The best software for Business Modeling, needs more investment
What do you like best about the product?
PA provides best in class flexibility for business modeling. It provides users a flexible way to interact with and change their data in real time at scale. When compared to its competitors TM1 continues to scale better than popular alternatives like Anaplan
What do you dislike about the product?
TM1 is showing its age and still lags behind competitors when it comes to User Interfaces. While changes are coming, they simply do not show up quick enough. The focus on new users and ease of adoption leaves enterprise customers feeling like 2nd class. Additionally, IBM's paid strategy has made adoption and trial a challange for new users. Without a developer addition of the software there will continue to be a lack of skill set in the market.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
PA can be used to solve almost any problems in the office of finance. Planning, Analysis, and Reporting, if you can dream it you can probably build it.

Running reports that need to be sorted by various filters such as period, account, entity for various tax and accounting needs
User-friendly and helpful reporting tool
What do you like best about the product?
The application is very easy to use. It doesn't take long time to learn how to get the most of it and how to improve your work. It's a very helpful tool in both reporting but also performing financial analysis.
What do you dislike about the product?
It would be helpful to have the possibility to access some video tutorials on how different interfaces can be managed and the different ways you can view the reports/data.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Reconciliation of financial statements, KPI reporting, Intercompany transactions.

IBM Planning Analytics can be of great help to every organisation, which provides knowledge and assistance in financial reporting and business analysis.

it is not a bad thing but the access is very limited depending the user

What do you like best about the product?
It is an interactive workspace for reporting and analytics purposes that allows for easy aggregation of different views / cubes through the export to excel function. The ability to manipulate different dimensions makes the software interactive and efficient. It also allows for personal views that can be saved and re-used in the software for recurring reporting processes.
What do you dislike about the product?
Software latency issues as there are often freezes and system lags.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
IBM Cognos allows for analytics and reporting for businesses. It helps with the budgeting and forecasting of expenses and revenues for businesses.
Reliable software with all the functionality needed for FPM and OPM
What do you like best about the product?
The multi cube approach for multi solution which makes allows much faster build of solutions, the immediate update, multi user, integration with Excel

Needs a bit of understanding of the functionality before one can really built a solution

Mostly Financial Planning, budgeting and forecasting but as well operational planning. in-depth analysis, sales analysis and forecasting.

The latest release, IBM Planning Analytics, has some great new functionality which can seriously impact the current and new solutions build on TM1
Data analyst's must
What do you like best about the product?
As a data analyst, I deal with a lot of data. I like to look at the same data in multiple views, with different filters, historically, etc. However, that means that I will have to create multiple files. With TM1, I don't have to do that. Once I export it to Excel as a formula driven file, all I have to do is edit the cell that it is pulling from. For example, if I want to see 2016 data when I pulled 2017 data, all I have to do is change the cell that contains 2017 into 2016 and press F9 (which will refresh the page).
What do you dislike about the product?
I dislike that it takes a longer time for the file to process if the file has a lot of data. Also, if the file exceeds a certain amount of lines that it will export, it won't work, which means there is a limit to the amount of data that you can work with. Also, it isn't super flexible with the reporting. You can export it so that it has no layout or the given layout. However, the given layout looks old.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We use TM1 for budgeting, forecasting, and anything related to financial planning. We have different cubes for different purposes and can be used by many different users because it is versatile.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
It definitely takes time to understand it as a user. However, if you are doing more than pulling data and exporting it, such as creating a separate cube, you will definitely need training from IBM or take a professional course.
Old but efficient
What do you like best about the product?
IBM Cognos TM1 is trustworthy. I really like that you can export the file into two different forms: one with formulas and the other without formula. With a simple change in the filter, it can change the data on the worksheet. It is very simple if you are careful with it. If you work with data analyzing, this product will come in handy for you.
What do you dislike about the product?
The bigger your data is the longer it will take for your file to reload. Sometimes, it might take 20 minutes depending on how big your file is. People that are not patient like me, will need to go for a walk or something. Also, it is very unforgiving. If you make even a slightest spelling error, your entire file will reload as error.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We use TM1 for many different projects. One of the biggest project is budgeting. We will look at the historical data of the expenses and compare it from year to year. Then we will compare to what the regional managers have put it and see if their planned budget is pragmatic or not.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
They should look into how they can make the report look better. Often times, we have to edit how the file look. If TM1 can spit out the information in a way that it looks more presentable, that'd be great.

What do you like best about the product?
What I love the most about TM1 is how I can create both a values file and a formula driven excel file. If I'm creating a report, I can just create a template with the formulas embedded so all I have to do is change the month or the year. After I refresh the page, it automatically updates the page.
What do you dislike about the product?
I don't like the template that it comes with the product. It makes my report look very old-fashioned. The interface of the product can be modernized. Also, if the system is down I can't do my job. I also don't like that there is a limit to how much data I can pull out.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I utilize this product to do many things. I can see the monthly budget with TM1. I use TM1 to either create a report or to analyze different accounts.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
TM1 needs more update and make it more user friendly. It is very intimidating at first.
