Magnet Forensics Recommendation

  • May 16, 2022
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I like that the tool is very intuitive and logically configured. The workflow is seamless and navigation within the interface is simplistic and straight-forward.
What do you dislike about the product?
The one main negative that I have is its inability to ingest .xry files from XRY extractions. I like to use both Cellebrite and XRY for verification on mobile extractions and it would be nice to be able to add both extractions to Magnet.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We can help protect our organization from external legal actions by collecting data and locating artifacts with Magnet that we are not able to find with other tools.

I use AXIOM for all my hard drive-related forensics.

What do you like best about the product?
The training is superb. Huge kudos to Justin, Simon and Hoyt on that front! The tool itself is versatile and pulls the data I need.
What do you dislike about the product?
The biggest downside when doing phone forensics is that you cannot view all the messages in a single conversation pane. It would be much easier to tag an entire chat than to piece together each message in a chain.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Deep dives into filesystems are possible (and one of the biggest benefits). The sources for where things are pieced together in the artifact view are all listed for verification.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
N/A

What do you like best about the product?
There are numerous things I like about Magnet Forensic's products. The top features for me and my team are portable cases to provide to our partner investigators and the ease of locating and bookmarking key artifacts saving substantial time within our investigations.
What do you dislike about the product?
Dislikes are rare when it comes to the Magnet suite of products. For the most part, anytime I have encountered an issue within one of the products or had a suggestion to improve a product it has always been met with a prompt response, resolving the concerns.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The greatest benefit to my team has been time savings. The Magnet Forensic tools allow us to locate and bookmark key evidence quickly and efficiently. The other major benefit to our office has been the cross integration with json files and Griffeye as we also heavily rely on the use of Griffeye.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Magnet Forensic tools are easily the best value for your money. The tools are easy to use and allow for easy collaboration through the use of portable cases.

Great Support and Excellent Tools for Law Enforcement

What do you like best about the product?
I like the ease of use of the software - In my experience, it has been the most straightforward platform to obtain web-related data. Web history, search history, email parsing, username information, and user tokens are parsed well and given up in a straightforward manner. I also like that each piece of evidence is sourced so that it can be cross-checked either using Axiom or by any other tool.
What do you dislike about the product?
I would love a dark mode. I have also found that trying to re-process a piece of evidence which has already been processed a little bit unintuitive and requires some tweaking. I have not tried it in a while, but the last time I did, I essentially ended up with two evidence items in my case which were the same but had been processed differently. I think that going back and adding some parsing to an artifact that has already been parsed of other things should be easy. For instance, if I have carved a hard drive for image artifacts and then later learn that I require any phone backups from the device, it should be easy to just add that and process it into what I already have, without duplicating the evidence object in the dashboard and in an easy way.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
One of my favorite things about it has been the parsing of previous file paths to find information. Since Windows stores that information in file explorer for some of these types of artifacts it has led me straight to collections or drive letters where I can now verify that things had been mounted earlier, encrypted volumes, or similar. I also just discovered today that it can parse out the GUIDs used in Snapchat in a BFU extraction and give me an actual username associated, which I have not seen in competitors software.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Give it a try; they're happy to let you use it free of cost for a trial period!

What do you like best about the product?
The documentation is helpful and the examples are clear.
What do you dislike about the product?
Update the profile for Mobil devices. I started to work with a Mobil phone to get an image from the device, but the tool does not have the profile or image profile to gain access with Magent Axiom Process or Magent Axiom Acquire.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Forensic analysis from several sources such as laptop and cellular, to get shreds of evidence of potential frauds.

Magnet Axiom Review

  • October 13, 2021
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Two things: first, its a very comprehensive tool, and second, Tech Support is always on top of any problems/questions that I have (and I always have a bunch!!)
What do you dislike about the product?
Actually, having used many other tools, there isn't anything I dislike about Axiom.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
My exams deal mainly with CSAM. Axiom does a great job letting me identify critical items (skin tone filter, new Media category, etc). Tagging my file items, exporting them to a folder for case agent review, and creating either a report or a portable case are all extremely valuable capabilities.
