Greater insight into your slow network!
What do you like best about the product?
Netflow is one of the better solarwinds modules that we use everyday. It brings great insight into your bandwidth and can show you exactly what is going on. It has helped with the age old issue 'the network is slow', as more often than not it is due to bandwidth; and now we can see exactly why it is slow and stop it. The historical information is another great help, as you can see previous bandwidth hogs as to why the network was under performing at a given time.
What do you dislike about the product?
Set up can be a little complex, especially in a complex network. It requires a separate server to run efficiently which isn't always practical or cheap.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It highlights bandwidth hogs and it allows our network to work more efficiently. It helps keep the network performing well and highlights potential issues almost everyday. It also saves us a lot of time in diagnosing a slow network call, which can often be solved in a few minutes.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
If you're looking to save a lot of time hunting network performance issues and slow down, NTA is a fantastic tool and worth the effort of set up and the cost.
Great tool for bandwidth analysis
What do you like best about the product?
This tool is really easy to deploy and easy to use. Just configure your network devices to export netflow data to the NTA server and start displaying traffic information
What do you dislike about the product?
Default dashboards are not great, I always modify them to my liking. That's really easy to do (around 5 minutes).
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Mainly bandwidth analysis problems. Check what applications are using your internet connection. Check how the top talkers are. Check security issues (for example if a SQL server is generating too much SMTP traffic)
Recommendations to others considering the product:
If you don't have any netflow tool and you own a SolarWinds module, this is a no brainer for you.
Solawinds IPAM needs more flow
What do you like best about the product?
the tool is very basic, and can import tab and comma delimited files. It has a built-in IP address scanning tool. It is SNMP enabled and can log new IP's that get discovered with ping sweeps.
What do you dislike about the product?
you need a strong server to be able to run the whole solar winds suite.
IF you don't, it will run at a very low unsatisfactory speed.
IF you don't, it will run at a very low unsatisfactory speed.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
its important to have a tool that can not only track IP addresses, but can import your documentation prior to implementation. If you have tab and comma delimited files, you can import that data.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
needs to be less resource intensive
Solar winds review
What do you like best about the product?
Ability to see current issues in real time.
What do you dislike about the product?
There are limited ways to search SQL which is not complete.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Its a great tool used for analyzing data and performance.
Another way to measure cloud metrics
What do you like best about the product?
Each task is not more than 2 clicks away, I like the fact that the interface gets right down to business with alerts and attributes tab.
What do you dislike about the product?
Not the easiest to use configuration and setup. Not as good as NPM or WUG, but it gets the job done at a lower cost.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are an e-commerce company with the primary focus on protecting our data. I like the fact that this is pay per use based on the number of data streams.
New Software
What do you like best about the product?
Customer Service and the responsiveness of their workers
What do you dislike about the product?
The work going forward but that is with all projects
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Load balancing
Multiple Scenarios
What do you like best about the product?
There is almost no end to the way Solarwinds is able to be configured.
What do you dislike about the product?
Many configurations take a lot to get setup correctly and one little mistake can mess up the entire configuration.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Monitoring critical servers and applications so that we have little to no down time.
Decent experience with Solarwinds
What do you like best about the product?
I like the ability to handle all kinds of alerts in a matter of two clicks or less.
What do you dislike about the product?
I dislike the support team's quality. Often the help comes copy-pasted from their KB articles, so there isn't much personalized help. The service desk ticketing site that it connects to is also a bit slow in syncing up with the dashboard so tickets don't close efficiently even when the alert has gone away.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Patch Management. Remote Access. Managed Antivirus. Disk space checks. Performance Monitoring. All are beneficial. Even when a server is down, we get the alert.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Beware of support. Beware of lag between sync of dashboard and service desk. Glitch between background manager and backup check on dashboard.
Solarwinds NPM
What do you like best about the product?
NPM offers high visibility into your network with a user friendly interface. The product offers a high level of customizability allowing you to honing your monitoring and alerting needs. Getting the product up and running is pretty straightforward. The learning curve comes in when honing your monitoring. Support is responsive and reliable. The Thwack community also offers helps for deployment and management questions. The interface offers loads of charts and graphs allowing you to show how your network and key interfaces are performing.
What do you dislike about the product?
No particular dislikes with the product, however it does take time to deploy as you pull in your network devices. Since licensing is base on the number of elements being monitored (devices and interfaces), you need to be knowledge about what you're monitoring. Charts and graphs can take a little time to tweak to get the data that's relevant to you. Creating custom reports also isn't intuitive however the Solarwinds support is great at assisting you when needed.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Solarwinds offered a centralized location for all team members to analyze performance of the network and related devices, Alerts allowed us to respond to outages quickly and reduce downtime for users. The product delves deep into the network allowing you to spot minor issues before they become user impacting.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Do through research on what you need to monitor as the licensing structure is based on how many devices and interfaces your are monitoring. Signup and get active on the Thwack community as this is a gave resource for getting the product setup.
