Red Hat Linux is one of a highly efficient and secure operating system.

  • April 14, 2019
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Red Hat Linux is secure as all the process/ tasks run based on permissions. Hence there is no chance any virus/ worm can enter your system. On top of that, the software makes sure only active tasks are up and running. Rest of the tasks keep on sleeping until activated which increases CPU performance.
What do you dislike about the product?
This operating system does not lack any feature. You can use any software on this system with any sort of versions. It is highly flexible.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Being a highly flexible Operating System, we can modify the base packages according to our need and configure the system accordingly. You can delete the unnecessary packages and keep only the important and useful applications.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
You need to have basic knowledge of Linux for better administration on Red Hat Linux.

Rock solid Linux distro for production environment

  • April 07, 2019
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Since using Redhat from 2004, it's always been incredibly stable. In comparision to latest and greatest glitzy distros like ubuntu or debian or mint. It doesnt have the latest windows manager but I've had the least amount of compatibility issues or kernel panics with different hardwares.
What do you dislike about the product?
Doesn't have the latest and the greatest kernels as Redhat takes long time to incorporate latest patches from upstream.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are using it as main http, ssh, and named server for the company. It's been far more customizable than any of the solutions you find on the market. The uptime is over a year without a hiccup.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Try Centos first as Redhat subscription isn't the most affordable especially if you are small business and IT budget is very limited. CenOs is exact replica of Redhat and security packages are also provided. All for free. There are so many choices for Linux distros. But if you are running a server and need extreme stability Redhat shouldn't bee overlooked.

What do you like best about the product?
Very user friendly and compatible with latest technologies. device management and package management is very easy.
What do you dislike about the product?
The operating system has not much to dislike about. However, /tmp should not be kept world writable.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We have most of our application servers hosted on RedHat Linux. RHEL is cheap and user friendly and easy to deploy.

Fast, Secure and a reliable customer support

  • March 31, 2019
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Red Hat Linux has a strong user community and an excellent customer support. Also, it receives periodic security updates to prevent against malicious attacks. These are the top reasons why we chose Red Hat Enterprise Linux.
It is available both in server and desktop editions and contains lots of free libraries that helps with software development/deployment.
What do you dislike about the product?
It's heavily text based. It is meant to be installed on remote servers be it physical or virtual and then to be accessed via shells. Not a bummer but it does requires technical skills.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are using Red Hat Enterprise Linux as OS platform for a large physical and virtual infrastructure that runs an ERP containing a set of Java based applications with high transaction volumes. RedHat also allows remote patching with tools like Katello, so the administration is quite easy.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
It's fast, secure and has a very reliable customer support. Make sure to ask for discounts on the license.

Very good OS for Enterprise

  • March 14, 2019
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The RedHat linux platform is one of the best OSes I've used for software development. The massive amount of libraries available for free and general compatibility of most everything means it makes a project much more efficient.
Another important feature is the continous updates by the RedHat organization to continue to provide a secure system preventing hackers and malicious entities from breaching the firewalls.
What do you dislike about the product?
The poor UI compared to other Linux OS es such as Ubuntu. The REDHAT platform is heavily text based as it is meant to be used on remote servers rather than desktops; however, sometimes it is necessary to use it as a GUI and this functionality can be added. In addition there can be more of a webbased interface built native into the RedHat rather than finding third party platform.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We deployed to host our core software program to process massive amounts of data in real time and give us a result allowing our business to make a core decision. The high level of reliability and the high security give us a huge benefit as our systems can cause big problems for residents of California if hacked by malicious entities and defame our organization resulting in future funding cuts or excessive oversights.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Best for those looking for highly secure system.

Fantastic Stable Enterprise Linux Distribution

  • March 14, 2019
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
RHEL is a stable, long-term Supported, Enterprise-grade Linux distribution, with a fantastic company behind it and wide support from application vendors.
What do you dislike about the product?
As with CentOS, which follows RHEL, RHEL tends to lag behind in software updates, valuing stability over cutting-edge features.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Migration away from Windows and big-iron platforms, to more commodity hardware platforms. Enables easy cloud integration, is very highly manageable, and easy to maintain.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Consider supporting a company that is truly committed to Open Source software and makes their money off services, not licenses.

Features and performance of RedHat Linux

  • March 14, 2019
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Red Hat Enterprise Linux is a Linux distribution developed by Red Hat and targeted toward the commercial market. Red Hat Enterprise Linux is released in server versions for x86-64, Power ISA, ARM64, and IBM Z, and a desktop version for x86-64.RedHat Enterprise Linux is most powerful enough to handle almost all major tasks. The most attractive part of the Linux platform is nothing but its kernel and shell. We can easily achieve multitasking capability using Linux distros. The download size also very smaller compared to all other platforms. Network storage enhancements include Autofs, FS-Cache, and iSCSI support.
What do you dislike about the product?
The installation is a bit difficult compared to any platforms. The additional software installations are also difficult to some extent. When Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8 configures a large number of devices, a large number of console messages occurs on the system console. This happens, for example, when there are a large number of logical unit numbers (LUNs), with multiple paths to each LUN. The flood of console messages, in addition to other work the kernel is doing, might cause the kernel watchdog to force a kernel panic because the kernel appears to be hung.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
RedHat Linux is fast and it can prevent a malicious attack like the virus. Maintaining a Linux platform servers helps to increase performance and speed.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Try to incorporate other platform software installations.

The Gold Standard For Enterprise Linux Implementations

  • March 08, 2019
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
This is the gold standard for Linux in the Enterprise. It comes with support (albeit paid) from RedHat and most Linux applications are packaged for RHEL.
What do you dislike about the product?
It's rather expensive. Each server license has a list price of $349. There are free solutions available that are almost identical to RHEL.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We use it in specific situations where support is required by customers or vendors, and for applications that only support RHEL rather than a free alternative.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Consider free solutions if you're on a budget or have a large number of servers. But, remember that by buying RHEL, you're supporting continued development of the RedHat-derived distros.
