What do you like best about the product?
User friendly platform for managing exemption certificates, customers, and more.
What do you dislike about the product?
Periodic mishaps with the reporting software resorting in Plan B's for sales tax prep.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Large transactional tax need is being addressed by SOVOS which reduces the amount of hands on for our department personnel.

Review of Sovos tax software for Sales Tax
What do you like best about the product?
They had a good implementation team that took time to understand what our products were and what needed to be looked at for taxability.
What do you dislike about the product?
Software could be overwhelming if not using the canned reports. Also coding and categorizing needs may not match products exactly.

What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Categorizing and assessing sales tax on items sold for each state. They compile and file the tax returns based each states due date. We are understaffed to be able to research each tax situation and collect all the data to do the filing. This service is great for our operation.
Pros and Cons working with SOVOS
What do you like best about the product?
Sovos currently files all of our state returns each month/quarter. They are done timely and my rep is very responsive and easy to work with. Regarding their technical help, at least one tech is excellent to work with and will solve most issues, if I can connect with him.
What do you dislike about the product?
The initial set up was very costly, with our company being charged every time we called for assistance or were ready to set up new state jurisdiction. This was above and beyond the initial fee. Also, we use Net Suite and the two systems (Sovos GTD and NetSuite) are not working well together in identifying those clients that are tax exempt and have exemption certificates loaded, requiring us to manually override any transactions to suppress sales tax. There is also an issue with SOVOs over riding the tax calculation made by our retail web site, changing the Cash Receipt with it is imported into NS, causing it to not match the initial sale $'s on our website. The difference is usually pennies, but it does cause reconciliation problems

Keeps our system tax rate calculation current with state changes for better compliance, time savings when they file our returns with the states and ease of reporting regarding sales tax for each state and jurisdiction.

Sometimes customer service is hard to get glad we have direct contacts also

What do you like best about the product?
Marvin is an incredible partner. He's calm, logical and very, very patient. His support has been invaluable in the time that I have been working on issues. He's an advocate for his customers.
What do you dislike about the product?
There have been some issues. I think the biggest one is because the cloud solution on the Sovos side was set up for cloud ERP, at our request. When we stayed with our on prem ERP, the Sovos set up, think, remained as if we were cloud ERP. I can understand why. It just caused some issues in the past. Now we know to tell everyone that we're different when we ask for support.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Sovos calculates the sales and use tax for us. That means that we don't have to keep up with the constant tax changes as Sovos does this. That enables us to be in compliance with less in-house specialized knowledge about sales and use tax.
Sovos Integrations are Simple to Use
What do you like best about the product?
The most helpful thing is the simplicity and the ease of access. Sovos is easy to use because of the simple navigation and UI. The upsides to using Sovos are convenience and having a neat way to integrate important documents into your accounting system.
What do you dislike about the product?
I primarily use Sovos for Resale Certificates. The only problems I encounter when adding an account to Sovos are if I make a mistake when entering the state, I have to change the expiration date to get it to wipe that entry. If I want to add multiple new accounts at the same time, I have to open a new tab to accomplish it; the website does not allow me to back out and start from scratch quickly.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Sovos allows our accounting software to automatically update the tax totals on our sales orders. This benefits me tremendously; having to do this manually would be unthinkably time-consuming.

What do you like best about the product?
I started working on Sovos this past February. It was my first time trying this software, and I was impressed with how many ways there are to load the information.
The best part is that you can work your financials in an excel workbook and import them in Sovos within seconds. You can also import PDFs. You can copy the previous statement or create a new one. It's just so easy and flexible.

What do you dislike about the product?
So far, I can't say anything wrong about the software. The customer service has also been great. Every time I had an issue, I would get help within 1 hour from them. This makes it a great platform and a great company.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Sovos is the software we use for the statutory statements. I can map it directly from the TB and prepare the statements in a day. I think this is the dream for every accountat.
