Good platform to work in
What do you like best about the product?
The platform is very user-friendly and you can easily view TM, glossary entries and other attachments to use as reference for your translation. The Context options is very helpful as it lets you view the way your translation will be shown in the webpage and adjust it if needed. You can also easily open an issue to ask for clarification or review on lines for which you need additional context or other relevant information and see whether other translators did as well.
What do you dislike about the product?
Some technical issues (e.g. with partial matches to the TM not showing up in the translation and unsaved changes randomly popping up) could be improved.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It provides me with a free platform on which I can translate with almost no issue and any issue can be quickly and easily fixed by the Project Management or the client. In the past, many clients expected you to pay for platforms or software in order to work, so I feel like this is really helping me getting more work overall. Its tools also help me provide a better, quality translation in less time.
Enhancing Workflow Efficiency for Linguists
What do you like best about the product?
1. Clean and user-friendly interface.
2. Intuitive design for core functions—easy for new users to get started quickly.
2. Intuitive design for core functions—easy for new users to get started quickly.
What do you dislike about the product?
1. The current default sorting on the dashboard is based on the Overall Job Due Date, which is helpful for PMs, but not ideal for linguists. For us, sorting by Task Due Date is more practical, as it helps us easily find the next most urgent task after submitting a job. It would be great if the default sorting behavior could be optimized by user role—PMs see jobs by Overall Job Due Date, while linguists see them by Task Due Date.
2. It would be helpful to have an option to automatically open the next latest-due task after submitting a job.
3. After submitting a job, the confirmation window should also display the total earnings for that job. This would make it easier to verify the pay and take a screenshot if any issue arises.
4. When leaving comments, it would be useful if the system could automatically include the target language, so reviewers know which language is rising the issue .
5. For job feedback emails, clicking through to Smartling often shows no information about string changes. Even using filters doesn’t always surface the relevant content, which makes it hard to improve based on feedback efficiently.

What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Clean and user-friendly interface.
Smartling is a great platform for translators, and I've been working on it since February 2017.
What do you like best about the product?
Clear and intuitive interface, as well as the ability to create issues, which allows direct communication with the client and helps clarify questions when context is missing in the content.
What do you dislike about the product?
I didn’t like the default keyboard shortcuts, but that’s a minor issue since they can be customized. Other than that, I don’t see any major drawbacks.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
To be honest, Smartling isn’t really solving any problems for me personally, as I’m a freelance translator and use it simply as a tool to work for my clients. If a client prefers to work on this platform, it’s a pleasure for me to use it – but it’s not about solving a specific problem. I think this question is more relevant for translation agencies than for individual freelancers like me.

What do you like best about the product?
The features are easily accessible from translation panel, so you don't need to change windows, which makes the whole process faster.
What do you dislike about the product?
You need to click on glossary suggestions that appear while typing. I would prefer to use a key stroke.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It helps me focus in what matters the most, which is the translation task, saving me time as everything is in the same place.
A very convenient translation collaboration platform
What do you like best about the product?
Smartling offers convenient translation collaboration with clear visibility into TMs, glossaries, and resources, along with easy comment submission during translation.
What do you dislike about the product?
The "first-come-first-served" project claim model can be challenging. Despite my extensive translation experience (4,000+ words/day with consistent quality), I often miss projects even when clicking instantly upon notification.
I hope to see more assigned projects in the future to better leverage my expertise.
I hope to see more assigned projects in the future to better leverage my expertise.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Centralized resource access: It integrates translation memories (TMs), glossaries, and contextual assets in one platform, eliminating fragmented workflows and ensuring terminology consistency.
Streamlined collaboration: Real-time commenting and feedback features simplify communication.

A Robust Translation Platform with Powerful Features
What do you like best about the product?
Smartling’s AI-powered TM matches from past translations, even adapting to context. It reduces repetitive typing, ensuring consistency and saving time. Automated scans detect spelling errors, inconsistent terminology, and formatting issues (e.g., missing placeholders).
What do you dislike about the product?
Over-reliance on TM suggestions can sometimes stifle creativity for literary or marketing translations.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It stores all previously translated content, ensuring the same terms are reused across projects, so I can spend less time correcting inconsistencies and more on creative translation. It flags spelling errors, inconsistent terminology, and formatting issues, helping me, as a translator working of the platfrom to achieve the best quality of my translation.
Improved Experience. Intuitive UI
What do you like best about the product?
It is easy to use, and the User Interface is really smooth. I feel comfortable using it, unlike some other CAT tools
What do you dislike about the product?
More shortcuts and the ability to work on it offline
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I get a lot of text to translate, and it makes my work much easier
Smartling is my Favorite CAT Tool
What do you like best about the product?
The Smartling Tool is very intuitive, quick and efficient. I have been using it extensively for several years and prefer it above all others. The display is clear, all tools are easy to reach and use, personal preferences are a cinch to adjust. Smartling support is very friendly and accessible. The process of accepting jobs and monitoring progress is very efficient and straightforward.
What do you dislike about the product?
In addition to the existing option to add words to a personal dictionary, I would like the option to add, develop and save personal glossary/ies in addition to the one provided by the clent for a given project or job.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Easy acces to translation jobs, efficient work, monitoring of progress. Possibility to customize the tool to my preferences.
Easier to Use Compared to Other Online CAT Tools
What do you like best about the product?
Smartling is a very intuitive and user-friendly CAT tool. The interface is clean and easy to navigate, with features like Content, Search TM, and Glossary neatly organized into separate tabs, making each function easily accessible. Opening issues is also simple, and the overall layout is easy on the eyes. One of the biggest advantages is the notification settings—each user account can customize them in detail, which is a huge plus.
What do you dislike about the product?
Occasionally, I notice that relevant translation memories appear in Search TM but don’t show up in the right-side panel. It’s a minor issue, but it can be a little confusing at times.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
As a freelance translator, I really appreciate that I don’t need to download any materials each time I work on a project—everything is accessible directly in the platform. Another big benefit is the ability to access Smartling from my smartphone, which allows me to quickly check assigned projects or available ones to be claimed even while I’m on the go.
