The complication of the setup for the software is very legnthy. It takes a very detail oriented engineer in order to be sure the policies and event logs are setup to alert the right people for the right devices.

One stop for all network monitoring
What do you like best about the product?
Great multifunction montioring tool. Easy to use. Able to customize views, create maps and put nodes you are monitoring on maps so you can easily identify outage issues related to areas. Able to create customer alerts to notify of issues with nodes our outages.
What do you dislike about the product?
Difficult to setup initially. Cost is high for certain modules. No migration path to move to another solution.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Active/Passive Networking Monitoring and Log Collection. Network Insights, app insights, service monitoring and task scheduling.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Solarwinds NPM is highly scalable and delivers a wealth of troubleshooting and monitoring tools wrapped up neatly in a slick UI. Just beware of the element-based pricing as it can become headache.
Cost elusive
What do you like best about the product?
I like honestly the ability of the software to provide what our business needs.
What do you dislike about the product?
The pricing is often too confusing and much too inconsistent.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Integration and deployment for all our software as a service
All Around Good
What do you like best about the product?
This software is very comprehensive. The configuration is very in-depth but will allow you too track any system event that you may need.
What do you dislike about the product?
The alerts configuration needs to have a template option. The ability to make a new alert but keep all of the base settings the same. Who to alert, frequency of reminders etc.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are able to predict outages before they happen. Allowing us to be proactive rather than reactive.
SAM Experiences
What do you like best about the product?
App Insight for SQL. Its personally one of my favourite templates that Solarwinds do out of the box. It can make you appear to know what you're talking about with your SQL environment.
That aside you get detailed app health and performance metrics help you pinpoint the root cause of application issues. Automatic application discoveries for some applications. IIS for example. It can be configured on one dashboard, app stack!
It is very quick to install and start using however it takes years to master.
I also like the built in virtualizaion monitoring. 80% of our kit is VM based so this is very handy to have included out of the box.
One of the most important features is Thwack and the template and content exchange they have on there. I have personally used many templates created by Solarwinds users.

What do you dislike about the product?
Strangely there isn't much I don't like! The only thing that could be better is displays and dashboards for custom application templates and scripts.
I know its possible to make them look more attractive like the other templates, however it would be nice to have an out the box way to achieve this.

as soon as we put Appinsight onto our SQL and Exchange kit, we saw a few issues. Without any major DB experience it let me identify the issue and the gave me tips on how to fix it. It even links you to the appropriate website, ie Microsoft to find more out.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Stack with other Solarwinds offerings, WPM for example
Granular Infrastructure and OS Monitoring with no Intuition or Artificial Intelligence
What do you like best about the product?
SolarWinds SAM is highly customizable and can monitor almost anything on a server that can be accessed remotely. AppInsight monitors provide very rich performance data. NetPath and Perfstack features have been used heavily since added to the platform. The community is very knowledgeable and more helpful than support (sadly). The forum has great participation and a great rewards system to keep users engaged. There are lots of ideas shared on the site and many monitors have been uploaded and available for use to any user.
What do you dislike about the product?
The product requires tedious administration and is very time consuming.
Alert storms are common and fine tuning thresholds is highly manual and tedious.
The UI is cluttered, slow, and outdated. Customizing the UI is painful and has a learning curve.
The learning curve is very high and frustrating for advanced monitoring setup.
The application is often slow and unstable. It can be challenging to troubleshoot too and support is awful after they got bought out by the private firm.

What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Service availability is a major monitor we utilize. Providing reactionary alerts to certain thresholds to alert the proper team in our event management software. Tracing application performance problems back to the infrastructure or vindicating infrastructure as a problem and reducing mean time to repair (MTTR).
Recommendations to others considering the product:
If man hours are not a concern, it is a decent product. One man shows should look for a product with more automation and intelligence built in. UI is not very clean. Setting up basic monitoring for servers takes about 15 minutes each if done individually. Bulk discovery tool is very clunky and unreliable.
Easy to use.
What do you like best about the product?
We use this for our server around the state. It is easy to use and wasy to read.
What do you dislike about the product?
For my use there isn't anything to dislike.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Monitering server status.
High potential monitoring software

Bargain priced data monitoring tool which provides many ways to analyze this information. The notifications make it really convenient because it will allow you to know before something happens. Data analysts in our group work together using this software, easily learning and maintaining of it with simplicity.
What do you dislike about the product?
The different pricing options can be rather difficult to choose from, even though the models are straight forward. It just can be different to choose which one would work best for you. Also the web interface is very simple and easy which is good but may need some improvement in terms of customization.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Real time cloud monitoring of data and metrics at all levels of the business. There are many competitors in this space, we just found Librato to be the best match for us. It is fairly price once reviewing the options and really does get you everything you need from it.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
I would suggest just giving it a try, it really has a lot of potential for you at a price point that's more than far comparing to other competitors. Could definitely see this software working at every level whether you are a small business or large, could see being the same amount of help at either.
Excellent for finding application issues

How easy it is to use and the charts and graphs.
What do you dislike about the product?
It can sometimes be slow depending on parameters used.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
When there is a service that is down or high memory utilization.
Practical way to monitor your VM environment
What do you like best about the product?
SolarWinds is an easy tool to monitor your VM environment. I enjoyed customizing my own dashboard. Instantly I could spot any "red" marked VMs, datastores and other VM elements. The reporting tool is so powerful with a large number of preset reports. I loved the capacity planner, it helped me decide and plan ahead of time when to purchase new ESX servers or do a memory upgrade.
What do you dislike about the product?
The appliance upgrade wasn't that straightforward. It should be simplified and done immediately without having to download new image and then import it.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I used SolarWinds virtualization manager for over 4 years.i could monitor over 600 VMware VMs in 3 different vcenters. I enjoyed customizing my own dashboard. The notifications pointed out a number of issues and helped me optimize the environment. The reporting tool was easy to use, and i could quickly export a variety of reports that where helpful to the management.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
This tool is essential for VM admins. It is easy to deploy and customize.
