User friendly CAT tool that speeds up the workflow
What do you like best about the product?
Very user friendly CAT tool with most of the features you need. I have been using Smartling on a day to day basis for the last 3 years, and I'm very happy with how easy it is to use and how well it performs.
What do you dislike about the product?
The preview function doesn't always show the relevant strings or sometimes doesn't work as expected.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It speeds up the workflow with helpful MT and AI translations alongside TM matches, propagating all segments in a way that some CAT tools doesn't.
It is a user-friendly CAT tool
What do you like best about the product?
The TM, glossary and workbench in general is at hand, you don't need to open other tabs. The QA process is very helpful.
What do you dislike about the product?
Honestly, there's nothing I actively dislike about Smartling. It’s a solid, intuitive platform that supports my workflow very well.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Smartling helps streamline the translation process by centralizing content, providing clear context, and enabling efficient collaboration with project managers and other translators. It reduces manual work, ensures consistency with translation memory and glossaries, and speeds up delivery times. As a translator, it helps me focus on quality by giving me the tools and context I need to work efficiently and accurately.
Intuitive, fast, and user-friendly localization platform
What do you like best about the product?
As a translator, I really appreciate how Smartling is designed with usability in mind. The interface is clean, fast, and intuitive — it's easy to navigate between strings, use the translation memory, and check context through visual previews. The built-in QA checks are helpful for catching errors early, and I like how the platform supports both machine and human translation in a seamless way. Terminology management and real-time collaboration features make the workflow much more efficient. Overall, Smartling helps me focus on the quality of my work without getting lost in technicalities.
What do you dislike about the product?
Some advanced features — like context integration or visual mode — may require a bit of time to fully understand or are sometimes inconsistent across projects. Also, the platform occasionally feels a bit heavy when working with very large projects or slow connections, but it's generally stable and reliable.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Smartling helps streamline and centralize the entire translation process. Instead of juggling multiple files, emails, and tools, I can work directly in one platform that connects everyone involved — project managers, developers, and translators. This eliminates confusion, reduces delays, and ensures consistency across all content. Features like translation memory, glossary enforcement, and visual context improve both speed and quality, allowing me to focus on accurate and context-aware translations. As a translator, this means less guesswork and more time spent on actual translation.
Amazing platform. Great people behind it. A pleasure to work with.
What do you like best about the product?
It really feels like a next-gen CAT tool. Everything integrates well and intuitively. I really dislike going back to Trados or MemoQ now.
What do you dislike about the product?
There are 4 things that I dislike:
1. When I hover over a glossary term in the source near the top of the page, the pop-up disappears behind the top pane (job briefing, context, etc.). This requires me to scroll up to see the glossary entry. It would be much more practical if the popup appeared over the top pane instead of disappearing behind it.
2. I'm not a fan of the billing page. It's very hard to check exactly how much I'm getting paid per job, because each job is split into the various weights and no total per job is stated. The quickest way to keep track of the per-job pay is to refresh the billing page a couple of minutes after completing a job and writing down the difference of the total. There should definitely be a more practical/automated way of doing this.
3. The most important one, but likely a client-side issue: the fact that segments aren't usually organized in the same order as in the underlying document. This removes context, and when sentences are split into multiple segments, and then not shown in the correct order, it costs everyone a lot of time communicating back and forth about the context of each partial sentence, especially if there's no screenshot available in the context pane showing the full sentence.
I'm sure there's a good reason for this, but I thought I would mention it anyway because solving it would result in the largest quality and efficiency improvement, in my opinion. If this is strictly a client-side issue, I would urge all clients to keep segments in the correct order as much as possible for optimal quality and efficiency, and to provide screenshots in the context pane whenever possible.
4. This is also a client-side issue, but because it's such a frequent one, I thought I would include it too. Perhaps clients can be urged to pay closer attention to this. It's about the context added per segment in the translation pane. The information entered there is often entirely useless. Especially when no screenshot is available in the context pane. This is causing a large portion of messages back and forth with clients, so making these entries more relevant to the translator would greatly improve efficiency and overall quality.

What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Honestly, the most important problem Smartling is solving, is offering me enough work. The CAT tool is better than others, but it doesn't solve any problems for me that other CAT tools don't solve as well.
Excellent platform and company

What do you dislike about the product?
So far I don't have anything negative to say about Smartling.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I work on several accounts on Smartling, and the work is very well organized thanks to TMs, glossaries and style guided available directly in-platform.

The Smartling platform streamlines the localization processes and utilizes features of CAT-tools, translation memories, term bases, machine translation, etc. to ensure the predictably-high level of localization of every project.

An excellent client with excellent software
What do you like best about the product?
I have been using Smartling for over 10 years and have been a vendor for over 5 years. I have used countless CAT tools throughout my career, and I have to say that Smartling has always been one of the best, if not the absolute best, and I am not at all surprised that it is so widely used. As a supplier, I appreciate the excellent support and thoughtful project management, which makes our collaboration a breeze. And their machine-translation engine is one of the very best, too.
What do you dislike about the product?
Occasional authentication issues when opening multiple tasks simultaneously, but these are very rare (and I am being a stickler here).
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It provides all the tools and procedures needed to support the translation process, so I can focus on the content without distractions.
A Reliable and User-Friendly Translation Platform
What do you like best about the product?
I have been using Smartling for the past three years, and it has consistently proven to be a reliable and user-friendly platform. Everything is easy to access, and the interface makes navigation smooth and intuitive. One of the features I appreciate the most is the seamless integration of machine translation, which saves a lot of time while still allowing for high-quality output. The platform also provides a very clear overview of completed work and invoices, which makes project tracking and reporting straightforward. Overall, Smartling has made my daily work much more efficient, and I truly value how well it balances simplicity with powerful functionality.
What do you dislike about the product?
There’s nothing I particularly dislike about Smartling at the moment.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Smartling makes my translation process faster and more efficient, while still helping me ensure the highest quality. It also allows me to easily check and maintain the quality of translations across the whole team, which improves consistency and overall results.
One of the most innovative CAT Tools out there
What do you like best about the product?
As a translator, I find Smartling quite intuitive! The ease of navigating TMs as well as seeing the attached context for most of the strings makes my job easier.
What do you dislike about the product?
I just wish it was a lot easier to access the submitted work in case I need to modify the translations, because there are times when I start working on a new job to only realize that there are something related in the past jobs that would need to be changed. Clients often demand consistency, but it's hard if the translations that should be updated were done years ago, because languages evolve over time.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Honestly, as a translator, the only noticeable upgrade within the past couple years was the context tab inside the CAT Tool.
