Airtable useful for GLAM
What do you like best about the product?
In the GLAM (Galleries, Libraries, Archives, Museums) sector, there are plenty of competing programs to use for collections organization, acquisition, project management, etc. In the academic library I work for as an exhibit designer, Airtable has proven to be the most useful at keeping track of tasks, loans, and due dates. We also use Airtable as a form, so people can propose exhibits that then get put into our workflow queue. The automation function is particularly useful because it means those proposals get automatically sent to the appropriate e-mail accounts. I use Airtable everyday and I recommend it to others. We've easily integrated it into our workflow.
What do you dislike about the product?
Airtable can do so much, and I only have an intermediate understanding of all its functions. I wish I had more time to use Airtable to its full capacity.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Keeping tasks accounted for and on-time. It also helps us keep track of bibliographic information of collection items.

What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?

Interesting platform for specific use cases
What do you like best about the product?
Overall, I think the tool is/can be great for organization. I have built several airtables as tools for my personal workflow and have found them to be really helpful in planning out projects and looking into the future.
What do you dislike about the product?
I think that it is both too flexible and not flexible enough. My organization has built a mammoth airtable system that encompasses project management, resourcing, time tracking, estimating, and financial reporting and because they have been so focussed on getting all of those things connected, the actual airtables for each are pretty lackluster. But I appreciate that this is because my organization had the freedom to build whatever they wanted, which is not the fault of the platform that gave them the freedom to do that.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Airtable is allowing our organization to move from needing separate software for finance, time tracking, and project management, to one tool that can do them all. Honestly, I'm not sure this approach really benefits me outside of having everything in one place. While it's an interesting idea and could probably be executed if given enough time and resources, the team that built our system did not have that privilege and we have been sort of using a product that was only a half-baked idea rather than a fully articulated plan. That being said, it is nice as an employee to only have to have one platform.
Airtable is very friendly to use
What do you like best about the product?
Airtable is so easy to use. The interface is super nice. It is very appropriate for small to medium apps that you want to do for your personal or business use.
What do you dislike about the product?
However, Airtable will not give you all the functionalities that you will have in other more mature softwares. It misses some small things here and there that you will not realize until you try to implement something more complicated.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I use to manage a dataset with the outputs of my team
Good support
What do you like best about the product?
Really good support and walkthrough videos, lots of capabilities in the extensions
What do you dislike about the product?
Yearly renewals have been a bit complicated with changing guidelines each year
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
CRM/contact database
I Feel i have superpowers
What do you like best about the product?
The flexibility and ease of use is amazing. I'm not a programmer and I have a universe of options to create apps for my company's workflow that have made me an invaluable asset. It's intuitive and easy to learn. I look forward to learning more every time and become even more powerful
What do you dislike about the product?
The integrated data analysis tools are limited. I think there's a lot of potential for visualizing and analyzing data within the app. I would love to create more powerful Live boards and Dashboards to have everything in one place.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Airtable is enabling me to do no-code automating workflows as part of my job. Making me and my company more productive.
Powerful and Flexible
What do you like best about the product?
AirTable has been an incredibly powerful tool for our team which just gets more and more robust the more features we utulize. There's a learning curve in the begining on how to best structure your data, but once you understand how different data sets can relate to one another via Linked Records, it becomes easy to expand your workflow on the fly as needed in really powerful ways. We've been able to combine multiple workstreams into one space as a result. Automations elevate the experience dramatically if you know how to implement them, and interfaces take the whole thing to the next level by allowing for really custom UIs dependent on who needs to use them. We really appreciate the consistent updates with new features added frequently.
What do you dislike about the product?
Broadly speaking, I'd like to see AirTable do a better job empowering the more casual users of the service to do more complex things in an easy way. Because there's a learning curve to do the more complex stuff it tends to land on the same people to create base, interfaces, formulas, and automations. Being able to create templates where certain relationships are already set up and automations are already turned on is key.
The number one piece of feedback I hear from my org is that commenting needs an overhaul. Having comments tied to records is great but having those comments buried in the UI is not. Not having resolvable comments or a view of comments across the base/interface makes tracking comments really difficult for power users.
From the perspective of a "creator" (someone building the bases/interfaces) here are some top requested features:
- Allow bases to be duplicated with automations already turned on
- Allow user to disable automation error emails
- Allow for those with editor status to create dropdown options
- Allow the newer interfaces pages to use a field in the data source to display in the grid/gallery/etc. like the original interfaces allowed with the record picker.
- Allow more complex automations with multiple if/then layers and repeating actions.
- Add a video timecode format to the duration field for video projects.

AirTable allows us to track our video edits on a clip by clip basis based on a timecode range. Our system allows video editors to export a status report of filenames and timecode in and out points of their latest edit, then airtable is able to identify matches with footage that already has been added to the system or create new clips for footage that hasn't been added. This way information on each clip is able to stay in one place and simply be updated with version information in a field, which can then be used for filtering and sorting as needed.
