Best free hosting platform. Incredibly easy to use.

What do you like best about the product?
It's completely free and really great for small scale apps. It does put your app to sleep and reboot takes time but it's just 4 commands to get set up with and completely free.
What do you dislike about the product?
The reboot. Unfortunately they put your app to sleep if it's unused for a while and reboot takes a while. This is only on the free version though.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Deploying websites! Benefits are that I'm able to have a full stack MERN app deployed for free!
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Nothing much! It's very easy to set up so I'd definitely recommend trying it to see if it fits your use case.

Best PaaS for all Cloud Apps management

What do you like best about the product?
Heroku is one of the easiest plaform where we can deploy our apps , websites for completely free.It supports codes of many languages like python,C,node, ruby, java etc.Heroku supports github integration. It is a paradise for hobbyists where we can build ,run and scale for free. However, paid services are also available if it needs more load handling and extra features
What do you dislike about the product?
Heroku free Dyno resets every one hour. You need to upgrade to paid plan for more Dyno hours. Also most of the heroku free apps will stop by 20th of the month. But it can be bypassed if you add a credit card for verification purposes
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It is a very handy service when it comes to telegram bot deployment .More than 80% of telegram bots are deployed on heroku .Heroku has never said a no for legal personal use of their platforms. It is also a very reliable cloud service and offers various features like realtime log monitoring , transferring ownership, add collaborators ,switch off Dyno when not in use.Overall an excellent service
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Best Cloud Service provider in the industry .Free, Build, Deploy and Scale. Best PaaS for developers to test apps. Supports website related deployments too

The best choice on the market for managed services

  • May 25, 2021
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The development pipeline, and the app marketplace. You can literally deploy your app from staging to production in just one click. Also, you can link a new database or any service your app needs in just a click, like loggers, monitors, etc.
What do you dislike about the product?
The only downside of heroku is the lack of native rust lang running. You can run a lot of languages natively on heroku like go, python, node, java, but not rust. Our team using rust more often, and we would like to deploy rust code on heroku without docker. Currently we have to dockerize it to run on heroku
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The CI is just amazing. We don't have to worry about databases and other services, we just add one from the marketplace and we're done. We have reduced our devops hours by 75%.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Like any other service, you can't tell if heroku will be good for you, if you don't try it. Start your next project by deploying it to heroku staging, and manage the pipeline via heroku pipeline. You will see the benefits real fast. Also it is fairly cheap if you compare it with other managed solutions on the market.

Infrastructure for those who don't want to worry about infrastructure

  • May 07, 2021
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
- easy setup
- easy scaling of platform
- community and plugin support is fantastic
- support is very helpful
What do you dislike about the product?
- with standardization, you lose customizability
- not every possible configuration is supported
- permission and extension restrictions on some plugins, like heroku postgres
- can get expensive to scale vertically (bigger machines) instead of horizontally (more machines)
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
we're a startup, so our business goal is to increase product iteration speed without worrying about the infrastructure needed to support it. with heroku, we don't need to think too much about how our product changes will affect the infrastructure - not because that's not important, but because we can ship and unship product changes without having to make permanent changes to our infrastructure. this lets us move forward quickly even with a small development team. if you're a 500-person tech team, maybe you have the bandwidth to work on your own infrastructure and the marginal benefits of custom builds outweigh the costs, but for us, heroku gives us the right trade-off between customizability and scalability.

Heroku the best place to host you webapp

  • January 14, 2021
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Heroku is one of the best platforms to host your web app. I support almost every possible backend language. Apart from that, you can host up to 4-5 web apps for free on your free tier. And it is very simple to use. If you have a little bit of knowledge about how the git command-line interface works you can easily use this. Alo you can manage your app with the bash terminal and can log if there is any issue or error in the web app. Maintaining and scaling your web app is very simple for you with Heroku. I have personally hosted all my web apps on Heroku. And the documentation is also very clear so there won't be any hassle for you in using this product.
What do you dislike about the product?
There is nothing to dislike about this software.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
After using this it was very easy to host my web apps like node, react, flask, etc. And maintaining and managing them had also become very easy. This was the first platform that I used and it so much suited me that I did not think of changing this anytime.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Yes

Abysmal and predatory practices. A large beaucratic mess.

What do you like best about the product?
It's easy to set up and does what it says on the tin generally. Easy enough PaaS provider. The problems arise when you have contractual issues or need support...
What do you dislike about the product?
Long story short, they will try to trap you with contracts - for example, rolling an annual contract even if you're talking to support ahead of time about amending or cancelling it. Do not trust them or rely on good faith. In true American style, common sense, compassion and clear business need cannot supercede their contracts and hunger for money. You can try and fight them afterwards, but when &^%$ hits the fan and you need to reason with a human being, it will not happen.

Our case detailed below:

We have been terribly hit by Covid (travel tech business) and so our traffic fell off a cliff a month or two before our contract renewal was due. We were actively in discussions with their team about how we could adjust our usage accordingly. As we were coming close to a resolution that would save us a load of cash, they suddenly said 'oh, too late, your contract has rolled over so we can't make any changes, you have to pay for x dynos even if you don't use them'. We pointed out that this was ridiculous, given that we were literally talking to their support team when it happened.

Feeling fed up, we researched alternatives and had an option available that stood to save the business an amount that could be crucial to our survival. After explaining this to our rep and asking what reasonable provisions there were to simply pay for what we'd used and end the contract (which shouldn't have been rolled anyway) they immediately jumped to threatening us and saying that if we didn't pay for the full contract then they'll send debt collectors!

We found this highly inappropriate and asked to speak to their manager. What followed was a circus of escalations and beaucracy, all amounting to different levels of people blaming processes as to why we couldn't simply pay for what we'd used and cancel the contract (which, again, shouldn't in good faith have rolled in the first place). Eventually they offered a very small concession (we'd still have to pay for more than we were using) but no reasonable exit provisions.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
PaaS is relatively useful, avoids dev ops hires - though AWS has low-management options now-a-days.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Do not use it. They do not value customer experience over enforcing contracts and making money in the short term.

If you must, be EXTREMELY careful of their contracts and roll-over dates. Even if you're in active discussions to cancel/amend with their support, their roll-over dates are still iron-clad.

Bear in mind that they will NEVER let you exit a contract, even if a once in a lifetime global pandemic pauses your business for a year and you're making 0 revenue...

What do you like best about the product?
interface is simple and intuitive and the support team is great
What do you dislike about the product?
not much it's straight forward and easy to use, maybe more features and flexibility + security add-ons like AWS would be nice
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
server distribution/hosting and app employment at our company
