For general tracking, not a bad tool
What do you like best about the product?
For tracking across multiple sheets or tracking as you would with Excel, this app is awesome. The amount of data you can manipulate across the sheets is head and shoulders above the competitors I've used.
What do you dislike about the product?
The add-ons can add up, which can make it a tougher sell for full department integration. It's also not as intuitive as I would hope for more of the frills - color coding items, categorizing. You can do it but it takes a bit more time than competitors
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
With the help of Smartsheet, we built out a robust tracking system for our needs. It's been great. I look forward to seeing how it helps our leadership team to better track department status and budgets. The integration of DataMesh and Pivot has already been an excellent boost for budget tracking.
Centralized, but UI is a miss
What do you like best about the product?
Change history and seeing who viewed/updated. Chat/tagging
What do you dislike about the product?
Wish there were more formulas that are found in Excel, in addition to have individual cells have different attributes - such as a checkbox, different drop down options - those make it easier for a checklist with different variables.
Making dependencies is difficult since it requires formulas.
Formatting is horrendous - we still have to use emails for communications. If the formatting was better we would have better adoption. Unfortunately we are looking into other services like Asana that have a more user-friendly userface.

Centralized project tracking - agenda, status/progress, forms. It helps keep people accountable.
Smartsheet as Operations workflow tool
What do you like best about the product?
Flexibility and inter-operation between sheets as well as portal functions
What do you dislike about the product?
Some inter-operations between sheets need enhancements, and formula variables are incomplete.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We use Smartsheets as central repository for documents and comments relating to specific projects and then combine the projects in a portal to see and adjust schedules and project interactions. So we solve the problem of having a central place everyone can look to see/track workflow and status on a specific project or overall schedule. Since we also use it as a doc repository, it is also the first place to look for a specific document or milestone on a project.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Make sure you test/learn Smartsheets long enough to get a through understanding of the inter-operation of multiple sheets as well as implementing a portal. It can definitely do things that other alternatives can't accomplish.
Fantastic Project Management Tool
What do you like best about the product?
If you are in need of a project management tool that can be accessed and utilized by both internal and external people who work with your organization on projects, this is a great collaborative tool that provides full visibility to track project status. With an Excel format, most people are familiar with how to use the tool at a basic level but with some training (which is provided for free by SmartSheet), users can set up sheets that are much more complex and include automation to assist with workflow. The automation and notifications help to reduce back and forth communications that are often done via email and result in bottlenecks. We use Smartsheet within our department as well as cross-department for large projects where numerous individuals are working collectivly on a project to streamline workflows. I also like the dashboards that can be created to provide quick visual represntations of project completion, etc.
What do you dislike about the product?
Sometimes it is time-consuming to set up a sheet; however, that work is always worth it in the end. Sometimes you have to put in the work upfront to reduce additional labor moving forward.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Working on collaborative projects, Smartsheet has helped our team become more efficient, hold people accountable, and provide full visibility into the status of all moving parts.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
If you have projects that involve a lot of people and need to solution to manage the project, organize related assets, and house everything in one, easy to find area then Smartsheet is for you. This tool saves improve efficiency and helps manage people and projects with automation and collaboration.
Smartsheets - Managing the project instead of managing the tool
What do you like best about the product?
The ability to share content and not vendor specific and no client needed to share.

The inability to copy between folders and workspaces.
Cut and paste features can be restrictive. The abiility to import portions of project plan templates and still retain the properties of the original Project Plan can be a little confusing.

Providing a central repository for all project managers to access project information across multiple project domains. Ability to share templates and project content across the company and inter company sharing as well. Providing templates to all PMs to encourage a standardized approach to all project efforts

What do you like best about the product?
The range of possibilities with how Smartsheet can be customized seems almost endless, if you can think of something you want there's probably a way to make it happen. Dashboards are super useful both as a way to visualize data from our master spreadsheet, but also as a way to set up our company "hub" of resources and links all in one place. Another really useful feature is the ability to set up automated workflows. This makes my work more efficient because as one example, I have it set up so that when I change the status of a line to "Ready to invoice", this action automatically sends an email to my bookkeeper so that she knows to send an invoice to that customer, without me having to communicate with her in real time. This is super helpful because our team works remotely and I'm in a different time zone, so it's sometimes difficult to communicate with the team via phone call. **UPDATED 2022: Our company has continued to grow very rapidly and we have implemented some external software solutions which I have been able to integrate into our existing Smartsheet platform. This has given us the ability to learn FAR more about our processes (both in the field and in the office) which has helped us pinpoint bottlenecks and inefficiencies so that processes can be revamped.
What do you dislike about the product?
Nothing! I used to have limitations with formulas, but I have continued to learn about that through Smartsheet's published resources and community forums, and I have also taken advantage of one-on-one feedback sessions with Smartsheet pros who have helped me analyze and improve my setup!
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The ability to analyze our job data had a huge impact on some key business decisions we made as far as expanding our territory, where to invest marketing dollars, etc. It has streamlined our office process by the ability to set up automated workflows. It's basically the "brain" of our company. Every Monday morning in our management meeting, we review some of our dashboards to make sure we're staying on top of all our active jobs, and where they're at in the estimating/production/invoicing/insurance billing process. There are a lot of complicated processes in our billing and workflow, so it's really nice to have a way to track all of that at once. As we have scaled (we now have two franchise locations and are looking to open a third) Smartsheet has been critical to identify how each location is performing so we can strategically manage our growth.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
If you don't have experience in Excel formulas or that type of thing, it would be wise to take advantage of the extra assistance you can get from Smartsheet in setting up your organization's solutions. I did it myself because I enjoy this type of thing but Smartsheet also offers help to their customers to figure out configurations that will work for your company.
Great overall experience
What do you like best about the product?
I like how there is a plethora of resources and templates for almost any type of project we may have. When I had a question, it is fairly easy to find the correct solution and there are so many forums where people share their questions and comments - it improves the overall experience.
What do you dislike about the product?
There are a few things that Excel can do that Smartsheet cannot, and I wish Smartsheet had even more functionality built in, similar to Excel. Sometimes I feel like I have to find work-arounds instead of actually having the solution embedded directly.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We mostly have project management pieces to solve, and we use everything from contracts and payments, to Gantt charts, calendars, deliverables, etc. We have seen an increased efficiency. And maybe even more important is we eliminated some gaps in personnel having to double check everything - the automatic reminders, notifications and alerts have been incredibly useful.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
When researching other project management software, definitely look at what is needed - Smartsheet seems to be just better overall.

What do you like best about the product?
The collaboration tools - ways to share information and set automatic triggers and alerts to gather information or provide transparency into a project without the hassle of long email threads and correspondence (that may or may not go to the correct people)
What do you dislike about the product?
Lack of simple integrations with other software applications - such as our Accounting system and Service management tools.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Project and Customer management: We not only use Smartsheet for Project planning but also for Customer Meeting notes and collaboration - action items are simple to pull out of a report and all parties are made aware of updates immediately.
Internal Communication: We use Smartsheet to keep track of team tasks and updates - this has eliminated the time consuming need of taking meeting notes in a document and distribution of those meeting notes via email and manual requests for follow up.
Issue and Change Management: We use Smartsheet now to track service and change requests. These sheets are easily exported into a report for all to view on a Team Dashboard - keeps the team current on all customer reported requests and issues.
Scheduling Resources: We use Smartsheet to organize our resources and team and schedule technicians accordingly - this eliminated the need to send an excel spreadsheet to each Project Manager and have them fill in fields where we shared the final sheet as a team and then tweaked as needed. This was not only time consuming but the collaboration needed between managers was lacking. Now we can real time update the schedule and send notifications and requests to all managers through the Smartsheet schedule.

Vast functionality but simple to use. Smartsheet offers clear direction and options on what and how information is shared with others. Could not go back to life without it.
Smartsheet Review
What do you like best about the product?
Smartsheet is widely known as a PM tool (an excellent one at that). For our organization, I believe we pushed data input and automations to the max, leading us to learn about functionality that isn't widely advertised in the system. Including premium features, Smartsheet is relatively simple to understand from a building and admin standpoint. My favorite feature by far is automating consistency between data sets on multiple sheets (via formulas and DataMesh). Our use case has been unusual, but Smartsheet has been able to handle most of the curves we've thrown at it.
What do you dislike about the product?
Chances are, if you want Smartsheet to do something outside of tracking a project, you'll have to upgrade your account. We went through a series of premium upgrades when finding out our current subscription would only get us so far. Main pain points were limitations in sharing, integration and data intake.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It has allowed us to compile information gathering processes into one place for information consistency, replacing multiple points of entry.

Better Integration

What do you like best about the product?
It allows me to easily collaborate the partners I work with in different states. We can each access and update our information in live time, allowing us to easily see any changes.
What do you dislike about the product?
It would be nice to have the option to copy and paste between smartsheet and excel. Sometimes I don't need to import a whole sheet, only a few items. Would be nice to copy them out of one document into this.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I am able to keep accurate records of details and submissions via web forms. As well as share live updates across the board with those not in my organization. This is helpful when collaborating on tracking sheets.
