It originally allowed us to schedule priorities in a department that did not have a scheduling program already. Since than we have advanced it to be used in multiple departments to set schedules, track job progression, monitor outside partner progress, and share information will all involved parties.
Smartsheet - a complete document solution
What do you like best about the product?
What I like best is that it's similar to Excel with the cells, but superior in that you can save documents and index things so much more. This makes sharing documents far easier and makes it superior to, for example, Dropbox because you can index everything. Uploading and downloading documents is very easy, and can be done on computer, phone or tablet.
You can also have multiple sheets open at the same time, so no need to open and close different project sheet time and time again.
There are a lot of different features and templates that can be used, so you can have Gant chart programmes, assign works to specific people for specific reasons, create document control smartsheets, create financial smartsheets. These can be saved, and updated to suit additional works and at the end kept as a record on smartsheet.

We put together documentation for buliding sites, including manuals, Site forms and financial spreadsheets. Smartsheets allows for multiple sheets to be set up for projects, allowing for programming, task related programming, the transfer and saving od key documents such as drawings, mnauals, timesheets, and also the building of site manuals at the end.
This means wherever I am, I am able to access key project information on a laptop, tablet or even phone to ensure the works are up to date.

I have been able to automated HR processes as time off and vacation requests. Also We have implemented some automation in the hiring process for temporary staff members as we usually hire over 400 temporary staff members per quarter. An automated contract request process brought a lot of efficiency to the HR team making the hiring process easier for all of the areas of our organization. Other area tha has benefit a lot from our smartsheet implmentation is the Ops and Logistics. We have been able to automated several processes in Ops and Logistics department as "field visit resource request" and "emergency funds request". All of these automation have increased our Internal Control and now we are able to be more transparent by showing the organization information to different stakeholders through the use of the Dashboards. With the created Dashboards our audince can have access at a glance and on one site to all of our on the field operations and status of the HR processes. When as an organization we need to quickly collect information from a lot of people our go to is Smarsheet forms to capture that information. After the databases are feed by the forms we can analyze the data, this has made our decision making process more expedite.
Is a great way to schedule with a few downsides

I like the ease of seeing the critical path of all the projects. It is a great communication tool to estimate the time required for the project.

It is hard to start a project calendar with the available templates. It is not intuitive to create the sheets.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We use it primarily to communicate to upper management the status and lead time of all the projects that lead to the completion. It helps to see and visualize the requirements and why a specific date is expected.

Great Product
What do you like best about the product?
Very versatile tools and views; easy to get started, good templates! This is honestly one of the easiest tools I have used to manage projects.
What do you dislike about the product?
Would be very helpful to build more robust timelines that are exportable to slides to present to clients. We have had to purchase other software for this. Some examples would be: roadmaps, customer facing timelines vs. gantt chart exports
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are running all of our client facing projects with Smartsheets.
The next step towards total data organization
What do you like best about the product?
In my role as an insurance agent, I rely on Smartsheet daily to make updates as new appetites and insurance programs are introduced. Smartsheet has become our primary tool because its ribbons, column headers, and the recently updated vertical sheet navigation on the left side make editing tasks flow seamlessly.
Even if I go some time without accessing certain sheets—like 'Program Appetite Guide', 'New Business Prospects', 'Carrier Contact List', or the various client claim file sheets, each with their own unique content and layout—I find it easy to get back up to speed. Within just a few minutes, I can reacquaint myself with any differences. Smartsheet receives frequent updates, and each one brings new features while preserving the aspects that set it apart from a standard Excel spreadsheet.

What do you dislike about the product?
The permissions required to edit or add new columns sometimes restrict my ability to make changes that I would normally handle during a typical workday. This often means I have to rely on teammates who might not be in the office or actively using Smartsheet at that moment. Additionally, it seems that columns do not retain their resized widths from previous sessions, and any adjustments I make are not saved—unless there is a setting I am missing. This results in extra time spent preparing the sheet before I can actually review the data.
Finally, while this is a minor complaint, I find it a bit discouraging to create a new spreadsheet from scratch. My ideas often don't fit any of the available template suggestions, such as forms, reports, grids, dashboards, or timelines. As a result, I usually end up reusing the same sheet, which can cause the data to become cluttered and overused.

The primary issues this addresses involve organizing information and data from clients, claims, loss details, insurance companies providing coverages, coverage types, and the influx of new appetite materials such as underwriting guidelines, all within a well-integrated environment. This integration streamlines the daily operations of a commercial insurance agency, making tasks easier without interfering with other essential programs like Outlook, the agency management portal, Excel, Teams, Acrobat, or any other tools that might otherwise clutter the workspace. It also enhances my ability to quickly access important details that might have been difficult to locate or would have taken an hour or more to find using separate systems.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
There are plenty of exciting built-in features that contain pre-designed code/programming to get you up and running quicker. You can feel rest assured that knowing the Excel programming language is not required to enjoy using Spreadsheets.
Good for project planning collaboration
What do you like best about the product?
- collaborating online
- seeing who changed what cell, who accessed the document
- ability to send automatic reminders
- dashboarding on a project status
- ability to create automated tasks like sending an email when there's a new row entered (useful when you make an open portal where people can add a new request to the team)

What do you dislike about the product?
- the ways to present data is not always easy, especially if you want to make it a cardboard
- the different types of licensing sometimes make it confusing who can edit or not a file
- lacking some format automation when having children on a row, it needs a tweak to make a conditional formating
- formatting specific text within a cell is not possible without formatting the whole cell
- the gantt view is ugly, there really should be something done about this, cannot copy paste it in any presentation
- formulas are tricky to make, there are some things I really can't get a grasp of after 3 years using it still
