Data Engineering Manager

  • December 15, 2022
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Ease of use, not having to manage the infrastructure. It makes creating pipelines a breeze.
What do you dislike about the product?
Nothing really, coming form MWAA there are so many more benefits with Astronomer.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Observability into pipeline failures, warehouse ingestion processes, and teaching devs from other teams to create efficient data pipelines.

Astronomer Review

  • December 14, 2022
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Onboarding was smooth, Astronomer representatives were very responsive and knowledgeable in helping us resolve our issues. Our Cloud instances never experienced any downtime or interruptions. It was very easy to integrate CI/CD. The documentation is excellent.
What do you dislike about the product?
NA . . .
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
They helped us deploy Airflow in a production environment much faster than we could have done ourselves or from using another provider.

Astronomer is just right for us

  • December 14, 2022
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Astronomer makes Airflow deployments easy, so we don't spend time reinventing the wheel and doing infrastructure/admin tasks. We can focus on just our particular use cases and ignore the rest!
What do you dislike about the product?
The billing model - since we're charged per task, I find myself writing DAGs in a way to minimize tasks, when multiple tasks might make the job easier to observe/troubleshoot.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The business problem Astro solves is a managed Airflow deployment. We had tried a managed Airflow deployment from a major cloud provider and it had many glaring issues that weren't workable in a collaborative, production setting.

Start writing DAG instead of debugging celery workers

  • December 13, 2022
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
- Get started with Airflow quickly
- Great learning resources created by Astronomer
- The Astro CLI enables an easy local development process
- Easy CI/CD through GitHub action
- Don't need to worry too much about the infrastructure
What do you dislike about the product?
- The pricing tier based on task runs limits the use cases for Airflow if you are not at scale.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
- Enable your small data engineering team to start writing DAGs quickly without the need to figure out how to set up, host, or scale Airflow.
- Enable the deployment of Airflow in our VPC to comply with our industry security standards.

Overall, excellent experience and customer support. Highly recommend.

What do you like best about the product?
Up to date w/ latest Airflow version/features, hands-on onboarding and 1:1 customer support, and plethora of great resources (docs, tutorials, examples, and registry)
What do you dislike about the product?
Compatibility/dependency issues with some common packages (e.g. DBT integration) and the work arounds. For a long time, the dev iteration cycle was almost too slow to make it worth it (until v6.0.4 I believe).
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Analytics/data processing

A white glove experience for integrating Airflow

  • December 12, 2022
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I don't need to know dev ops or data engineering. I can stick with python code and have top of the line orchestration without having to worry about servers and clusters and everything that blocks me from doing my job as a data scientist. Astronomer has a great push-button solution and wonderful support.
What do you dislike about the product?
The pricing by task makes me not want to use Airflow to its best capability. I am writing inefficient DAGs with monolithic tasks so that I don't spend too much of our spend on modularized tasks.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Airflow is a nightmare to setup and upkeep. Astronomer is taking all of the setup and infrastructure and letting me just worry about the code and pipeline. I now am off of Microsoft Scheduler and have much better control and monitoring of my data pipelines without having to hire a data engineer or dev ops person.

What do you like best about the product?
The Astro by Astronomer is a well-engineered product with the flexibility to use
The talent at Astronomer makes the process as smooth as possible
The team is supportive and very knowledgeable
What do you dislike about the product?
The experience of using astronomer for the migration of existing DAGs and new developments has been great, and all positive.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Migration of existing pipelines to Astronomer and continuing new development using Astronomer

Fantastic Support While Onboarding

  • December 10, 2022
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The support we received from Victoria Varney and Philippe Gagnon has been incredible while we're migrating over to astro (we're about 50% there - and would not be without Victoria and Philippe's patience and time to get us here). The astro ui, ability to dynamically spin up environments for various teams / use cases, and not having to worry about the infra is important to me as a data leader.
What do you dislike about the product?
Currently the only downside was the security hoops we had to go through to get everything connected properly in order for our initial dags to run. Once that was set up we had to tackle how to migrate our home grown packages but we finally got there, and now the migration is smooth.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Infrastructure management; environment management. Our current airflow (ec2 in aws) constantly goes down due to capacity and we don't have a cloud engineer on staff.

Airflow Made Easy

  • December 08, 2022
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The Astronomer customer success team was extremely helpful throughout the onboarding process and was always available to help answer questions. Astronomer as a product has made our hosting of Airflow smooth and especially simplified local developer experiences.
What do you dislike about the product?
Astro still has room for improvement in the IAC (infrastructure-as-code) space. Being able to do things like edit user access through code would be helpful, as well as more granular permission-based user controls.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Astro does a great job of abstracting away a lot of the headache and ops around setting up Airflow deployments. They make spinning up new instances as well as monitoring existing instances very straightforward.
