Configuration and management of Solarwinds for Enterprise services

  • April 06, 2019
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Ease of use: in a nutshell it's robust easy to install configure and very easy to monitor.
What do you dislike about the product?
I don't like how Importing of old files and configuration, such as old Visio portfolios work. Very specific on the requirements. For us at least making us do a lot of work from scratch.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It is the baseline for capture and continuously monitoring out environment. Automated alerts call technicians in.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
It's a great tool with a large feature set. I would recommend it for large companies.

Good value for the money

What do you like best about the product?
Solarwinds is our main network management and monitoring platform, and NTA is a part of it. Netflow is a essential part of network analysis and troubleshooting, so NTA does what is supposed to do. It also provides more information like CBQoS, which is completely different from netflow but it does help, not many tools offer that option. NTA also drills down to conversations to get specific details about it.
What do you dislike about the product?
NTA has issues with some forms of flow packets that they claim to be compatible, like cflowd. Also, it is not possible to aggregate conversations or traffic from multiple sources, something that you can do with its competitors.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Netflow analysis not only helps to troubleshoot and get specific data, it also provides our Information Security team a source of data to find or detect anomalies in our network traffic.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
It gives you a lot of value for what you pay, but it's getting behind the competition. There are more advanced and not expensive netflow tools in the market. If netflow is the only feature you need it's best to look at other options.

What do you like best about the product?
I do like the auto generated ticketing feature that it sends to us when a site is offline.
What do you dislike about the product?
After the change of the web layout, it’s difficult to find the information needed as it was before. We are now unable to see which SW/port a device is on.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Helps us determine and verify the source of a network issue.

SolarWinds Orion APM

  • February 08, 2019
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
It's very extensive and customizable, allowing for intricate process monitoring for server resources, application performance, and storage capacity, among other KPMs. It's integration with OpsGenie is a nice tough for on the go alerts through the OpsGenie app. It's relatively easy to manage between our admin staff, and robust enough to monitor our hundreds of applications, servers, and components.
What do you dislike about the product?
I would say it's a bit monolithic in it's architecture and complex UI. Sometimes, it's more cumbersome to configure certain things than we'd like. And we would really like to have built-in PowerShell trigger actions, instead of having to shoehorn scripts through the "Execute External Program" trigger action. There also seems to be some performance hits after a couple hundred nodes, primarily in UI load times and log writes to our SW app server.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We use it to monitor our application VM's and networking infrastructure, and has helped us catch incidents before the business is affected, or at least before they start complaining something is down ;) We also primarily like the ability to add custom attributes to our nodes so that we can better categorize them and receive more accurate alerts through OpsGenie. We've been able to record and troubleshoot incidents as they happen by connecting SW to our existing IT management services since we were able to integrate our existing automation into the alert actions we set up.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Definitely useful in larger ecosystems, where you're monitoring nodes across multiple subnets/subdomains.

We Find No Alternative but SolarWinds

  • February 04, 2019

What do you like best about the product?
SolarWinds has the edge with regards to auto-finding gadgets on your system. It is proficient at utilizing SNMP outputs to learn which gadgets are up on your system and can even arrange them on a topology outline. This makes it a lot less demanding for managers to discover what they require in a live checking condition.
What do you dislike about the product?
To set up necessities a great deal to arrange. That is on the grounds that there are a number of modules that can be coordinated. Thusly, it is exceptionally necessitated that one comprehends what modules Orion can coordinate. Thusly, this item is pricy as well. It is vital to invest the energy and get its full utilization. It very well may overpower first and foremost while you are setting things up and very tedious.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The Network Device Monitor is an extraordinary expansion to the determination of free devices SolarWinds offers. Despite the fact that it's plainly intended to advance their full system observing frameworks, it remains without anyone else as a valuable device that can enable you to deal with your system. The Server and Application Monitor (SAM) help screen the wellbeing, accessibility, and execution of your applications and server infrastructure(physical and virtual). SAM cautions you about execution issues, which acts before your end-clients and business administrations are affected.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
While Orion is a mind-blowing device, guarantee you completely comprehend the requirements of a live establishment, before you considerably think about a free preliminary. Whilst you can introduce Orion in assessment on practically any estimated virtual machine or server, the prescribed determinations are not irrelevant, and you should be set up to meet them when you go live. Running Orion on a domain that does not meet the base prescribed detail will prompt a terrible involvement with the item.
