An excellent Email Security and Threat Protection solution.
What do you like best about the product?
The granularity with which we can manage users, groups of users and how they interact with the system by setting up notifications of quarantines, journals of held emails or even just tagging on email delivered to their mailbox depending on their level of sophistication or work function and needs. We also appreciate the ability to watch for outgoing PII or PHI in order to place holds on potential information leaving our environment. This is only a little bit of what you can do with Mimecast's solution because it is so highly customizable. Mimecast is always ready to help with guides, instruction and web based learning.
What do you dislike about the product?
Because of the level of granularity and customization it is sometimes not super intuitive but there are always trade-offs.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Automated classification and holds of potential PII and PHI leaving our environment. Compliance tracking. Customized user templates for different usage styles and capabilities. Reduction and control of unnecessary email, phishing attempts and malicious content.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
I'd highly suggest giving it a short or Demoing it. You can't go wrong using Mimecast to get better control and protection. They also have secure mail options so that people outside your organization can access emails that you need tighter control for. While their documentation is top notch, don't be afraid to ask questions on how to do things. They'll point your in the right direction or walk you through what needs to be done.
Mimecast does a lot of things great with a few minor annoyances
What do you like best about the product?
I like how Mimecast gives you a lot of control over various policies and definitions.
What do you dislike about the product?
There's a few things that can be annoying... For example, the Greylisting feature requires previously unknown senders to retry messages to verify RFC compliance. A lot of OTP servers are not RFC compliant apparently which causes those messages to be rejected. These emails come from randomized email addresses, so you're unable to add them to you permitted senders list. The issue could be avoided if the Greylisting feature had an option to hold the email for review instead of flat out rejecting them.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Email protection, one benefit is knowing that if Mimecast says the email is safe it probably is. There is a lot of scanning that goes on behind the scenes and it gives peace of mind.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Take your time in implementing and do a lot of testing.
Great Product for Phishing Scams and Email Threats - YS at OCBF
What do you like best about the product?
I like that you can get tips about email threats like Phishing. The Administrator console has so many features that are so easy to understand. The messaging feature makes it easy to find any particular email that you are looking for, searching by the hour, day, month or a customized date range. It is just organized very well.
What do you dislike about the product?
The search feature sometimes takes a couple of tries to find what you are looking for. I usually can find a great document on any mimecast issue in the Mimecast community as well.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The multi-layered protection against phishing email security issues is fantastic. Our users are learning to think first before clicking, especially for email with known staff names. It trains them to hover over the email address, allowing them to see that the email address is not from our company domain, but from an impostor.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Be prepared to ask questions related to your business model.
Good reliable product
What do you like best about the product?
The various tools available and how they are organized for easy access
What do you dislike about the product?
Some of the configurations can be quite complex to do and the help articles are sometimes hard to follow
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The ability to look back at emails using the Archive Search tool has really helped us countless times now
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Mimecast seems like it works for organizations big and small and has worked out really well for us
Great granular product with top-notch US-based customer support
What do you like best about the product?
The effectiveness of the product in catching the bad stuff, and the extreme granular configuration. I have never said, "I wish Mimecast did _____". Aside from the product itself, I feel the part that is hard to know before it is used is the quality of customer support. Something will go sideways at some point, and they have people in the US that are available on the phone. They have ALWAYS been super helpful. As many other companies have "simplified" the configuration, I feel Mimecast has held it's ground in areas other companies have dumbed us down with taking away granular controls.
What do you dislike about the product?
Sometimes to find a particular setting in the menus isn't intuitive. I have called a handful of times just to ask where something is located in the menu tree. Searching for it didn't produce the results I was looking for. Terminology used in the application is sometimes similar to other things in the application, and is easily confusing. Mimecast is VERY technical, which I appreciate, so this isn't particularly a negative against Mimecast, but this product is not for the faint of heart.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Continuity, and also immediate and automatic email archiving. Email will go down some time. I realized later on that this also serves as a good point of reference for troubleshooting email flow. If the inbound queue is high, it is likely a problem on our side. Also, educating our end-users and other companies about ways they should better protect and secure their email services.
Mimecast email security works fairly well for us and meets most of our expectations.
What do you like best about the product?
I like the impersonation detection feature.
What do you dislike about the product?
The impersonation detection is not 100%. At times emails slip through that should be blocked.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Blocking viruses, impersonation attacks, ransomware attacks, spam.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
I recommend this product to others considering email security and threat protection. I like this product and the possibilities and options it offers. In comparison to other similar leading products, this product does hold it's own high standards.

What do you like best about the product?
Easy to navigate user interface, conversion of common business documents (PDF/DOCX/XLSX) to safe formats.
What do you dislike about the product?
There are no downsides of using the product.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Email-based threats such as weaponized email attachments and phishing attempts.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
When evaluating other products against Mimecast I used the following criteria...
* Cloud-Based – Look for one that has a “DR mode” or “maintenance mode” so you are have your mail server down, the cloud service will still accept mail and queue it for you.
* The capability of email archiving – You may not need it now but nice to be able to turn it on if you need it.
* Works with on-prem mail server or cloud-based (O365)
* Provides an easy way for users to review their spam folder
* Integrates with identity management solution (AD)
* Provides reporting on email blocked and the reasons why (RBL, virus’s, etc)
* Provides anti-spam, anti-virus/malware, URL protection, impersonation protection
* Look at pricing. Some are priced per user and some are per mailbox
* Can attachments be blocked base on type and/or size?
* Will the solution support multiple email domains?

Great Email Protection and Service
What do you like best about the product?
Spam and malicious email blocking. I never realize how much crap gets sent to us that we never see until I go into the admin console and see them.
What do you dislike about the product?
The admin console is cumbersome to use. If I want to look at Attachment Protect, if have to go to multiple locations depending on if I want to release an attachment, setup a policy, or reporting.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
All kinds! Spam and malicious email blocking, protection again bad attachments, URL protection, spoofing protection, etc...
Recommendations to others considering the product:
I highly recommend following the advice and settings from their implementation tame and their support team. They have a great support staff that will see you through implementation, changes you want to make, or troubleshooting issues you have. Also, they have a very extensive knowledge and documentation site that has a lot of good information. Not only with how to configure or setup their products, but also general email and security information. I really didn't know how email and security all worked together (What's a SPF record?). But I learned more about it through their site.
Plenty of options, but clunky admin site.
What do you like best about the product?
The options and security offered by the product.
What do you dislike about the product?
The admin site is not very user friendly, tends to be slow, and isn't very straightforward.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We see far fewer inquiries from users now that Mimecast checks each message, protects the links, and scans attachments.
Mimecast blocks too many emails without notification or a way to review what was blocked
What do you like best about the product?
I can remotely log into my email account
What do you dislike about the product?
It takes too long for emails to be released or to receive notification that an email is blocked
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Blocking unwanted emails is helpful
