Solid & Straightfoward TMS/CAT, for both localization vendors and clients alike
What do you like best about the product?
Offering browser tool options that easily outweighs the old-fashioned subscription based software like Trados/MemoQ, allowing users to go with options other than the sophisticated subsciption/setup processes. Plus, the available integration options is constantly growing with plenty of QoL features rolling out.
What do you dislike about the product?
Tech issue where LQA features raising false positives and results in blockers. Also, the OCR feature for PDF files still has room for improvements, words may be captured inaccurately and linebreak can be placed at a weird spot.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Continuos LQA setup and automated LQA processes. Seemingless conversation exchange should there be a query raised between vendor and client.
Ongoing translation workflow

2. Quite easy to use

What do you dislike about the product?
1. The system is far from perfect in translation and translation memory usage. It regularly marks perfect matches (100%) when these are not true 100% matches, so they still need to be seriously checked and reprocessed.
2. The system also does not consistently translate according to the attached glossaries and identical source phrases and source terms are translated in different variations.
3. After a search action a project always returns to the first segment on the first page. It would be better if it would return to the last edited segment. With projects consisting of serveral pages this is time consuming and annoying.
4. A jump function to segment number is absent and would be highly appreaciated. This could be a temporary workaround for the in 3. described problem.

Professional and Easy Translation Software
What do you like best about the product?
I have used Smartling for translation work for a number of years now, and it's definitely my favorite translation tool. The reasons for this are many:
First and foremost, it is easy to use. There are several convenient tabs at the top, e.g. Context, Quality Checks, Search in TM, and Glossary. These are used often and very relevant to a smooth and efficient workflow.
Secondly, the translation window has a simple and practical layout. Source text on the left, target on the right. Navigating from segment to segment is easy, either by confirming segments and moving on to the next, or simply clicking into whatever segment you want to work in.
And last, but not least, as you work through your text, you can use a number of common insertables, like common and special characters, and tags to mention a few. This makes the translation process fast and convenient.
I would also like to mention that if you have any issues you would like help with during the project, there is an easy-to-use Open New Issue function on the right hand side. Simply enter the question or comment you have, and the issue will be reported to the person in charge of this specific job.

What do you dislike about the product?
The Quality Checks process after you have completed the translation, can be tedious, especially if it's a big job. There is usually a long list of false positives that you have to x out, which can take time. However, you can make adjustment in your settings to alleviate this issue.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Makes my translation process fast and easy.
A Freelance Translator Review of Smartling
What do you like best about the product?
As a translator, I use Smartling daily and it's my main source of work at the moment. Smartling's browser-based CAT tool has made my work much faster and organized allowing me to deliver high quality results and to process higher volumes of work. Navigation between strings, translation memory search, glossary usage, and quality checks have become quite intuite for me.
As reagrds ease of implementation and integration from a translator's standpoint, I only have to wait for a project manager to include me in a client workteam and to start working as soon as open jobs are posted after glossaries, translation memories, and workflow processes are set up.
I have technical support if an issue arises, though I often have to rely on project managers for answers.

What do you dislike about the product?
The only dissadvantage I find in its cloud-based system is that there’s no offline mode to work in case of connectivity issues. Also, some traditional CAT tool features like advanced filtering and batch editing are less developed.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Smartling's optimized workflows and automated processes help me complete translations faster and more efficiently. Using TM and glossaries, I can ensure consistency across projects, speed up translation, and reduce redundant and repetitive work. Built-in QA checks, style guides, in-context previews and validation tools help me to catch errors early, improving translation accuracy. My experience is that PMs and translators can to work together and track work progress in real-time, streamlining communication and feedback, which highly contributes to meeting deadlines.
A great AI solution for translation
What do you like best about the product?
I love the accuracy of Smartling's MT. It's top-notch and easily competing with the best MTPE tools. The team always replies to questions promptly. The tool is very easy to implement, integrate and utilize in a translation workflow. I use Smartling daily.
What do you dislike about the product?
I dislike the Validation matches as it lowers the average pay per translated word. Otherwise not much to say.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Smartling supplies me steady work and solves e.g. the issue of bad MT by providing great MT and service.
Very nice, streamlined, fair freelancer experience
What do you like best about the product?
The highly automated experience, particularly the distribution of translation jobs, and that you're able to decline when your plans change.
What do you dislike about the product?
Within the editor, it's sometimes a little difficult to jump between segments when using a mouse. Sometimes you end up at the beginning of a segment, sometimes at the end of it.
Tag placement within the editor is a bit clunky at times, the new version too. It would be nice to be able to cut out and paste individual tags without the second tag of the pair disappearing.
Also, a dark mode would be very beneficial, for the editor at least.

What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It makes accepting jobs very easy, usually only requiring "manual" email communication in the case of deadline adjustments. That saves me a lot of time and gives me the flexibility to pick the jobs that best fit my schedule at the time.
Pros and cons of working with Smartling
What do you like best about the product?
User-friendly platform, always available.
What do you dislike about the product?
Large projects can make it run a bit slow.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Professional translation as a freelance translator. Smartling is one of my main sources of income nowadays.
Effective and reliable Translation Management Platform
What do you like best about the product?
Smartling is one of my favorite Translation Management Platforms. I use it on a daily basis and, overall, I am very satisfied with it. Translation and proofreading projects are easy to manage, and project managers are always prompt in answering my questions, no matter the topic (project-specific, billing, or other). The machine translations provided in the Editor are above average in quality. Additionally, the Concordance Search function is user-friendly and effective.
What do you dislike about the product?
If I have specific questions regarding a translation, it sometimes takes several days to receive a response from clients. Additionally, there is a significant number of projects consisting of only a few words. In such cases, logging in and opening the Editor often takes more time than completing the actual translation.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I can manage translations, ask clients questions that arise during the process, and handle billing all on a centralized platform. The machine translations available in the Editor significantly speed up my workflow.
Working for Smartling has been a great experience — professional, reliable, and always supportive.
What do you like best about the product?
What I appreciate most about Smartling is their intuitive platform and smooth workflow, which makes managing projects easy and efficient.
What do you dislike about the product?
There’s really very little to dislike, but if I had to mention something, I would say longer deadlines are always a good thing.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Smartling streamlines translation and editing processes, making it easier to manage projects and communicate effectively, which helps me work more efficiently.
