So easy to use
What do you like best about the product?
NPM comes pretty much ready to go. It's easy to set up and get value out of immediately.
What do you dislike about the product?
I can't say there's anything I dislike as of yet.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We use SAM and NPM for basic server monitoring . It was easy to configure and the default templates had us up and running in no time.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Definitely try the 30 day trial and see for yourself how good and easy to use this app is.

Great monitoring tool
What do you like best about the product?
Fairly easy to learn and use, even on the fly. Great support both from a paid support side and from the user community.
What do you dislike about the product?
Tons of different packages and varying requirements per package. Not the only company doing this type of model.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Systems monitoring and performance over time

Understand all that you are wanting to monitor
Love NPM!!
What do you like best about the product?
I love how it puts everything at my fingertips. I can monitor multiples items with less people.
What do you dislike about the product?
The menu to the tabs changed, I am not a big fan on that.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Being able to monitor my network devices

We have been using NPM for two years now and it has helped us numerous times identify network issues even before the customer noticed there was a problem.
What do you dislike about the product?
I would really like to see a way to have IPAM and NPM work together.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We have seen benefits with improved up time and happier customers.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
My role primarily focuses on the SAM side of Solarwinds but I have assisted with configuring some of the network. I recommend downloading a trial and when you sign up, set it up right from the very beginning. If you do not set it up correctly, you will be highly annoyed by the unnecessary alerts. If you set it up correctly, it will help you in the long term to effectively monitor your network.
To be "in the Know" you need the right tools!
What do you like best about the product?
Where to start? Being able to tweak or configure each window (Home, Summary, etc..) for each department in order for them to get the data they need immediately is priceless. Some products I have personally used in the past create more work trying to isolate data or nodes, rather than SolarWinds NPM design negating the need to dig through tomes of unneeded information, the data you need is front and Center.
What do you dislike about the product?
Integration with Fortigate products would be a major improvement, I have heard it is in the works. Custom Colour in Orion would be nice (A Dark Theme)
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
My biggest benefit using NPM has been the ability to ensure Servers, Switches, Routers and other such network devices are operating within normal parameters. I had an issue where on one of our remote switches on a predictable schedule several ports would go down, affecting several of our Staff as well as the Printing. Thanks to the data provided by NPM I was able to isolate the issue to a particular network device that was causing the issue, saving much frustration by myself and the affected staff.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Check the online Demo Site - speak to the sales staff and do a 1 to 1 Demo.

Network visibility is good. Monitor and manage a wide range of devices.

I love SolarWinds Network Performance Monitor and highly recommend it!

Ease of management, integration with other products, NetPath for visibility regarding resources outside our environment
What do you dislike about the product?
I cannot think of the slightest pet peeve.

Visibility regarding internal and external resources - availability, response time, performance both real time and over a designated length of time, related reporting.

Become a Thwack member as there are extensive resources (training videos documentation resolved issues etc.) available for site members.
My NPM experience as a first timer
What do you like best about the product?
This is my first time using SolarWinds and although there is a bit learning curve to get your head around once your in your in. The sheer power of NPM is astounding to me, if I had this in my last few work places my life would have been a whole lot easier. Once you use it on a daily basis you very quickly begin to be able to customise the system to your needs and its power really start to shine.
What do you dislike about the product?
At the moment I dont feel like I have a dislike with NPM.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Over the years of us using SolarWinds we have been able to trouble shoot network issues and maintain network hardware across the board because of the clarity of our network NPM gives our engineers. This has benefited us greatly as countless hours as saved by using NPM and integrating other modules.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
I would recommend to anyone starting out to sign up to Thwack and look through all of their videos, guides and get involved with the community as it really does help.

What do you like best about the product?
The best way is to describe Solarwinds NPM is like a present like you unwrap it and find the goodies inside. NPM also either when you are setting it up or doing a drill down analysis you get everything and everything you need to to
What do you dislike about the product?
Its to customize-able and yo get lost initially of what you have to setup and and for me it was alot of manual work, i would like more automation especially when it comes to alerting, alot of the common alerts so be setup already. MIB's is the biggest pain for me as well like why cant i be easier to work with it.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We used have to go to every device to see what the issue was now we have a big overall picture of the network and you can find the root of the issues very quickly and efficiently,

Make sure you watch the training videos it will really help you out and Thwack is best when you need them!

I like the why you can dig in and find an issue. It has been a big help with customer network slow downs.

Some time I do get lost but that might just be me. I manage the group so I'm not always in it.

Customer slowness is our biggest issues.
