Responsive Phrase Support

  • June 02, 2021
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
A few days back, I encountered a problem figuring out why format_options isn't applying when being configured in .phrase.yml through android studio plugin. I raised this concern in phrase support, and luckily we found out that it's an undocumented bug in using the phrase plugin for android studio. Someone from phrase support recommended using the CLI for it, and fortunately, everything seems to work as desired. Having responsive support meant so much for both ends, especially on our side, working under some time frames.
What do you dislike about the product?
Not so much, maybe I would just suggest for the phrase team to thoroughly update all the needed documentation to make it more informative on the users side knowing that a particular functionatility is either working or not. This is to cause no further headaches and delays on debugging on the end users side. :)
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Working on localization to provide a rich user experience to various users is quite uneasy to handle, but with phrase, the complexity in managing this type of task is lessened and makes the developers more productive.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Go and try using Phrase. It is such a good tool for handling localization/translation management.

User-friendly interface

  • May 30, 2021
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The interface is easy to use and teach. Among all the CAT tools presented in the Translation Technologies and Translation Project Management courses, Memsource has been the most preferred one due to its user-friendly interface and fast technical support when needed. Students can learn about the steps of a translation project from start to end by logging into a single CAT tool and they can explore it themselves without much need for guidance as the interface is easy to adapt.
What do you dislike about the product?
There is nothing I dislike about Memsource.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I use Memsource to teach students about CAT tools in Translation Technologies and Translation Project Management courses. I have realized that for new learners, Memsource is the easiest to adapt, thanks to its user-friendly interface. We find everything we need quickly on the homepage. Also, we like its all-in-one approach from project creation to quoting and from direct communication within the team to Client review. Another benefit is the training material offered by Memsource. Both the online training materials and the free webinars offered on a regular basis keep the users up-to-date and engaged.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
I recommend Memsource for instructors who want to focus more on practice and lose less time on solving the technical problems encountered by the students. With the help of the technical support team, courses become much more productive. Also, the training material and webinars offered by Memsource help students engage in a larger community of professionals and provide them with valuable insights. These benefits are applicable for freelance translators as well.

Great and simple tool

  • May 19, 2021
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Searching content in source and target is simple thanks to dedicated imput fields. It is possible to work in web or desktop editor, Machine translation provided by clients is seamlessly integrated. When project is prepared well, the user does not need to establish any MT, TM or glossary connections and can work on the file straight away. The tool is seamlessly integrated into client's TMS, so there is no need for e-mail communication, downloading files TMs, glossaries etc.
What do you dislike about the product?
Concordance search could be more accessible, there is a separate window for the Search funkctionality, which causes the user to hide TM hits. It might be better. Glossary hits are not easy to notice, a Wordfast-like glossary recognition system would help a lot. QA often takes too long and has to be re-run after any changes in the translated file. Often it is not possible to deliver the file without ignoring all the false negatives. I also miss an export function, which would help me valdate the file in external tools, such as word, Xbench etc.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It is a preferred tool for some major clients, and its ease of use makes such jobs effective and attractive for me. With some other clients, which insist on using their own preferred tools and invironments, this requirement reduces my effectiveness, causing the jobs to be less attractive to me and I am less likely to accept them. This is not the case with Memsource.

Memsource adaptive workflow and translation management

  • May 18, 2021
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
In Memsource, you can specify unique workflows per each content type and/or product line. Because memsource is heavily invested in endpoint APIs, you can define any type of workflow based on your criteria and requirements.
- For legal, we have full workflow Translation, editing, review, and review #2
- for Support, we have a partial workflow in translation and editing
- for production UI, we have a different workflow depends on the language. Some languages go through T, E, and R while others go to T and E, or T and R.

also, we are focusing on vendor-agnostic model and Memsource can support this type as well. Each vendor is assigned per job, and a job equals to a language. That means 10 jobs, 2 jobs can assign to vendor A and 8 jobs can assign to vendor B.

Lastly, Memsource support varieties of Machine Translation + built-in as well so you can use some of the top MT engines
What do you dislike about the product?
Termbase is still lacking the industry standard and the permission level needs to improve.
They just recently deployed a Google Chrome plug-in for termbase import/export and it's a one step further to automatically push any new terms for translations and sync back to the glossary. I think more improvement is definitely needed such as a rejection/approval, dashboard...etc
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Customization and flexibility on how a translation project can be handled by vendors. As we are approaching vendor-agnostic models, using Memsource is helping us to stay in a single tech platform, but working with multiple vendors at once.

Review about Memsource

  • May 18, 2021
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The CAT tool is very complete and has many functions and features. The Memsource team is constantly improving and adding new functionalities. The account management is quite helpful and always willing to listen to our proposals.
What do you dislike about the product?
I contact their Customer Support and the Help Centre often, and for some more specific issues, there hasn't been a solution given.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Automating the whole translation and review process
Creating a Translation Memory that reduces some translation costs
Term bases are very helpful to assure consistency

Fast and reliable

  • May 18, 2021
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Simple and easy to use, Memsource is a valuable tool for me as a student who is learning how to use CAT tools. In addition to this, Memsource has great customer support that helped me greatly with the technical problems I had encountered.
What do you dislike about the product?
Setting up a project seems a bit of a lengthy process, I wish there would be something like a pre-save button that has the working languages already checked off so that you would not have to search for the languages and set up the previous settings every time. But that is not a huge issue.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Translating texts using Memsource and storing my glossaries.

User-friendly, intuitive tool

  • May 18, 2021
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I think the learning curve when it comes to Memsource is quite gentle which makes the tool easy to handle, even for new PMs. You can monitor every step of the process, edit the files even after uploading them into the tool and control the use of MT. You can keep all your analysis and costs in one space, which is a great bonus, and the Memsource team always stays in touch! I have worked with many tools but so far, Memsource seems to be the most user-friendly so far. Every time there is an issue or a bug to report, we can always count on swift consultation with the Memsource team and it shows that the company is willing to learn, improve and further adapt to its stakeholder's needs and expectations.
What do you dislike about the product?
I think Memsource could use more filtering options and customization settings (e.g.: Always filter by language, Cost estimating per Cost center). Other than that, it's a great tool.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We handle most of our projects via the tool. The integrations with GitHub, Google Drive and our internal tools have been a great improvement when it comes to project managing process.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Definitely worth checking out for all people interested - due to the tool's versatility and ability to adapt to the company that needs to be using it, it can be a great improvement to any localization department. Memsource team is always happy to set up or attend a meeting and explain, show and walk you through what might work for your specific case.

Very simple but lacks necessary features (worse than Trados)

  • May 14, 2021
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Very simple. Translators do not have to read manuals before starting translation.
Cloud sync works effectively and smoothly. It is great that translators do not have to worry about data loss on their local PCs.

Support staff is very friendly and polite. They have been doing their best to solve the problems, like a professional concierge.
What do you dislike about the product?
Memsource lacks a lot of necessary features. Memsource features are less than 1/10 of Trados' features.

Online Editor screen is pretty tough to read words/characters. This software is not created from the perspective of translators. Seemingly, Memsource staff released this software without fully consulting with translators. They are improving the features year by year, but its speed is not satisfactory.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
1. Change in font type
For instance, we cannot even change the font types of source and target segments in the Editor screen. Translators pay extra attention to fonts, but Memsource does not allow us to change font types.

If a client provides a source file tough to read in the default font type, translators sometimes change source font types. Moreover, before completing the translation project, I change Target font types to find some errors from a different perspective, but I cannot do it in Memsource.

Trados, memoQ, Wordfast, and other all major CAT tools allow translators to change font types.

2. Support staff time zone
Memsource staff works in the European time zone, and Asian translators have difficulty in receiving support timely. Trados provides a support center in various time zones, and Asian translatrrs can get the necessary help within a few hours.

Moreover, remote support is not provided while Trados provides.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
If you are a translation company staff or a end source client, Memsource would make your task much easier. Meanwhile, if you are a translator, Trados will be simply better in daily translation work.

    Translation and Localization

Straightforward and effective program

  • May 13, 2021
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The best part about Memsource is how easy it is to figure out. But even though it is straightforward, it can do so much to help automate project workflow and provides valuable features. Their customer service is fantastic and super responsive if an issue ever arises.
What do you dislike about the product?
No significant downsides, but I do hope some features will be added in the near future. Specifically, I wish we had the ability to download a complete bilingual file. (Currently, we can download a bilingual doc file, but repetitions are grayed out and not included in the target column.)
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Memsource makes it easy to track projects and share projects with our vendors.

Great translation tool and management system!

  • May 11, 2021
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
It's a user-friendly tool with an intuitive interface and lots of useful features. I love that it's available both online and offline, and it provides exhaustive QA and terminology checks. Also, when you have any issues, the support team answers in no time with a solution!
What do you dislike about the product?
Sometimes the desktop version doesn't synchronize that well. Also, when working on the web editor, it can take some time to load the segments (especially with larger projects), and at times it does not respond as expected.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Memsource saves me a tremendous amount of time translating thanks to the termbases and the translation memories, so I can work more efficiently and deliver more accurate translations in less time.
