Great client to work for

  • September 08, 2025
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I like the variety of end clients, the variety of jobs I get. It's a mix of small jobs and bigger jobs, which is nice. Small jobs don't take up more time than they should, as they're just a click away in the dashboard, with no extra steps required. Jobs are assigned automatically, no emailing back and forth needed, and you don't miss work because you're not always monitoring your email. Declining jobs you can't handle is easy and nobody faults you, and you can mark yourself unavailable whenever you need a break or can't handle any more work.
The platform is easy to use, the translation process is straightforward in a decent online CAT tool, which TM, MT, AI and a glossary being available. Instructions and style guides are usually available with every task, just a button click away. A preview is often available, giving you the right context for each string. And if that's not enough, context/instructions per string are often also available.
The CAT tool is fast enough, faster than any other CAT tool I've used (which all sometimes have trouble keeping up with my pace).
Invoicing and payment is automatic, all you have to do is download your monthly invoice for your own administration.
What do you dislike about the product?
I don't always like the direct assignment of jobs, without checking my availability first. It can become too much, because you also have work from other clients, or because Smartling is just assigning too much too fast. Whatever you can't handle, can be declined though, and you can pause assignment altogether.
The only payment option available is Veem, from which you have to forward your money to your own bank account. Really wish they'd provide more options, at least bank transfer (a local bank transfer to a Wise account is free!)
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I'm a translator, I just get work from Smartling and do it in their tool. Smartling doesn't solve any problems for me that I didn't already have solutions for.

    Translation and Localization

The interface is simple, making it user-friendly.

  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The interface is straightforward and user-friendly.
What do you dislike about the product?
On the right side of the screen, where the translation memory options appear, it takes up too much screen space.

When viewing the context tab, the highlight used to be yellow, but now it’s blue, which makes checking the context uncomfortable for the eyes.

The lack of an option to create a personal translation memory.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It helps maintain translation consistency when more than one translator is working on the same project.

    Public Relations and Communications

I think Smartling is generally very useful for managing translations.

What do you like best about the product?
You can see the list of jobs at a glance, and searching makes management convenient.
What do you dislike about the product?
The admin interface is difficult to use. Previously, clicking on a job would display a job tile, allowing you to go directly to the screen where you could view the strings. Now, that’s no longer possible, which is inconvenient.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are able to centrally oversee multiple translation projects that are running concurrently.

What do you like best about the product?
I've been using the software for a long time, so I'm used to it. It's pretty easy to use it.
What do you dislike about the product?
I wish there is a Japanese spelling check feature.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I am not sure if it's benefiting me.

AI and humans working together - as it should be

  • September 07, 2025
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I enjoy working with Smartling because I don't only work on a very good platform but I get to work with real people.
The platform itself is easy to use. Getting the right glossary terms recommended is extremely helpful. While the AI translation is not always 100% right, it does make most jobs much easier.
What I enjoy most is the team behind the platform, though, because I feel taken seriously. We can actually discuss options for translations that benefit the end client, not just the platform's customers.
What do you dislike about the product?
It can happen that the system gets slowed down when there is a huge amount of traffic and you're working on a very large file. Those are extremely rare, so this is usually not an issue at all.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The smooth integration of the TM means that translations are consistent across jobs. That is very important. The AI feature can help with formatting numbers, which it can do much quicker than a human translator. The quality checks help deliver the best translation possible.

Smartling: intuitive, efficient, and truly translator-friendly

  • September 07, 2025
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
As a translator, I find Smartling genuinely intuitive to work in. The CAT Tool is clean and easy to navigate, and the visual context is especially valuable: seeing each string in its real placement helps me avoid context-related mistranslations and inconsistencies, and catch punctuation or spacing issues, unnecessary repetitions, and any formatting tags (bold, underline, etc.) that need attention before delivery. Collaboration is smooth thanks to the Issues feature, which lets me raise questions right inside the job and keep a clear, searchable thread with project managers or the client. Having the glossary and translation memory at hand keeps terminology consistent and saves time, and the built-in quality checks flag problems early so I can ship polished work faster. Overall, Smartling brings together ease of use, context, and collaboration in a way that supports quality and efficiency.
What do you dislike about the product?
Honestly, there's nothing I dislike—it works exactly how I need it to.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Smartling centralizes my workflow so I don't have to juggle files, emails, and scattered tools, which speeds things up and keeps projects consistent. The Visual Context and the Issues feature give me the right context and a clear place to ask questions inside the job, reducing back-and-forth and errors. The built-in glossary and translation memory keep terminology aligned and cut repetitive work. And importantly, clients can upload reference files as job attachments, so I can consult specs, screenshots, or style guides right in the CAT Tool—another big quality and efficiency boost.

What do you like best about the product?
I've been using Smartling every day for over 5 years now, and it has been a wonderful experience. The tool is very intuitive and easy to use. Features such as machine or AI-powered translation, translation memory, glossary, and quality checks help improve productivity and ensure consistent, high-quality work. I find the Context tab extremely useful for providing accurate translations. Additionally, it allows you to submit queries, receive notifications, and even handle billing, which saves a lot of time.

In short, it's a comprehensive and reliable CAT tool, and the team's support is excellent!
What do you dislike about the product?
Honestly, there's nothing I dislike about it.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Smartling helps me work more efficiently, maintain consistency across jobs, and ensure the accuracy and quality of my translations.

A Complete and Intuitive Platform for Seamless Localization

  • September 05, 2025
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Smartling is a very complete and intuitive platform that makes project management smooth and efficient. It centralizes everything we need, from translation memory and glossaries to QA checks, automated workflows, and real-time project tracking. The ease of use stands out, even for new team members who can quickly get familiar with the system.
Integrations are seamless, which saves time and reduces manual work. Their project managers are also a huge plus: communication is always clear, fast, and collaborative.
What do you dislike about the product?
There's very little to dislike, but if I had to mention something, it would be that because the platform has so many features, it sometimes takes a bit of time to discover everything it can do. A few more step-by-step guides or in-app tooltips for new functionalities would make onboarding even easier.

That said, Smartling's customer support is excellent: responsive, knowledgeable, and always willing to help, which more than compensates for this.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Smartling helps manage multilingual content at scale by centralizing workflows, ensuring consistency, and reducing manual effort. It streamlines file handling, translation memory leverage, glossary application, and QA checks, which means we can deliver faster without sacrificing quality.
The platform also provides real-time visibility into project status, making it easier to track progress and collaborate with clients.
From a business perspective, this translates into improved efficiency, higher quality output, and a stronger ability to meet tight deadlines.

What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Smartling improved MTPE with AI, resulting in faster and more efficient job deliveries.
