HR and ATS integrations
What do you like best about the product?
They do have a lot of APIs and in general they have a decent setup process and their APIs aren't too expensive. I only use the HRIS and ATS APIs so I can't comment on the rest of the offerings so maybe people have had a more positive experience with Merge there.
What do you dislike about the product?
The big issue is poor documentation, lack of developer tooling and just general data quality issues.
Data Quality:
For example I'm trying to pull in an employee and their employment data. Now we can get the employment data from the employee when I call the merge endpoint for employees, however when calling the endpoint to get employments there is no explicit link back to the employee. There are work arounds to this issue, but there is no consistency here and we have to check against every possible edge case because everything is possibly null
Developer Experience and documentation:
Their typescript SDK is coming along nicely but they completely abandonded a shoddy JS library. But my main complaint is with the docs. There aren't enough examples and often things are explained. For example there's an expand parameter for some of the endpoints. Would be nice to know what we can expand.

What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We need integrations with HR platforms and their API does it make easy for us not to have to manually deal with each integration ourselves.

What do you dislike about the product?
I wish Merge could expand the human support time in different time zone. If I'm in the opposite time zone, then I need to wait for ~12-15 house to get a reply.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We were doing self-development for each integration, and it took 4-5 weeks to complete with testing. Once we learned about the Merge, we integrated it with our system, and our turnaround time is less than 5 minutes. So basically Merge is saving 1-2 developers time, a quick launch of any integration that Merge supports.
The best integration software in existence
What do you like best about the product?
I seriously cannot express my gratitude and appreciation enough. Merge has all the integrations I need and saved my development team countless hours. Also, their team is super responsive and helpful. I 100% recommend you check out Merge.
What do you dislike about the product?
No downsides that I have experienced so far.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Connecting my software with 45+ Applicant Tracking Systems. Merge is so simple, just one integration with them gives my software access to all their integrations.
Great tool to ship HRIS integrations quickly
What do you like best about the product?
The documentation is really strong, and they have broad coverage with the major HRIS platforms.
What do you dislike about the product?
They don't have total coverage, particularly in Canada, among HRIS platforms.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We needed to build an HRIS integration solution for our customers, and Merge has allowed us to build high-quality, stable integrations extremely quickly. They've reduced our time to market.
Helped us rapidly expand our available offerings
What do you like best about the product?
Hugely reduced our workload by interfacing with many different ATSs, removing the need for us to build out bespoke integrations for each of them and allowing us to focus on building product features instead of data retrieval
What do you dislike about the product?
On some large ATSs it can take a long time for Merge to complete their sync, which sometimes leaves us with out of date data. Syncs are always successful however, with no missing data once they have completed
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Merge provides us with one single interface to collect data from many distinct sources, instead of our team having to research and implement many different API services. This saves us huge amounts of time and allows us to stand up new features much quicker
Great Idea, Needs Refinement
What do you like best about the product?
I like that Merge is a solution to a headache that a lot of companies have. They are a path to scale. They have a lot of options and are continuously building out solutions.
What do you dislike about the product?
Merge is difficult to understand for customers. Merge has partnerships for the customers that they have contracts with, and then those customers have their own customers who are utilizing Merge. The explanation from Merge > Customer > Customer's Customer is very challenging to understand and also communicate back to. It makes it very difficult being on the customer end to understand how Merge does things.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Merge allows for customers to self-link their own data into our platform. Merge allows us to say we integrate with multiple providers. However, there isn't feature parity across every provider, which presents many challenges when using Merge.
Excellent product and service that lets us focus on our core business.
What do you like best about the product?
With any SASS product, a key problem you will encounter is *HOW* to get your customer's employee data into your system. The first attempt is often to try and build your own integrations, which will work for a time but quickly gets out of hand as you expand the breadth of systems you support. Over the long term dealing with the headaches of keeping up with bespoke code as vendor APIs change and resolving issues can quickly become a business unto itself, sapping resources away from the core business functionality of your product.
Merge solves these problems by allowing you to integrate with a single unified API from your system and letting them deal with the bespoke nature of each vendor. They think of the quality of life improvements that anticipate our end customers' needs so we don't have to, and their support staff is excellent at resolving issues.

What do you dislike about the product?
It can sometimes be challenging to tell what features are supported by what integrations from the documentation, but in a year of using Merge I've seen them strive to make continual improvements in this area. If you have a question, the support staff is only moments away.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Maintaining bespoke vendor integrations was both error-prone and time-consuming for us. After building our Merge integration, we have been able to spend more time focusing on our core business problems which only begin *after* we get employees into our platform.
Great offering, backed with great support
What do you like best about the product?
Merge provides excellent support. Reaching out to them typically gets you a response within a day. Having confidence in a speedy response makes a difference when your time zones differ vastly.
Their product is relatively easy to integrate, and their dashboard is very informative.
Their product is relatively easy to integrate, and their dashboard is very informative.
What do you dislike about the product?
For an integration to be functional, they must import all the end-user data. They permit you to restrict what types of data to import, but there aren't ways to limit the data being imported. You have to import all the candidates; you cannot restrict the import to candidates you sent to Merge.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Our customers use a variety of ATSs, and by using Merge, we don't need to integrate into each ATS. With a single integration with Merge, we benefit from having access to many ATSs.
Get to market quickly with many integrations
What do you like best about the product?
Merge has great documentation and support. Quick access to the team in a shared Slack channel to debug development and production issues. This helps our engineering team quickly get unstuck and gets us to market with a bunch of ticketing integrations.
What do you dislike about the product?
Merge's data models for certain integrations were missing fields that we needed for our use case, but the team was quick to respond to our requests and added them in for us.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Merge helps us get to market quickly with many integrations in a new category. This means our engineering team doesn't have to spend months building out different integrations in the same category to support more customers.
Extremely solid integration intermediary tool
What do you like best about the product?
We use Merge exclusively for HRIS connections, however my experience has been overall excellent. The amount of heavy lifting that the API normalization does for us in making the various HRIS systems usable by our own application is enormous (which would take huge amounts of developer work to do). The UI is also extremely clean, and makes getting a grasp on our setup very easy.
What do you dislike about the product?
The biggest challenge that we encounter is the rigidity of the choices made by the normalization for the various Merge objects which we draw down - it is not uncommon that we have customers who want to use field X rather than field Y. While Merge does offer the ability to draw from the source data directly, at least in our case this would be an unrealistic amount of work to maintain, since the primary draw Merge for us is normalization. The team, however, is always expanding the use cases that can be covered and receptive to feedback and challenges.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
There are many HRIS systems out there, and Merge allows us to interact with a significant number of those, expanding the scope of customers that we can support.
