data extraction

  • August 09, 2021
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
allows us to track data flow and map to perform analysis. we used Fivetran for Snowflake implementation to bring in data around Salesforce opportunities and sales renewals and was able to create a dashboard from this data
What do you dislike about the product?
Data extractions are more manual than automatic.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are currently using it to create a sales dashboard and funnel with live features. The ability to see data in a different way has been a large benefit
Recommendations to others considering the product:

Great number of connectors, straightforward and easy to optimize pricing

  • August 05, 2021
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Very easy to get started, large number of well maintained connectors, and good support
What do you dislike about the product?
Transformations product is not very well developed, not allowing me to use Fivetran to cover more of the data value chain
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Fetching data from SaaS services, not having to maintain API contracts for these services saves engineering time.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Ensure that you have enough connector coverage into your needs, and also be careful about varying row counts (Segment is going to be notoriously expensive compared to a snapshot view like for Shopify or some other SaaS tool).

Intuitive, user-friendly tool but with limitations to the more tech-savvy at a high price point

  • August 05, 2021
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The ability to set and forget with Fivetran.
What do you dislike about the product?
Fivetran is too costly. Pricing can balloon very quickly.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We solved some of our data access and integration problems. Benefits realized were making data accessible, standardized, and removing the need to hard-code pipelines.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Be weary of the cost of Fivetran, it can balloon quickly. However, it is one of, if not the most user-friendly tool on the market for ELT.

Great options for syncing databases

  • August 04, 2021
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Easy to use overall and to set up new connections. The layout makes it clear what the schedule is and where errors have happened.
What do you dislike about the product?
The pricing for flat files is not what we expected going into it. Because flat files do not have primary keys, every row in a flat file counts as a MAR every month, meaning you continue to pay for historical data throughout the year. This means the cost of some of our syncs are ~10x more than we expected going into it.

The advertised connections by Fivetran may be limited to either being a source or destination, but you do not know that until signing up and getting into the system. For example, Google Cloud Storage is currently a source but cannot be a destination.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Combining data from many different sources (flat files in SFTP, databases, etc.) into both a data lake and warehouse.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Consider a comprehensive list of required connections, both sources and destinations, current and future, before finding a suitable iPaaS solution.

Easy to use, intuitive tool

  • April 21, 2021
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The interface is clean. It's a very easy-to-use, intuitive tool, and you don't even need to look for documentation when setting up a new connection, it's right there for you.
What do you dislike about the product?
The schema is helpful, but I'd like it even better if the schema also provides additional information about the definitions of tables and columns, what they are intended for. Troubleshooting is difficult. When I notice data discrepancy, I don't see a lot of options other than resyncing historical data.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Pipe data from different sources to destinations

Fivetran is good at its *very* limited functionality

  • April 20, 2021
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
It is pretty painless setting up Fivetran connectors to sync from virtually any kind of database to our GBQ - Our turnaround time typically is less than a few days to get a sync up and running. It's dashboard is super user friendly and easy to navigate, and my favorite feature is definitely the ability to create tables, and upload CSV's directly through the dashboard.
What do you dislike about the product?
Their new pricing model which is a sort of "pay per usage" is very confusing and has caused us several pain points in performing mass updates to our data for fear of going over our update quota for a month. What's more - it's syncing functionality from Salesforce (or any equivalent structure of data that rolls up into other fields) runs into *many* syncing issues when data is updated higher up the stream but the updates don't trickle down.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We're trying to solve the problem of having way too many data sources feeding into our dashboards and visualizations. Prior to using Fivetran, we would have to export CSV's from our multiple sources and open up a Jupyter notebook (or even worse - Excel), and combine them all together in order to get a decent analysis. We use FiveTran to sync all those sources to just one primary data warehouse and we then use another tool to query whatever we want.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Do not use Fivetran if you are in need of something that has data transform capabilities. If you have data that is already cleaned and structured and you just need to consolidate the data in one place, then Fivetran is your tool. If you have a complicated database structure, you may need to have several monitoring checks in place to ensure that your data is syncing correctly.

Fivetran - The replication, the support, and the billing

  • April 19, 2021
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The Fivetran UI is very well done with many configuration options for your replication. The connection setup is well documented and easy to utilize.
What do you dislike about the product?
The customer support dept is not always responsive, sometimes their replies take awhile to come back and the only option is email support. The way the billing is handled with MARs and the way they apply credits is not always what it appears in the documentation. There is more to it once you are able to dig in with a developer.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We have our Netsuite accounting data (Oracle database in the cloud) replicated to a SQL Server DB for reporting.

Mixed connector quality, but fairly high reliability overall. Support has improved a lot.

  • April 17, 2021
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Some of their data sources are very high quality. The google sheets connector easy to use and much betetr than stitch. The braintree transactions connector is good as well. The netsuite connector requires a more expensive addon for netsuite, however it does have good quality data so it may be worth it.
What do you dislike about the product?
Some connectors are outdated and missing columns; sometimes connectors fail for days straight, support is terrible, and the communication in general from Fivetran leaves a lot to be desired. I want more control over setting sync schedules for my pipelines. The email notifications that come with the starter plan aren't really good. The alerts are noisy as some connectors, depedning on sync frequency, will always be delayed. They should recommend different sync times. Slack should be available for every account. API access is only available with more expensive plans which isn't great for us.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We use a few datasets for critical operational functions, and Fivetran has allowed us to deprecate our internal pipelines. Some of these datasets are high quality and reliable. The google sheets connector is excellent, and business users are able to use it to get data into our data warehouse.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Check the ERDs in detail before migrating a connector. Ask about product roadmaps. Make feature requests ahead of contract signing. Ask about support and protections they have for your data. We had a lot of issues with their support and cost us a lot of time and money. They recently promised to complete revamp their support processes and policies, so any new customers should make sure to grill them about it. Ask specifically if they have ever deleted a customer's data.

Good tool to use for sync up source data

  • April 15, 2021
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Very easy to set up and configure the tool, did not use many features as the project did not require it
upside -- easy to monitor the loads
-- easy to set up the tool
What do you dislike about the product?
failures, resulting in a delay in updates, most of the job failures are getting fixed by themselves, which makes it difficult to answer the root cause
Many times failed but delay in the response from "fivetran "on real-time data, causing the reality of the tool
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Sync up the source system to the reporting database, very useful for getting real-time reporting
the project is to sync up the source data for reporting in near real-time ( 15 minutes interval)
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Good tool, easy to install and maintain
