WSO2 API Manager

  • May 24, 2022
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
In the opensource API Management space WSO2 API Manager has evolved as one of the leading solutions. It’s a platform to build and manage APIs with ease. This solution is fully equipped with designing, developing, publishing, securing, monetizing and managing functionalities for APIs of different nature. It provides full API lifecycle management features covering Governance, Security, Developer portal and Analytics. It supports REST and SOAP APIs development. It supports on-prem and cloud deployment model
What do you dislike about the product?
The available documentation is very good. But finding the required article is bit tricky.
Handling API groups in publisher is not straightforward
Need improvement on Developer portal interface
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
In our environment, WSO2 API Manager is being used for various telecom use cases like:

Published APIs for third party developer community. The benefit of the throttling feature is two-fold, this feature is securing the API interface from the high volume of unnecessary traffic and also functioning as key feature in the monetization of APIs.

WSO2 API Manager is providing an additional layer in front of WSO2 EI. All the requests are received at API Manager layer first and then goes down to EI layer through internal secure network

AI Powered API Management with WSO2 API Manager

  • May 23, 2022
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
WSO2 API Manager has been significantly enhanced the product capabilities with industry standards. The latest release of WSO2 API Manager v4.5 has come up with API powered capabilities like- Create an API with design assistant, API chat to test the API, AI powered multi-model routing for different AI APIs definitely helps in optimal resource utilization. BYOG i.e. bring your own gateway support with WSO2 API manager is like a magic bullet to integrate existing gateways like AWS API Gateway or any custom one. We have tested out the feature and it work seamlessly.

I have also found the improvements in existing capabilities like role-based access control, improved logging and observability, auditing and API documentation. So now your API creator and publisher can see the key parameters missing while creating and publishing an API and that's a big move towards standardization of APIs.

GraphQL APIs creation has been simplified with the latest release.

The latest tutorials on their LMS portal (lms.wso2.com) is updated, so developers can quickly engage with the training and start using the features.
What do you dislike about the product?
Migration process can be improved. For API mocking capabilities are still lagging which is available in other platforms. Version 4.x is completely revamped, and I observed the backward compatibility is challenging. Devportal customization can be simplified.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are solving the problem of API management i.e. we had a use case where we needed to expose the business services via a secured layer with solid governance. We have deployed WSO2 API Manager and it has helped & benefited in the following ways-
1. Easy adoption; minimal effort to deploy WSO2 APIM
2. I have implemented fine-grained access control via scopes and has worked perfectly
3. WSO2 APIM has helped to secure more than 100 services with different types of cyber attacks.
4. WSO2 APIM provides centralized control on internal as well as external APIs
Recommendations to others considering the product:
If you are planning for any API Management & Integration solution, WSO2 is the right choice which you can try at Zero cost. So I would suggest deploying WSO2 APIM and checking out the product features and doing some proof-of-concept as well. This will give more confidence towards product adoption.

great platform for advanced users

  • August 16, 2020
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Even I'm pretty new to wso2 am, I can say it opened me a world with solutions for publishing APIs and its security. I like the simplicity (only when you really learn how to use it :) ) of the use of this technology. The platform is really transparent and easy to use, even if you are a begginer, the only problem is configuration the rest is not a problem. I don't know other technologies for publishing APIs, but from my experience this platform is for sure a good solution to what you need.
What do you dislike about the product?
Well, I can say, only by reading the documentation on the site you really can't say you will know how to resolve all the problems you are facing with, because it has its own terminology. I think you need some good course to pass before you start using it. When you need to find the solution to your problems usually you will search it on the internet, but I found little or nothing, so the documentation will be your best friend :)
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I was given the task from my company to resolve and create the interceptor class, that will intercept all calls towards the APIs that are published, so I can manage some user profile security and give back the results based on user's data associated in database. I couldn't know how to do that only based on documentation, it wasn't so obvious that I had to look for handler class, as though I'm a self learner it was a bit difficult to find some answers, but in the end I resolved it. The greatest benefit of this platform is that you can manage and even publish your APIs in only a couple of minutes, so it's really quick and easy to use.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
From my humble experience I can say wso2 am can be a really useful tecnology if you have some knowledge about how to use it. It gives simple and secure solutions to what you need. If you want to get this knowledge before start using it there are really good courses that you can buy (or your company for you), the only thing about courses I found on internet is that they are very expensive, but I think it's worth every money. If you don't get any course before start using it, try to find someone that has already experience with thins technology to help you, especially with configuration, the rest is easy by following only the documentation.
