Useless Redhat Instance with no package upstream. DIY yourself.

Needed to fire an instance up for SRT development. only to find after wasting an hour trying to get gstreamer installed for seperate testing I could not get it installed. Redhat is like the worst Linux ever and terrible to manage. That bad I wasted time trying to install something that didn't exist as its upstream package rep is not in sync with anything else.

Going to have to DIY my own debian and use apt. At least I can install gstreamer without wasting time in my R&D phase being on a timer and all.

Disappointing

It's disappointing that Wowza's AMI doesn't support high-throughput networking via Elastic Networking Adapter. From Amazon's documentation on ENA: "Enhanced networking provides higher bandwidth, higher packet-per-second (PPS) performance, and consistently lower inter-instance latencies."

This adapter is available on lots of EC2 instance types, including the new M5 generation, providing 10 Mbit performance. Comparing M4.large to M5.large, the M5 is cheaper, and *way* better network performance: 0.47 Gbit/s on M4.large and 10.04 Gbit/s on M5.large.

Alas, I can't use Wowza's AMI to take advantage of this massive upgrade in performance.

Come on Wowza. Latency matters in streaming!

Using Wowza AMI on EC2 since 2011

Six years of experience using Wowza AMI on Amazon EC2 (m3 machine). We bring our own license from Wowza (BYOL). Very reliable 24/7 live streaming for small Public Access station. Cost is reasonable for our limited budget. We know Amazon takes good care of their compute infrastructure and we see it in the reliability of the product.
