APIs completely open, documented, and integrable practically with any language, perfect!
What do you like best about the product?
We have used Zabbix for several years across multiple data centers. In the initial phase, the delegated monitoring capability solved some problems for us. Over the years, it has scaled very well, and we regularly monitor thousands of virtual machines with hundreds of monitored items each. The API works quite well, and we have been able to write very useful automation within it. We monitor our most important servers with Zabbix, and it works very well.
What do you dislike about the product?
We should probably limit the default length for new story elements. Initially, we had scaling issues because we had so much history to move. The web user interface in previous versions is not very nice. It's improving, but there are a couple of versions behind.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Through the APIs, we were able to integrate a Telegram bot and a WhatsApp bot capable of alerting the appropriate people and teams for each type of problem or alert arising from more or less critical resources. The alerting is immediate and can include both graphs and histograms, as well as detailed texts of errors, issues, and timestamps.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Learning the API has been useful for creating very specific automation and dashboards. I would recommend learning the API early to fully realize its benefits, as it is possible to completely query the values of Zabbix, alerts, alarms, and triggers with the simplicity of a GET call or a POST request with both XML and JSON output.
Absolutely economical and the free open-source version already allows for complete monitoring.
What do you like best about the product?
Adapting it to your environment and personalizing it also takes some time, but in the end, it is something that will help you save yourself from device-by-device control. My experience has been very positive, I have used many monitoring tools that were also good, but this is the one that convinced me the most. It takes time for implementation but it is understood that it is a free tool.
What do you dislike about the product?
It takes patience and time to adjust the trigger so that it only shows the problems that actually exist in the infrastructures, but once it is adapted to your needs, it becomes an ally in being aware of resources and being able to react in time. When a problem arises with the tool, there aren't many forums and it requires investing time in finding the solution. In almost a year and a half that I've had the tool, I've only had the monitoring stop for a few hours because the service was interrupted; I found the cause by searching in the forums and was able to solve the problem.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I have implemented the device with Ubuntu and if you follow the installation manual, it is simple. You can add a variety of monitoring resources and the triggers can be customized according to your needs. The dashboard gives you a very broad view of all the computer's resources and allows you to prioritize more efficiently. You can create your own maps, review detailed resource graphs, create macros, and view online information of all devices. Overall, it is a very useful tool.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Support tickets sound expensive if you purchase some starter packs, so an Enterprise package is always recommended if it is necessary for its implementation in the complete infrastructure of a large organization.
Proactive alerting is always essential, Zabbix helps to achieve it fully.
What do you like best about the product?
For my team, it has proven to be a performant and optimal monitoring tool based on the solid Linux kernel, free and open source with an effective dashboard. Implementation of new hosts, items, and triggers is quite simple, a complete web-based tool (I presume PHP) with ease of adding hosts that need to be monitored on a single configuration web browser but with multiuser support.
What do you dislike about the product?
Paid support and the community is not very active today, the knowledge base guides are available but for previous versions and not for version 4 LTS. Difficulty in creating objects and, moreover, monitoring Windows Hypervisor is difficult compared to monitoring other open source virtualization servers like Proxmox or OpenStack. The predefined charts selectable in the non-enterprise version are inferior compared to other monitoring tools.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Thanks to Zabbix, my team that deals with software-defined networking is able to fully and quickly know in real-time the entire state of the logical controller behind the applied networking configurations, so as to timely detect and resolve any issues related to latencies or high CPU loads, which are often frequent in SDN systems during the processing of routing and switching information with a large number of entries, saving a lot of time in debugging and resolving fatal crashes.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Integrate with Bash scripting or Python rather than buying very expensive and less customizable templates; open source is increasingly scalable and migratable in the future towards different services.
The most one can expect from open-source for monitoring critical and production systems
What do you like best about the product?
Zabbix was mostly created during the time it was created precisely for this. This is everything that happens in a fun way like everything and still. Zabbix is very nice and well made to be used.
What do you dislike about the product?
So, we are really trying to kick off Zabbix. What I like most about everything is the beauty and similarity of all this. It's not really a challenge to start and change the thing. You can also choose your love and all your thoughts. Moreover, this is a real dream and if you don't like something and you can do it, you can do it. The ideas help to understand that the questions have been retrieved and many have been made throughout the course.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
However, I don't think I had to do anything about what is being said to make it happen. I should understand what is there, the choice is absolutely not as it could be. I am one of the authors of what was necessary. I thought that the deceased should have let go and understood something important and of great significance.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
There are many pieces of equipment for which ready-made models do not exist. It takes a lot of time to search for models on the Internet. And writing models by oneself is very problematic.
Moderately easy to set up, but once active, it helps a lot in daily work, brilliant
What do you like best about the product?
The ease of setting up our various systems in Zabbix and reviewing recorded metrics in a GUI are probably the best features for our team. We have a lot of resources and are not generally pushing them to the limit. However, when issues arise, the ability to analyze and correlate the load across multiple hosts has been a great win.
What do you dislike about the product?
A monitoring system and the story of the boy who cried wolf, the two would never meet. Unfortunately, we have some situations where we receive so many messages about an error that it leads to the formation of bad habits. This is largely due to our system architecture and the way specific monitors detect and report the same issue across multiple hosts. In particular, the memory usage on a shared mount. We have made progress in solving this problem, but it continues to be a source of spam and desensitization to warning messages.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We have several hosts on multiple tests and an operational environment. Being able to integrate the monitoring of those into a single monitoring solution has been a critical aspect of our approach to systems. Being able to create custom screens/dashboards for metrics of great interest makes it easier to filter out the noise and focus on what matters most to us.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
We have used other monitoring systems like Nagios and Hyperion. Zabbix is a simple solution that has many of the core features you would want from a system/application monitoring application. I recommend it as a tool to evaluate when considering system monitors.
The monitoring of routers and switches is simple, fast, and through secure protocols.
What do you like best about the product?
Zabbix is a monitoring software for multiple network parameters, server operability, and server status. Zabbix uses a flexible notification scheme that allows users to set up email alerts for almost any event. This feature allows for quick reactions to server issues. Zabbix offers brilliant visualization and information capabilities based on the collected data. This is why Zabbix can be considered an ideal tool for scaling and modeling.
What do you dislike about the product?
We like that Zabbix functions as an extractor and hunter. All statistics, tool settings, and reports in Zabbix are available through the web interface. The web interface establishes the necessary network status for you to be able to assess the working servers from anywhere. It is noted that a well-tuned Zabbix plays an essential role in monitoring the IT infrastructure.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Fortunately, this platform has not caused a lot of problems for our team. However, there are some things that they are not entirely satisfied with. On one hand, the customization options for the user provide a series of obvious advantages. But on the other hand, if you don't have the opportunity to dedicate time to managing the program, it is no longer an advantage. The program cannot display data related to text types.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Properly configuring disk space helps avoid sudden resizing or data migrations due to the large amount of data and files created by Zabbix.
Highest quality but the setup is repetitive, boring, and often poorly documented, necessary!
What do you like best about the product?
Zabbix offers incredibly flexible monitoring and reporting on a huge number of metrics. While it is not the most intuitive option, the ability to control the environment from many different perspectives outweighs the time spent setting it up.
What do you dislike about the product?
It is not at all intuitive to set up, as I have already mentioned, this is enormously offset by the product's flexibility. The configuration of this product should not be taken lightly, as it requires time and demands systems and network experience.
Furthermore, many settings need to be cloned or turned off and on again to make the changes effective, despite pressing the Apply button, all in a completely random and non-repetitive manner.
Furthermore, many settings need to be cloned or turned off and on again to make the changes effective, despite pressing the Apply button, all in a completely random and non-repetitive manner.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
This product offers enormous flexibility for monitoring services and machines on our network and even regarding inventory management.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Spend a few extra minutes learning/studying Bash or Python scripting languages, they are extremely useful as external scripts and alert scripts to use in Zabbix to achieve functionalities such as alerting via Telegram or WhatsApp.
Excellent Tool For Monitoring All Systems.
What do you like best about the product?
Zabbix tracks our systems and facilities and automatically sends out the alert, so that we can deal with the problem and fix it immediately. I like the Zabbix most because it allows several users to set up emails and simultaneously receive updates in real time.
What do you dislike about the product?
The problem he has and is addressing is his interface, which in this new version was no longer very successful.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Zabbix is ideally suited to track both our internal systems and our different customers to ensure that the quality of service delivered is always maintained. It's a device I really like because I deal with it every day, but it's always transferring my data specifically, so that I can receive notifications in the event of circuits left unmanaged. It is code that is very useful.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
In order to monitor efficiently all available servers and facilities, I advise everyone to use this great monitoring tool, and it already specifies the issue.
Without a doubt, the best open source tool for alerting and monitoring
What do you like best about the product?
Zabbix, specifically version 4 which guarantees long-term support, is a performant and reliable tool for continuous monitoring of servers, hosts, guests, and other types of devices in both agent and agentless modes. The suite is aimed at maintaining SLAs and being proactive with related alerting in case of threshold breaches or trigger values. Its extensibility is practically infinite, and I will explain why later. However, as of today, I can undoubtedly define it as the best tool for monitoring and alerting technical and support teams.
What do you dislike about the product?
The only thing that has not been resolved in 4 versions of Zabbix, and I believe negatively impacts the user experience, is the lack of a wizard capable of supporting the user, whether advanced, intermediate, or basic, in the complete creation of an item and its subsequent connection with alerts, triggers, hosts, graphs, and so on.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Thanks to Zabbix, it is possible for us, in the case of threshold breaches or hosts with alarming values during non-working and unmonitored hours, to automate continuous checks of various kinds immediately after the event detection and for the following minutes/hours. These checks are created through bash scripting and launched on the impacted machine via agent (if available) or SSH/telnet. Without Zabbix, all this logic of periodic post-alarm checks would have been our responsibility to design and would have taken hours and hours of work and entire teams of developers and system administrators.
