Your logs: searchable, alertable, actionable

  • November 14, 2017
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Papertrail makes it incredibly easy to search your application logs. Logs are often the only way we have to answer crucial questions about how our application behaves in production: what happened? to whom? why? how many times? what were the effects? But it isn't always straightforward to get those answers out of logs. This is where Papertrail comes in. Send your logs to Papertrail and get access to them in near-real-time, with the ability to search by process, host, time (in natural language!) and a rich query syntax so you can narrow down exactly the event you're looking for and get a shareable link to it in your logs with all of the context.
What do you dislike about the product?
Papertrail doesn't yet support searching by regular expression, which, while not a necessity, would sometimes be handy.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Working with a dozen developers on a multitude of applications, Papertrail gives my team an easy, familiar way to find and share log events when we're reviewing code, diagnosing issues, or otherwise need a way to see what our applications are doing.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Try their free plan and you'll see! Paid plans offer longer retention, but you can see all the benefits on the free plan.

All Your Network Monitoring Needs at a Glance

  • November 09, 2017
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
SolarWinds gives you a lot of information packed in a very visually friendly format. If you require more detail, most of the areas are expandable.
What do you dislike about the product?
My biggest gripe that I have with SolarWinds is that the report function is really hard to use if you are an intermediate user. While the report function is extremely powerful, customizing it to your needs will take a little bit of work.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We use SolarWinds to monitor the health of various nodes across the network.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
I recommend that you send the SolarWinds administrators to the education courses offered because they will be your first point of contact if the software breaks. Also, the networking staff will come to see this as a critical tool in short order, so the maximum downtime allowable will also have to be minimized.

Staying online with Solarwinds

  • October 30, 2017
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Solarwinds is a great service that very clearly displays our server status information. Alerts are very clearly represented in the web portal.
What do you dislike about the product?
There is a lot to learn, I would love to have some better user community input.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
This tool has allow us to better track our network equipment throughout the world.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
When implementing this software it is important to ensure that your company has a well though-out road map or plan in place. This will insure that your companies software roll-out will go smoothly and quickly.

Functional and flexible monitoring solutions

  • October 29, 2017
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
It will monitor anything and everything you need. SMTP, Windows, Linux, Virtual, Web, it is Very flexible. The product delivers as it is billed. Anything that you want to monitor it will monitor.

Managing credentials for windows, linux, SMTP is very easy and intuitive.

The NOC views and dashboards are very good and flexible.

The pricing is good especially when compared against the new cloud monitoring services.
What do you dislike about the product?
Too much time to setup and maintain. Alert spam is really easy to run into. Dependancies do not seem to work as well as expected. It talks a little too long to configure everything. The UI doesn't feel modern. Nothing to differentiate it from the competitors.

The renewal pricing could be better.

The sales practices and renewal tactics are very annoying. I would recommend if using the product to engage a reseller and have all interaction through them to create a buffer.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are solving event management and incident response. It allows IT to proactively respond to events before our customer report there is an issue. The Solarwinds Server and Application monitor solution delivers on these business objectives.

It is hard to monitor ROI on something like this. We all need a solution and they all seem to be similarly priced.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Consider the time to create monitoring and maintain the system. Items like dependancies are difficult to setup correctly. The alert span is really easy. Solarwinds sales tactics and practices are very annoying.

All the on-premise solutions are similar in pricing with the same features. It is hard to say one is poor vs another. Solarwinds will delivery, but so will their competitors, find the solution that fits your staffing and company.

Good network troubleshooting app with extra add-ons

  • October 27, 2017
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
We've used NPM for several years to monitor for potential network issue and the ability to alert us to take action before the crisis hits. Tech support is very responsive.
What do you dislike about the product?
Aggressive sales team. We use the VoIP and Network Quality Mgr as well and get regular sales calls and emails pushing other products. We have what we need so the constant sales pitches get annoying.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Identifying potential network issues before they become business impacting. We get 24/7 monitoring and alerts in advance so we can respond as needed to keep our systems up and stable
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Product provides a great set of tools for alerting but need to be set carefully to balance the amount of alerts otherwise you can get too many alerts that are not critical.

Can easily create different levels and alerts to provide info or critical notices.

Still looking

  • October 24, 2017
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
What I like is the robust of the software. Yes it does monitoring, that's the whole purpose of Solarwinds. I enjoy setting up alerts to view my disk space, memory usage, and could usage. I also like how it scan your nodes and find printer and switches, firewall, the VMs, hosts for the VMs, LUNs, etc. It does monitoring really well. It can also monitor your applications such as Skype and Microsoft Office 365.
What do you dislike about the product?
What I don't like is they spread so far out that everything is so deep to analyze. Most of the things you don't want to see shows up. I mentioned this up because it takes a boat load time to load the interface, for you to click on the link to navigate, for you to config. It takes too much time to wait.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are looking at ways to make network monitoring better without having to spend so much time managing a role f monitoring our network. We thought this product will give us that, it does...but it takes too much time to wait when you have a lot to configure for monitoring. If for any benefits, it would be that we have a monitoring application for our network which we didn't before.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
If you need to have a software that monitor your network and almost everyone is using it, get Solarwinds. But it may not work for you. Keep looking and trying. If you give up, get Solarwinds because everyone is doing it.

Does it all

What do you like best about the product?
The extensive amount of configuration possible
What do you dislike about the product?
its complexity can sometimes cause confusion
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
monitors and infrastructure risk assessment
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Make sure this is going to full fill all of your needs prior to going down the path of implementing. This takes a bit to adjust to. Once everything is setup though it gives excessive amounts of automated support.

Great Network Device Management Tool

  • October 18, 2017
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The ability to pull in network devices from multiple vendors and have information all in one place.
What do you dislike about the product?
The GUI interface could be a little better.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are able to see the status of all of our network devices all in one place. We also can pull reports, save syslog messages and be alerted when a device goes down.
