Magnet forensics

What do you like best about the product?
Magnet Forensic is a new player in digital forensics. It provides tools that are useful for data analysis in criminal investigations. While the tools aren't perfect and could be improved, they are user fiendly and well made. It's much better than what we currently use (FTK, Encase). I like the support we received from Kayla and the solution consultant at Magnet Forensic, to evaluate our needs.
What do you dislike about the product?
I tried Axiom. There are things I like and things I dislike. Like FTK, the tool does struggle when there is a lot of data. There should be a way to cancel tasks that takes more than 5 seconds. (because I'll do something else; filter more; etc.)
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Analyzing data from internet history (IEF; replaced by Axiom). Timeline analysis on everything at once (all computers, mobile devices, etc.). We also use DVR Examiner, which was made by DME Forensics. It's a nice tool to get video data from DVR systems.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Try Axiom. It's a good tool. Easy to use and learn.

Forensic Examination and integrated reporting greatly increase efficiency.

Great tool. A must have.

Great Company / Software

What do you like best about the product?
AXIOM is great for internet based cases, as well as quickly viewing videos. Also, customer support is always wuick to respond and answer any question we've had.
What do you dislike about the product?
Loading an extraction from Graykey is a little confusing, AXIOM works fine with it...but making sure it is done in the right steps is a concern.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Nothing in particular, mostly because how we do things in our offic works great for us and we have not reached out for anything as far as workflow, storage, etc.

Magnet Forensics-Licensed User

What do you like best about the product?
I enjoy how easy it is to navigate the software. From day 1, before training it was user intuitive. I especially enjoy using the Cloud acquisition tool in ICAC investigations.
What do you dislike about the product?
Not many downsides, customer service is great and so is the online support procedure.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Magnet for me is solving the problem of needing a seperate software for hard drive imaging and analyzing. With Magnet Axiom, it's all in one for hard drives. It also helps with exporting media in a project VICS format.

I have some feature request they are looking into for the macOS forensic portion.

A must-have in your forensics toolset

What do you like best about the product?
The variety of artifacts parsers that are available by default with Magnet Axiom Cyber (+ the capabilities to add those shared by the community or even those that you develop yourself). I could also mention the fact that the software allows us to proceed to all of the required steps for an investigation: Acquire evidence (either locally or remotely), process and parse artifacts and investigate.

Their team is there for us when we have specific needs or ideas (or if we need support), we are dealing with humans that care about their users and it's worth mentioning.
What do you dislike about the product?
Sometimes, when working with large evidence/cases, there could be some bug that forces us to restart the client. It mostly happens with "Magnet Axiom Examine" and not with "Magnet Axiom Process" - which is a "good" thing as the "acquire" and "process" phases are reliable. It's just the viewer that sometimes has a hard time when we have millions of artifacts in the case.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Through the usage of their solutions, we can quickly acquire evidence for any cyber incidents and parse artifacts so in the space of a few minutes it's possible for us to get a quick view of what's happening. Also, an interesting portion is the automation product (Magnet Automate) that will help us automatically acquire/process a forensics package when there is a detection/alert so can get fresh data when the incident happens, not hours after. Automating those kinds of actions is a problem solver for us.

A great piece of software developped by a great team!

What do you like best about the product?
All the artifacts captured and the way they are represented in the GUI. This is really awesome! Displaying conversation in Teams or other messaging apps is a breeze with the "Conversation View". The lawyers here don't want PSTs anymore! ;)
What do you dislike about the product?
Dark mode could be better, templates for picking up specific artifacts once the data is indexed would be really nice. Filtering directly on a column or a value would be nice as well.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Helping me ingest different types of evidence, helps us also share the load amongst the different analysts. Helps us deliver forensic investigations with great quality.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
It's really a great product honestly! Give it a shot, it should really change the way you do investigations. There are a few things to know in order to do good ingestions, but once you know that, it works great!

Magnet offers best results for digital investigations

What do you like best about the product?
It can parse many artifacts that others can't. It is best software for PC forensics.
What do you dislike about the product?
Unfriendly report creation. It's hard to create proper report to our investigators using Magnet.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Carves many PC artifacts that others can't. And its automated mostly.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
It is hard for investigator to create proper report with important evidence from few tabs (artifacts/case overview...) it works perfect with tagging & exporting like other software practice (Oxygen, UFED). there should be "Important Evidence" tabu under Artifacts tab in which investigators could gather evidence important for ongoing investigation. After they check (tag) all important data there should be option to create report for that data only.

    Telecommunications

The tool is fast, efficient, user friendly and continues to provide new artifacts.

What do you like best about the product?
The targeted selection option when doing a remote collection makes the process easier when trying to decide which artifacts to collect.
What do you dislike about the product?
When reviewing files & folders on Mac, the file system format is broken down similar to Windows where Mac doesn't operate the same.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It's solving the age old issue of processing speed and ease of use. Forensics has expanded and Magnet has evolved with the needs of the customer.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
It's difficult to make the decision on which tool meets your companies needs, but if you're looking for a forensics software that is customer focused and values your time this is the tool for you.
