What do you like best about the product?
DB2 is easy to use and fast in processing
What do you dislike about the product?
New technologies like HP vertica or any other column-based databases are faster.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Fetching data for preprocessing purposes
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Try to get column based storage tech incorporated too, or may introduce a new product offering

What do you like best about the product?
I can't find anything I enjoy about this rdbms.
What do you dislike about the product?
There is alot I dislike; slow, missing alot of functionality which makes it impossible to do dev work, very outdated.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Usually can't solved complex business problems with db2. Something that takes me a few lines to write in mssql takes hundreds in db2.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Stay away.

What do you like best about the product?
Db2 comes from IBM Mainframes background which is a well known industry name and considering the fact that it's been around for decades, there is absolutely no question on its credibility. I have used DB2 on Z OS as well as Windows and it works without any issue on both platforms.
What do you dislike about the product?
Really there is not much you do not like on Db2.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It is a relational database and does what it is supposed to do.

What do you like best about the product?
Concurrency feature of DB2 is one of the best feature.
Locking features in DB2 is pretty cool and needed functionality.
DB2 is easy to use and fairly easy to implement.
Integration of DB2 with other IBM products like filenet etc works pretty well.
What do you dislike about the product?
Maintenance cost of DB2 is expensive.
DB2 doesn't have web interface which can be easily queries to extract data.
Db2 doesn't support distributed systems.
DB2 lacks monitoring tools.
SQL used for DB2 does't have lot of functions.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Day to day transactional data needs are fulfilled with DB2.
Big data is pretty manageable in DB2.
Using DB2 for the transactional data.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Db2 is fairly easy to support day to day transactional data needs.

the product is easy to administer, the patching and upgrades are easy and simple. Backup and recovery solution is great

not aggressive as oracle in implementing new features

performance
works as designed, robust and supports online transaction processing and analytical processing.
What do you dislike about the product?
nothing. like the product.
would be good for supporting on all platforms like intel based, other than Linux
Need columanr support to go with industryu demands

make it columnar database too - very good for analytics

it comes bundled with the machine without a additional cost. it supports multiple applications, creating multiple data bases. it can handle large volumes of data without much performane degradation

There are times it gives object locks during some operation though mode we use should not create object locks. There are times we need expert knowledge to solve performance issues
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
we use for providing banking services. we are running banking system smoothly supporting 10 million customers

DB2 on the mainframe is tuned and responsive

The learning curve needed to be effective but this is not DB2's issue.

We traverse terabytes of data and DB2 is key to helping us do that
