial setup?

In the beginning of my work with Fortinet FortiGate, the setup was difficult, but after many attempts, I became an expert on how to install and modify every command. For a regular user, I think it is very easy to understand and read the product documentation.

What about the implementation team?

I use Sophos for firewall and Fortinet FortiGate for data center.

What other advice do I have?

I really recommend Fortinet FortiGate. My overall rating for Fortinet FortiGate is 9 out of 10.

  • August 27, 2025
  • Review provided by PeerSpot

What is our primary use case?

I work in presales exclusively. I work in the public sector, focusing on presales of architecture. I usually work with enterprise businesses rather than SMB businesses.

What is most valuable?

Fortinet FortiGate is a simple solution, and the integration with other solutions in the Fortinet portfolio, such as the Security Fabric integration, is competitive. It is simple for deployment, design, and integration with other Fortinet solutions. The SD-WAN capabilities are simple because the license includes this function, making deployment straightforward for Fortinet FortiGate clients.

The impact of the SD-WAN on network performance includes cost efficiency and automation. For performance, the solution is focused on the user experience with optimal path selection. Unified SASE secures remote connections for many use cases. Fortinet FortiGate is stable in the data center environment and in its functionality. It is scalable. The price is competitive in the market, especially when integrated with other Fortinet solutions. It has a return on investment without the need for additional licenses for products such as FortiSwitches and FortiAP.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have 12 years of experience in total with Fortinet FortiGate.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Fortinet FortiGate is stable in the data center environment, and it is stable in its functionality.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The solution is scalable.

How are customer service and support?

Their customer service is great because the TAC service in Latin America is available 24/7 in English and Spanish. I am happy with the service. In Latin America, when I call at night, the response is in English, and during the day, it is in Spanish. The only challenge is the language availability at night, but I rate it a 10.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

How was the initial setup?

The setup is simple and easy, with no difficult configuration required for the devices.

What was our ROI?

Fortinet provides a return on investment. When using FortiSwitches and FortiAP, additional licenses are not required.

What other advice do I have?

I worked with the implementation and presales of Fortinet FortiGate in the past. In the past two years, I haven't worked with deployment, but I have experience with presales in the last year. I am familiar with the SD-WAN capabilities. The solution focuses on user experience because the path selection is optimized for the user or application.

I rate Fortinet FortiGate a 10 out of 10 as it is a great product.

I don't know how Fortinet FortiGate can be improved; I find it comfortable and appreciate it as it is.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have used the Fortinet FortiGate solution for three years and a different firewall for more than ten years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Stability is important, and I can be contacted via email for further details.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

My experience with the SD WAN capabilities includes working with more than one company, including a small company and a big company with users ranging from twenty to nine hundred. The users can see the tracking.

How are customer service and support?

I rate the support of Fortinet as internal departmental support, which helps me, although I have no other experience.

Ensures network security while simplifying administration and offering valuable support

  • August 26, 2025
  • Review from a verified AWS customer

What is our primary use case?

Our use case for Fortinet FortiGate is network administration and network security; this is the use for Fortinet FortiGate.

What is most valuable?

The best features of Fortinet FortiGate are security, configuration facility, and easy configuration. Additionally, we get very good support from the manufacturer. The major impact of Fortinet FortiGate for clients is providing a redundant path from the service locations or servers location to the users that are in another location; this is the best impact.

What needs improvement?

One area for improvement for Fortinet FortiGate could be the price, as my clients here are small companies, and they might not have the resources or money to always buy a Fortinet FortiGate solution or FortiGate products.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been with that platform for about two to three years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

In general, Fortinet FortiGate's stability is very good, but in some cases, there are unusual situations. For example, we have one client with high availability with two Fortinet FortiGates, where one of them has high processor and memory usage while the other one is low, and they work in a passive-active scheme for availability. The strange part is that one Fortinet FortiGate works perfectly, and the other one has high processor and memory consumption.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Most clients are in one location, but two or three clients have SD-WAN characteristics in their implementations.

How are customer service and support?

I would rate their support a nine out of ten. The support is very good, but it's not always easy to find a Spanish speaker, as some clients don't know how to speak English and need support in Spanish.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

What other advice do I have?

I integrate SD-WAN features for some clients; specifically, I have three or four clients with SD-WAN integrations, while most of my clients are with one location. I find it easy integrating these capabilities.

Security is very good with Fortinet for my clients; this is one of the best reasons to make a decision to buy a Fortinet solution.

Fortinet FortiGate saves a lot of time in expert hours from an expert engineer because the administration of the Fortinet FortiGate solution is easy, which may lead to fewer hours of an engineer spent on Fortinet FortiGate. It could save approximately 40 hours a month.

I would recommend this solution to others; it's the best solution in the market. The main advice I give to people who consider using Fortinet FortiGate is for security and administration, as we can get complete visibility of the network.

On a scale of 1-10, I rate this solution a 10.

Helps manage network threats effectively in real-time and offers good customization features

  • August 26, 2025
  • Review provided by PeerSpot

What is our primary use case?

We mainly use the Fortinet FortiGate for perimeter wall protection and internet usage, protecting our network from internet threats and our endpoints, so we've set it at a perimeter level.

How has it helped my organization?

The main benefit I have seen from using Fortinet FortiGate is the protection it offers because I can see threats that come through in real-time, and if they are blocked, I can see that. We are able to customize those features, and it's so customizable that I can tweak it to fit our environment; it has really been helpful.

The hardware-assisted DDoS protection in FortiGate has helped us. We are able to monitor traffic in real-time and block it as needed. We have enabled this feature in every policy we created, so it consistently checks for any threats.

What is most valuable?

What I appreciate about the Fortinet FortiGate is the throughput and the management aspect; it's easy to manage. Unlike what we used before, initially, we had Microsoft Forefront, so moving from that application-based to a firewall which is appliance-based was really helpful.

What needs improvement?

I would like to see the licensing aspect improved because there is a feature we were yearning to use, the bandwidth monitoring feature, but it's licensed separately. It's not bundled with the enterprise bundle, and since we normally buy the advanced hardware support annually, we found out that the license is licensed separately. If they could bundle it together, it could really be helpful to us.

We've been using it for the last seven years, and it has been helpful. We are looking forward to upgrading as the one we are having is at the end of life already. We are planning to upgrade to the latest one, and we are looking forward to the features it will offer.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been working with Fortinet FortiGate for seven years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

I haven't faced any downtimes, crashes, or issues with it; it's very stable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

It is scalable.

How are customer service and support?

My experience with technical support for Fortinet FortiGate has been excellent. I would rate them nine out of ten; they've been really good.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I decided to move from Microsoft to Fortinet FortiGate. Fortinet and Cisco were rated highly worldwide. We compared those two and settled for FortiGate because of its manageability. The Microsoft firewall used to fail frequently, so we didn't want to go to another Microsoft product.

How was the initial setup?

The experience with the initial setup and deployment process of the Fortinet FortiGate was complex, especially in terms of linking users. In our environment, we normally use the feature for Active Directory, and we don't give everyone internet access. We've enabled this feature called SSO linked to our Active Directory, and we create groups there. Setting that up initially was really tricky, so we had to engage the support team to sort us out. However, moving forward, it has been very good.

There are no challenges with updates and upgrades. They are straightforward. We have support from Fortinet and the local partner.

What about the implementation team?

We had a local partner here helping us with the initial setup.

What was our ROI?

It has worked and surpassed our expectations. We've really benefited from that.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

It's pretty average compared to our environment.

What other advice do I have?

My advice for other users looking into Fortinet FortiGate for their environment is to choose one that will serve them based on their needs, whether that's throughput or the number of users. That's really important to ensure they don't do an overkill, as we initially thought we went for a big firewall, only to realize later that it was the right choice. For our upgrade, we'll just go for a bit higher, but generally, it really serves us.

I would rate Fortinet FortiGate a nine out of ten.

Facing added costs hinders full functionality but maintains operations

  • August 22, 2025
  • Review provided by PeerSpot

What is our primary use case?

It is our security gateway that performs website checks and related security functions.

What is most valuable?

Fortinet FortiGate is stable. I am told that Fortinet FortiGate is one of the best solutions available, and I believe it. We rarely have any issues with it. My only concern is that they charge separately for every option that is available. It has not improved anything; it simply maintains and keeps operations going.

What needs improvement?

We are not utilizing Fortinet FortiGate to its full capacity because we have to pay for every small feature. It is also something I would replace once it starts to fail. Fortinet FortiGate appears very old, and everything we use requires additional payment.

For how long have I used the solution?

Fortinet FortiGate has been with us as long as the switches we've had. It was already here when I came on board, and it was implemented when we started up the school facilities about 10 years ago.

How are customer service and support?

I would rate it low because we rarely ever have to call support. When I call in, I do not have any issues to report.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We used to have a router, but we have since replaced them all.

What was our ROI?

It has not improved anything; it simply maintains and keeps operations going. Every year we pay close to $2,000 for this security, and we only use it for web filtering.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

The unified security gateway would be my first option. I think it does not charge separately for every product we need to use.

What other advice do I have?

We have Cisco products at our site, including Cisco switches deployed among our campus. We have Cisco WSC-3850 24-port switches, SG 300 28-port switches, and some old WSC-2960 48-port switches.

We use a Fortinet FortiGate 300e for our medium-sized organization. We have approximately 600 students, 200 staff, faculty, and office workers, totaling about 1,000 users going through it. It serves one location with three buildings.

We are planning to move away from Cisco switches as they have become quite expensive. Our strategy is to transition to Ubiquiti enterprise solutions.

This review has a rating of 5 out of 10.
