Airtable - Great solution to support our Not-for-profit fundraising and relationship management
What do you like best about the product?
We are just getting underway with Airtable, but were very excited when we learned about the product. We are a not-for-profit emergency services provider serving 5 towns in southern Vermont. We have used spreadsheets to manage data to support fundraising and our relationship with residents and businesses in our service area. That approach gave us some basic functionality, but we have been looking for a much more robust option for several years. Most avenues we pursued were more expensive than we can support in or budget and more complex than we need - requiring too much time and knowledge from a largely volunteer group. After working to understand Airtable and develop a plan for implementing and using the product - we are confident that Airtable will be a great solution for us. Airtable will allow us to dramatically improve the value we can gain from our data while allowing more key players ways to use that data to support our organizational goals. Airtable will support several different teams/committees - allowing each to meet existing goals and develop new, more ambitious goals.
What do you dislike about the product?
As with any project of this kind - getting started is likely the toughest task. Our historical data requires a great deal of work to get it in shape to make the move to Airtable. But - that is one of the primary reasons we are making the change.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Primary use is to support our fundraising efforts. Our problem has been that our old approach made it very difficult to gain any value from our data, and periodically we had to undertake major efforts to update key info (like mailing lists). Our fundraising work was suffering because we lacked a real understanding of where our money was coming from, trends in our fundraising makeup and we had a very limited capacity to reach out to important donors. We are just in process of implementing this new approach, but feel confident that our data will be much better organized, be accessible to more members of our team and will lead to better strategies for successfully engaging with our communities.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
A great product for those used to spreadsheets for maintaining data, but with the need to go to the next level. We were considering some sort of database or packaged fundraising support platform - but cost and complication were real issues. Airtable provides the functionality we need, and we expect that it will be far more user friendly for more of our team - and will be cost effective enough for our not-for-profit to be able to handle.
Airtable has helped us streamline and organise our data in a completely new way
What do you like best about the product?
We were maintaining a number of spreadsheets of largely the same data for separate user groups, and it was a lot of maintenance to ensure each spreadsheet was synchronised whenever changes occurred. With Airtable we have one pool of data with many views. This was essentially the feature we were looking for and Airtable has meet and exceeded those requirements. In addition, we've been able to do much better analysis of our data and improve the efficiency of our data entry and the breadth of data we accumulate.
What do you dislike about the product?
There are a few limitations, such as no median aggregation of lookup fields, but the support team has been helpful in showing us workarounds while features are being worked on.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We operate the largest online directory of homeless services in San Francisco. A primary challenge we face is maintaining accurate data about these services and their providers, as services and the way to access the services is continually changing. We use volunteers to crowd source this content during workshops but, until now, it's been challenging visualising and analysing the large quantity of data that we receive during the workshops. Now with Airtable it's much easier to perform gap analysis and other data analysis to understand where data is missing or needs improvement. With this kind of analysis we can go to our partners and share with them this important information in much more visually interesting ways than basic spreadsheets, and best of all we can do it all with a single application.
Working well for indexing a book!
What do you like best about the product?
It is an easy-to-use relational database.
What do you dislike about the product?
So far I've had no problems with the app.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
In the past I've used another web-based database/table app to index a book. The app was in beta and our use of it was data intensive (tens of thousands of records, many of them with paragraphs of text, and many complex cross links across tables). That app worked well (despite some initial bugs), but is has since gone out of existence, and I have a new book to index, so I'm trying it in AirTable. So far it is working excellently. It was easy to set up (including importing tables from the old app), and it's running stably and quickly, despite our tables being complex and data-intensive.
Secure, excellent documentation, lots of ways to view your data
What do you like best about the product?
We love the API documentation (which we have only played with, not implemented in production yet), the built-in templates for seeing what's possible, and the different views you can get of your data. We use Grid and Gallery views. We're also exploring formulas.
What do you dislike about the product?
Unfortunately, you can't link cells across bases.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Right now, we're using Airtable to track press hits and create a database of reporters and outlets who have covered us. This is helpful for reaching out to those reporters for future stories. Plus, having a well-organized record of press hits makes grant reporting easier. Ultimately, we hope to use Airtable's API to highlight recent press hits from this database on our website. Once we have our Press base fully working, we hope to migrate more of our processes from Google Sheets over to Airtable.
AMAZING TOOL FOR NGO & SMALL BUSINESSES
What do you like best about the product?
It's incredible everything we can do with this tool ! :)
We started with a base, and it was so user friendly and so useful, we now have almost 30 !
Everything in our NGO is on this platform - from our donors database to our events management database.
Every department now has a work space, with different bases, and everyone can have access to the information within seconds. Our productivity, as a team, has never been better, and we always use every opportunity we have to promote it to our partners and clients.
This platform is the best way possible for any small organization with employees having different roles. It allows us to better compartmentalize our activities and ease our work processes From project management to accounting and logistic, we do everything on it !

Airtable makes our operations run smooth!
What do you like best about the product?
Airtable has allowed us to reduce the amount of software to automate our community and collaborate as a team.
What do you dislike about the product?
No complaints to this point, Airtable continues to surprise us!
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Communication with our community and our entire database in one place.
Pretty powerful if you don't mind playing with it for a while
What do you like best about the product?
It has a lot of functionality, so it can combine Typeform/Google Forms, Dropbox, Excel/Google Sheets, and probably a few other programs all into one. It is pretty easy to collaborate and a few people working in a table at once.
What do you dislike about the product?
It can be a bit tricky to get a handle of. The fact that it looks like a spreadsheet but does not behave like one can be a bit frustrating, as simple things like "display in X column what is in Y column in another table" can be challenging, but I have found ways around it. I actually kind of like that part, as it is very much like coding/puzzle solving, but I can see others being sometimes frustrated by it.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are using it to accept information from potential clients as well as to keep track of active projects once we sign statements of work with the clients. I am also finding ways to use it to set up alerts about missing/late invoices, project overruns, and more.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Dynamic linking would really be wonderful, as that would help get over the "this looks like Excel but is not" issue. By "dynamic linking" I mean being able to take one field, perform some simple formula on it (e.g. add a month to a date) and then use that result as the linked record.
Airtable is great for process automation, product catalogues and CRM
What do you like best about the product?
So simple to use but has loads of power. Really easy to get data in and out when using Zapier. Excellent support/knowledge base.
What do you dislike about the product?
It does take a little while to get your head round conceptually. The fact that it looks like a spreadsheet but doesn't always behave like one took a while to get to grips with. The tons of support articles help a lot though.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We have recently automated an award scheme that has removed a load of manual work but also allows us to automatically publish a progress tracker to the web.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
I highly recommend Airtable, the free plan gives you more than enough features to thoroughly test if it's right for you.
Task Management Made Easy
What do you like best about the product?
The ability to use templates, archive old ones, and easily assign tasks to my peers has never been easier. The visual simplicity of this, and the ability to click and drag is so simple.
What do you dislike about the product?
It has a limit to how much space you're able to use, but you can archive old items to add more space.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The ability to check in on projects with my peers that work in different offices than me. This allows us to real-time collaboration and management like never before. We are able to check in on items that are still in progress as well. We also use this for file-sharing!
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Start with viewing some of the videos put together before using, or the user templates to get used to the tool first. It will help greatly!
