User-friendly platform
What do you like best about the product?
That it is very easy to use the first time
What do you dislike about the product?
It should have more keyboard shortcuts, for example, to insert a word from the glossary AI translation and Validation tools don't work really well, I cannot trust them yet.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It facilitates team work and terminology management

What do you like best about the product?
The platform is always up to date with the newest features available on the market. It has an intuitive interface with lots of integrated functions. The communication with the other team members is simple and effective.

The integrated AI suggestions are still far from a human quality translation.

With Smartling the process of translation is streamlined and accelerated.
Pros and Cons of Smartling
What do you like best about the product?
What I appreciate most about Smartling is the variety of projects I have the opportunity to work on and the project managers' availability. I also appreciate the fact that feedback from end clients is often shared, which helps in the process of professional growth and improvement.
What do you dislike about the product?
I dislike the fact that I often can't accept some projects because, by the time I receive the email that a project is available, it has already been assigned to another resource. At this point, it would probably be more effective to assign a project to a particular resource by default, and in the event of its unavailability, reassign it by waiving the first claimed policy.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It streamlines translation and revision work

What do you like best about the product?
I have used Smartling as one of its linguists almost for a decade every day, and find it useful in terms of facilitating linguistic workflow.
The point which I like most is that the platform eliminates the need for e-mail communication when accepting or declining work. The platform itself is intuitive and doesn’t require much training.

What do you dislike about the product?
Quality of AI base translation varies by language pairs.
Improper settings by the clients or glossary terms often affect linguistic works negatively, so there should be functions which allows linguists flagging of these to inform clients in the platform.
There should be notification settings to opt-out unneeded general notification (Today’s jobs, etc.).

What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
In addition to providing me with the tool for executing and delivering linguistic works, Smartling helps me to solve problems related to peripheral tasks including communicating with clients and invoicing.
Easy to use once getting used to it
What do you like best about the product?
- It's easy to check past translations with translation memory. It’s very important for ensuring consistency in translation.
- Context screen is helpful to review the translated content within its context.
- QA report is helpful to review my translation after initial translation is completed. it is easy to read because all tags are removed from original strings.

What do you dislike about the product?
- When the translation target is large, limitations on search and replace appear.
- When I click through the strings in order on the main window while checking my translation with the context window, the context window sometimes show the completely different location. It is a little bit troublesome when reviewing translation, but not critical.

I can save some time to input translation when AI translation is accurate. However, I think accuracy might depends on the job and related past translation.
I use Smartling for translation, proofreading, and sometimes for MTPE.
What do you like best about the product?
It is an online CAT tool that is easy and quick to get started with. The ability to see the texts to be translated in context is convenient. The ability to search in multilingual TMs is convenient. I use it daily. Customer support is available.
What do you dislike about the product?
The current interface is less practical and intuitive for translators (see filtering to open multiple projects from the same sub-account at once). Opening many small projects from the same sub-account at once and the arrival template take longer to download (even with a good Internet connection), there is no longer any division of long content into pages, which is less effective in terms of navigation and considerably slows down the translation/review effort because you have to scroll to move from one segment to another, and there is no longer the page division that allowed for page jumps. In French, we need to add non-breaking spaces and the software marks this as an error. It takes time to remove the false error message for each string.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The advantage of online CAT tools is that there is no need to install anything locally. The ability to connect to projects from the office, home, or on the go (while respecting confidentiality) is very convenient. There is also two-factor authentication and scheduled password changes, which are practical. Access to the general TM is very convenient, compared to some projects/clients that only work with restricted project TMs.
Intuitive and Easy to Understand
What do you like best about the product?
I have been working with Smartling for over 5 years and I understand more and more that it is one of the easiest online tools to use and that causes the least problems for the translator. The work flows smoothly.
What do you dislike about the product?
The glossary doesn't have much information, it could be a little broader and complete and not just have a specific translation of a word.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
An online and reliable tool is much better to work with, because then I only need my notebook and a good internet connection. There is no need to install neither updates. Communication with the staff is always quick too.

What do you like best about the product?
What I like is the short segmentations, I believe it is easier to translate and process MT translations.
What do you dislike about the product?
It is not easy when it comes to see the layout and context where these segments are inserted.

Experience with using Smartling as a translator
What do you like best about the product?
Smartling is very user friendly and intuitive. As a translation resource, I can simply log on to see the jobs I was assigned. The CAT tool is very easy to use and straightfoward. It has all the useful features we need to deliver accurate translations (context view, glossary, Translation memories, issues). The UI is simple but effective. I use Smartling every day and I rarely encounter issues.
What do you dislike about the product?
I've difficulty understanding on which workflow I'm working. I think the colors and names used on the dashboard view are not enough to indicate clearly which workflow is used for each job. For example, what is the difference between AI Review and Linguist Review? Why does Foundation appears as Translation? It would be nice if we could know more clearly which rate will be applied to a job before starting working on it.
We don't have a direct contact with project managers and usually have to wait several hours before receiving an answer to our emails, which is a problem when there is an urgent deadline.
Also, it would be nice to have a feature directly on the dashboard to request a deadline extension.

What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Smartling allows me to complete my work easily on a user friendly plateform. I can easily view the tasks I've to complete and decline some if I don't have enough availability.
I appreciate the fact that I don't have to spend time exchanging many emails with a project manager to see if I can handle a task. It shows up directly on my dashboard and I can decide if I want to keep it or decline it.

Smartling is a very good place to work.
What do you like best about the product?
As vendor, you can rest assured that your queries will be answered in a very short time... and your payment will come through as agreed. The platform is easy to use and very intuitive.
What do you dislike about the product?
I'd like to have more updates about the team, especially when one PM with whom we engage every day leaves the company.

The translation workflow is automatically taken care of for you. You don't have to worry about anything along the way.
