Very efficient translation platform, helpful helpdesk, dedicated PMs

It is sometimes hard to differenciate between the different translation workflows

My Smartling Review as a Translation Resource
What do you like best about the product?
Working online means I don't have to download the working files, hence freeing my local computer's storage.
What do you dislike about the product?
Smartling is not compatible with smartphones and tablets. Therefore, its use is limited only to laptop or desktop computers.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
With Smartling, I can use one account for multiple projects for multiple agencies. So, there's no need to create separate accounts for different clients.

What I like the most with the Smartling platform is the ability to raise a query directly from the platform. No more spreadsheets or back-and-forth emails! The context window is also very helpful

As AI is still in its early days, the quality of the output varies and the review can take longer sometimes

Lack of context is always an issue for translators, and the context window addresses that, however it is not always available

What do you like best about the product?
I've had a great experience working with Smartling as a professional linguist. The platform is truly exceptional. What I appreciate most is the user-friendly interface and the visual context feature. Being able to see my translations in real-time on a webpage or in an app is a game-changer for ensuring quality and accuracy. The way Smartling integrates all necessary resources, like translation memory and glossaries, directly into the workspace makes my job much more efficient. The overall workflow is seamless and professional.

What do you dislike about the product?
While my overall experience with Smartling has been excellent, I have recently noted a decrease in the volume of assignments, which has made it difficult to maintain a consistent income. I am hopeful this is a temporary issue, as this agency is, without a doubt, the best I have worked with.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Smartling fundamentally solves the problem of inefficient and fragmented translation workflows. By providing a unified, cloud-based platform, it centralizes all the tools and resources a linguist needs, from the CAT tool to translation memory and glossaries. I can manage all my assignments from a single dashboard, eliminating the hassle of juggling multiple files and platforms. The platform’s visual context and integrated resources help me deliver more accurate and context-aware translations. The automation and organized structure save me time on administrative tasks, allowing me to focus on the actual translation. In short, Smartling makes my work more efficient and my final output better.
A great company to work for with good pay, manageable deadlines and nice PM's.

I really like the AI translations that they do. They improve the workflow a lot and is much faster than traditional translation, without it being paid way less, like most other agencies.
What do you dislike about the product?
Their review phase is odd. It feels very hard to know what you have done wrong in a given translation as the reviewer is responsible for giving examples, without you easily being able to connect it to each segment in the translation.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It improves my workflow with their AI integration. It is not using an LLM or similar (as far as I am aware) but rather some intelligent translation software.

The editor is clean, loads fast. It allows me to begin working immediately without unnecessary technical friction. It is intuitively designed, with a clean layout that facilitates focus on the text rather than the tool. the in-context preview make UI strings way less guessy.
The reviewer functionality is well thought out. Comments, mentions, and edit suggestions integrate seamlessly into the workflow, enabling efficient collaboration with other linguists and project managers.
QA checks catch the usual landmines (placeholders, numbers, punctuation) without getting in the way of the linguist.
The auto-propagation of identical strings significantly reduces repetitive work and increases overall efficiency.
Glossary suggestions appear promptly, and the concordance search is particularly effective when I need to maintain tonal or stylistic consistency across projects.
Overall, Smartling provides a stable, efficient environment that supports both productivity and linguistic quality.

In some cases, the availability of contextual information is limited. Missing screenshots, incomplete metadata, or lack of detailed source notes make it more challenging to deliver precise translations, particularly for UI strings or marketing content.

What do you like best about the product?
The translation memory as well the AI used to translate some documents are amazing. It is night and day with translation software from 10 years ago.
What do you dislike about the product?
This is a very minor complaint, but scrolling down should be easier.

Smartling helps me translate documents sentence by sentence and the translation memory allows me to remain consistent with terminology from one job to another for the same client.
Smartling is a very friendly and high-quality CAT tool I highly recommend.

I have experience with various computer-aided translation (CAT) tools, and I consider Smartling to be among the best available. It allows you to easily see who translated each segment and whether a segment's translation has already been approved.

Up to this point, I haven't come across anything that I dislike.

Ease of finding previously translated and approved terms or phrases.
I use Smarlting everyday for work with different clients and it is a useful and easy CAT tool to use

I like how I can have an overview of all projets available to be assigned, but also which ones are late in terms of delivery.

We don't receive notifications when projects are canceled and that leads to confusion on our part sometimes.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It has a very comprehensive dashboard where we can easily see all projects based on our needs (available to claim, late deliveries, which ones are coming up next etc). Other CAT Tools don't have that.
