Best company for website translation/localization

  • June 01, 2020
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The platform is very robust and allows the organization and coordination needed to translate a large amount of content. More importantly, the service and support that we got from Smartling made the project seem uncomplicated and effortless. We are utilizing Smartling's Global Delivery Network (GDN). It allows us to keep our current workflow in place. The pages are written and managed in our custom CMS, then consumed into GDN, approved, and translated. That workflow allows us to communicate directly with the translators and any and all issues are resolved quickly. Once final approval is given, the pages show up as live translated pages on the GDN.
What do you dislike about the product?
The platform does have a small learning curve and if you want to learn more about the advanced features, you should rely on the service and support team.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
As a destination that attracts many international visitors, it is extremely important to display our content in the appropriate native language. Smartling's platform and its translation options are the perfect fit. Utilizing Smartling's platform and services allows us to focus on developing content instead of the arduous task of translation and localization.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
I highly recommend using Smartling's Global Delivery Network. It was the option that offered the least amount of setup and difficulty. Our initial translation was ingested into the GDN and translated in a short amount of time.

Easy-to-use CMS and CAT tool

  • June 01, 2020
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
- Smartling offers a variety of connectors that are relatively easy to set up
- The tool is well known among LSPs, so there's no long onboarding time to get started with translation work
- Dedicated CSM on the Enterprise plan
- Easy to use for project managers and requestors
- TM sharing across projects which helps to save costs
- Extensive reporting functionality
What do you dislike about the product?
- The job functionality can be a bit clumsy to navigate
- There's no easy way to automatically add visual context for app translation files
- I'd want more flexibility in the CAT tool, e.g. view two translated languages next to each other
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
At our company, we use Smartling as our centralized TMS. It enables us to leverage previously translated content across all projects, which is a great time- and cost-saver. We have all linguistic assets in one place and they are always accessible for the translators to use. This helps us to stay consistent with our brand voice and terminology.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
I believe Smartling is suitable for both small companies just starting out with localization, but also bigger companies with mature localization processes. It's on the pricey side but definitely worth it.

Easy to use, love the preview context feature!

  • May 30, 2020
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Although I have been a translator for over a decade, I don't usually use CAT Tools -my work is mostly literary and very creative. However, a new client asked me to use Smartling and it really did surprise me as to how easy it was to use. I especially love the feature that shows you how the text will actually look like on the website/app screen, etc. Context is vital to translation, simply string to string is not enough - but not many CAT Tools provide that feature.
What do you dislike about the product?
When you click on submit, it shows several options to choose from before submitting. I think each option should be better explained, it's hard to tell the difference between them - I never know which one I should select. I also find a little bit unclear if, when I save strings, they are automatically saved as a memory for that term, and I would only like that to happen once I am certain of my translation (I like to take some time away from it before I submit, but I save the strings as I work on them so I don't risk losing work already done.
The option to drag windows to change their sizes could be better too... I often find they don't drag to look as large as I'd like to.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Consistency - being able to easily refer to a term to check how it has been translated before in order to maintain consistency.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
You don't have to install anything, it is fast and light on your browser. Seems to be very modern compared to other CAT Tools and a lot easier to use, as well as more intuitive.

An easy-to-use experience despite our multi-media automation needs.

What do you like best about the product?
The flexibility to work with the Smartling API, plug it into our CMS, work with our choice of translators and automate the translation of anything from PDF assets to webpages.
What do you dislike about the product?
It took a while to get my head around the onboarding process. But that was more due to our various complex needs than any issue with the Smartline platform.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Automation of translation to our CMS has been a game-changer. Also the ability to pause translation for an in-house “Sales review”.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
It takes a bit of time to get set up, onboarded, and acclimate to the new workflow. But once this is done and everything is running smoothly, you’ll wonder how you ever managed without the Smartling process.

Excellent tool, a pleasure to work with and improved my efficiency

  • May 29, 2020
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The centralization of tools within a single platform, the single login for the whole platform, the ability to batch translation tasks and open them within a single view so I don't have to repeatedly close and open new individual files to translate. Also, the integration of the machine-translation and of the glossary is great!
What do you dislike about the product?
There's been times where logging in repeatedly is required (looked like this was a cookie bug?). However, contacting support has been fruitful. The support was in fact very fast and courteous in responding to my queries. With their help, I was able to solve the issue and so far, there has not been any other problems with the software. One last thing, as a translator using many tools, I would appreciate the ability to re-assign shortcuts, as re-learning shortcuts for each software is time-consuming.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Efficient translation, review and QA work. With the centralization of tools within the Smartling platform, I've been able to batch translation tasks, and open them more efficiently than with other tools or other workflows. This improves efficiency and allows me to provide a higher quality translation overall, as consistency is easier to maintin in such a workflow.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
To others considering smartling, I recommend trying it out using one of the trial plans, take some time to read the documentation/meet with experts on how to implement an efficient workflow using Smartling, and then to see whether or not the software is helpful to your business. By learning the Smartling's workflow, one can really improve quality and efficiency.

Smartling is very easy to use and the company is constantly improving their features!

  • May 29, 2020
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Smartling is very intuitive and extremely functional. When I heard that I should start using a new software, I was scared at the beginning (as I had some bad experiences with some CAT tools), but I realized how easy it was with Smartling. The developer team is constantly improving the tools and features.
What do you dislike about the product?
From my side, I can not say something that I dislike. For a non-professional translator like me, the tool works well.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Smartling offers all the features I need, including a glossary and most used translations. It makes it much easier to edit and flag potential strings with conflicts or issues. It's an excellent tool for automating workflows and has a great customer support team.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
If you are looking for a solution that is easy to use and not very difficult to master, you should definitely try Smartling.

Easy to use!

  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
It is very user friendly from the translator's point of view. You have all the tools ready and available as soon as you open the project. You also have the option to use an MT and the Editor is very robust. Another cool feature is that the editor and translator can work on different strings of a project at the same time. If we need a quick turnaround, we are able to achieve it sans problems.
What do you dislike about the product?
It is not very intuitive for the Manager. I hope that they improve the manager's version for a more comprehensive project management tool.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are able to add subtitles directly, instead of having to download the .srt file. it is practical and our clients can obtain the subtitles in an easy manner. I also like that you can translate any type of file, including PDFs. We can also translate web pages directly, without middle man.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
I think if Smartling would improve the Manager aspect, it would be the perfect tool. We have not had any issues and we have been able to train our freelance translators in a short time. We also appreciate the Customer Service and their willingness that Smatling has to help us the best way we can.

Smartling gets the job done, efficiently and automatically

  • May 28, 2020
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Easy integration with github, flexibility in the UI, clear pricing, easy flow from our English build into 14 different language builds of our product. Smartling support developers are willing to customize the solution for us, and always available and we have a dedicated account manager
What do you dislike about the product?
Sometimes the clarifying questions from human translators in regards to a word or sentence being translated aren't easy to understand, also the new Admin UI makes is less easy to find things, but just have to get used to it
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Our company uses it to translate our flagship Mergers and Acquisitions SaaS service offering into 14 different languages and localizations to multiple Fortune 100s around the world. We couldn't do it without Smartling, no way. I am someone within our company that has taken the lead on integrations with our CI/CD pipeline and I took it on because I could see Smartling had great integration options, the Github connector is great!
Recommendations to others considering the product:
If you need to have higher quality translations than what Google translate API gives you (you do) then have Smartlings team of human translators do it. Turn around is in a few days or less.
