NPM - always have an answer for your network monitoring

What do you like best about the product?
The best part of NPM or SolarWinds is its simple monitoring configuration for straightforward administration. It's an enterprise-level monitoring system that also integrates with other modules. It provides comprehensive information for monitoring and is very easy to implement. It starts monitoring from the moment it is implemented with all default configurations.
What do you dislike about the product?
Sometimes, end users or non-admin users come to me and say that it's difficult to get reports or information in SolarWinds. From an end user's perspective, I can understand the frustration, as in other tools it's just one or two clicks away. However, in SolarWinds, I know it's an enterprise and powerful tool, and sometimes you need to drill down to get simple information.

Another aspect that is needed is topology, so end users can visualize the monitoring system and understand at a glance what is wrong and where the issue is.

I think the dashboard is a place where, if we have an automated topology kind of dashboard or a single pane of dashboard, it would look great.

The newly added NetPath service is great, but sometimes I get requests to have a point-to-point path, meaning from one IP to another IP.

On the network overview, it only has monitored interfaces, but if it included all interfaces, it would be easier to choose what to monitor.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are monitoring all network devices, and it's helping us to perform proactive monitoring or to detect issues much faster.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
If you are looking for enterprise-level monitoring, then SolarWinds is the right choice.

What do you like best about the product?
It allow us to see the overall health of our infrastructure.From switch ports / latency to wireless client connection.

Upgrade need to be easier. It need to provide more flexibility more other network vendor

What do you like best about the product?
Being able to see all nodes with error or issues on one screen.
What do you dislike about the product?
Network maps are somewhat hard to configure and not having the ability to layer maps.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Single screen to see issues and the ability to drill down into the node for greater visibility

What do you like best about the product?
I like that I'm able to monitor all my switches in one location. I am able to setup alerts or quickly view issues when I login.
What do you dislike about the product?
For me its setting up the graphics/charts and pulling up the statistics for certain items.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It's great to have all you devices under one software to monitor. That is the biggest benefit of having the software, but seeing the health of the devices and what is going on within the network is what I like the most.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Setup the Trial Version first and read up on it to learn some of the in's and out's.

What do you like best about the product?
It is arguably the most user friendly network tool
What do you dislike about the product?
Syslog Viewer and Trap Viewer are quite outdated. Also, cannot easily turn web reports into SQL scripts
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We rely on NPM exclusively for monitoring health and availability for over 150 offices in the USA and many others around the world.

What do you like best about the product?
Summary dashboard makes it easy to spot problem areas in the network. Thwack community is great.
What do you dislike about the product?
Sales people are very aggressive. Customer support can be very slow.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
24/7 monitoring and alerting of our systems around the word.

What do you like best about the product?
What i like best is that NPM can give you a snap shot of your entire network, from networking equipment to servers. Giving you the tools the troubleshoot and fix just about any issue. It can be a performance issue, or it could be a a bottle neck someplace on your network.
What do you dislike about the product?
I don't have a issue with the product, it does everything it's expected to do, and constantly comes out with new functionality.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are a managed service provider, NPM allows us to monitor our customers network 24/7

What do you like best about the product?
Solarwinds gives us the ability to track all our network nodes, go back in time and assists in finding out what is causing a network bottleneck. there are a ton of features that come out of the box and has the ability to get customized to your hearts content. it has built in support for tracking wireless controllers other appliances. really great community on Thwack, you can get almost everything you want if you look hard enough.. but it may just take time to implement :)
What do you dislike about the product?
Some things don't really work the way you expect them to.. like the Poll now button.. running some jobs can really take a while. sometimes the page loads very slowly and i have noticed that if a page requests too many resources it can affect the experience of other users as well. other than the occasional service stopping, it seems to be reliable.

the technical support hold music is also pretty bland
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We can make reports detailing circuit utilization over time, this gives us the necessary justification for upgrading. it has pretty decent reports for inventory and firmware versions. you can also make reports with SQL.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
be ready to spend time troubleshooting : )
it's good to have people that are already experienced with the tool, as it can be a little bit overwhelming to someone who hasn't used it. You also may want to spend time with your users and ask them what they want to see in dashboards.

NPM makes it really easy to add / monitor / and alert on all things in your network.
What do you dislike about the product?
Upgrades were sometimes difficult in the past but that has been remedied with the single offline installer.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It puts everything network in one place to see the status of our entire infrastructure.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
If you want easy to use software that's reasonably priced for monitoring your network NPM is it.
