What do you like best about the product?
SolarWinds provides all of the information that we need for our PCI compliance needs.
What do you dislike about the product?
The solarwinds software is a little complicated to navigate around. Wish there were better way to retrieve reporting.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
PCI compliance.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
There are other software packages that do a better job and are easier to use. The price is also a little high.

Solar Winds for Exchange

What do you like best about the product?
Lots of customizations and includes support for DAG monitoring for Exchange environments. Important information and alerts are pre-configured. Synthetic monitoring gives you the chance to catch issues before they arise. Combined with the SolarWinds Orion suite, you can use this tool to monitor every performance aspect of your IT infrastructure.
What do you dislike about the product?
Even with all the customizations, a lot false alerts are created. We have worked with Solorwind engineers and we have not be able to create rules to limit our false positives alerting. This in return has generated about 10000 extra emails to our admin accounts. While the tool gives us what we need, it also produces way too much noise. This has cause our team to create a lot of email rules to filter out what is needed and auto delete of alerts. In return, we get the alerts we need but with too many alerts. The dashboard is ok, but needs improvement.

Support for third party cert is needed.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Monitoring of all of servers to ensure services and servers are up. This also included monitoring of our networks, databases, services for customize applications, Database DAG reporting, SQL Server, ping, application servers, active directory and the like.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Solorwinds can be shared with another application server and placed on a shared SQL server. This is great when considering having the upkeep with servers in one's environment.

Great tool for IP address management and research

What do you like best about the product?
I love the fast search when researching what ip addresses are connected to specific network switches/ports.
What do you dislike about the product?
I wish the data was more real time. With that being said I'm not sure what the current polling params are setup for my company.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Network/Device/Camera/Switch/Port troubleshooting/research.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Great for IT support who works with network switches/devices.

Very useful software for monitoring our own applications

What do you like best about the product?
We love the integration with both AWS (Amazon Web Services) and Microsoft Azure, along with the ability to build our own monitors. We've been able to add custom Glassfish and Tomcat monitoring.
What do you dislike about the product?
Still very Microsoft focussed, it would be good to see more attention to linux. More focus also needed on removing Network Atlas
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We need timely and accurate monitoring of our business applications. Our support team have been able to move away from the unreliable Nagios system, they now have a dashboard that shows them exactly what they need.

Download the trial and give it a try.

SAM is an intuitive and feature rich monitoring solution

What do you like best about the product?
We bought SAM largely for the built-in monitoring, but it has turned out to be very easy for us to build our own templates to monitor applications specific to our environment. In addition, the Thwack community permits the sharing of templates which makes the solution even more powerful.
What do you dislike about the product?
I find the licensing model to be less than ideal. I don't hate it, but I just don't love it. But, to be honest I have not got a better solution either.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
SAM has been an important tool in our strategy to be more proactive and discover/resolve minor issues before they blow up into huge issues. Abilities such as alerting on a service crashing and automatically restarting it, or specific app templates for Exchange and SQL with a large number of items to monitor give deep insight into these mission critical apps. In addition the built in documentation does more than just tell you when something passes a threshold, it gives a reference to what the parameter means so you can determine if you need to adjust the threshold for your environment.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
I do not have extensive experience with competitive products, but you should take a look at this solution.

Window to your servers

What do you like best about the product?
Great software, love the lay out compared to something like Logic Monitor. I also like that the software application module also can connect into there database performance analyser and pull even more stat information into the main. This software means our team is far more proactive and when the email alert comes into there mailbox they can click on a hyper link to link off to there server and go look at the problem, this means the IT department are getting press with in the company. We are not waiting for the phone to ring and then have someone complain that something has stopped working.
What do you dislike about the product?
If you have a server that has multiple DNS names there is no way that you can have a pointer that redirects you to the proper server name. There still needs to have more work done on the SQL AppInsight we get a lot of false positives, but its better than nothing, so you need to adjust the metrics.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are able to notify other support teams that there services that they support have stopped. This makes us look so much more on top of things, rather than the user calling to complain that something is not running and when is it going to be fixed.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Its easy to setup and get going... its easy to scan your network and pick up everything... so its also very easy to get information overload.

We are currently monitoring over 1000 network devices and servers in NPM
It's very easy to maintain infra integrity through NPM
Recommendations to others considering the product:
The configuration part is very hectic but very crucial.
For successful deployment of this tool you need to form a tough foundation
No compromises with that

What do you like best about the product?
With the Orion Integrated platform it is greate to have a single pane for troubleshooting and quickly getting to root cause.
What do you dislike about the product?
Sometimes the interface is slow, and it would be nice to not have to hover over circles to get what a monitor is.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Root cause and performance monitoring across over 800 servers.
