Decent CAT tool with unclear future for linguists
What do you like best about the product?
I’ve been using Phrase/Memsource as a translator every day for the last 2.5 years, and also on and off for 4 years before that. It’s a decent tool with all the usual CAT (computer-assisted translation) features, especially if project managers have linguists in mind when setting up a project. The visual design was recently improved. Outages happen rarely, and when they happen the company is transparent about them. Customer support was very prompt to answer when I contacted them.
What do you dislike about the product?
I'm not sure tools for linguists are their priority nowadays. They seem to concentrate on project management and AI. The TM search is quite inconvenient, editing is tricky when a segment includes big chunks of text rather than a single sentence (which can happen through exporting). It’s also a shame that they are deprecating their mobile app for linguists, it’s been quite a useful tool.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
As a CAT tool, it makes translation faster and easier, especially if you work with large continuous texts, such as legal documents and articles. It helps me preserve consistency with previous translatons and adhere to termbases. It’s less convenient for software localization, which often requires deviating from previous translations (button vs. header, space limitations, etc.).

What do you like best about the product?
Setting up Phrase was quite easy and intuitive. Features are numerous and ever-growing. This company is quite agile and responds readily to customer demands. Support is fast and interactive. Integration with most common media and storage spaces is available. Generally, a very positive experience on a daily basis for project managers as well as translators.
What do you dislike about the product?
I would love to see more language-specific features in the editor, especially regarding language-specific typographic rules.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The complexity of projects in terms of cross-related projects and the number of languages and providers.

Fast and user-friendly translation tool
What do you like best about the product?
It's fast and efficient, very easy to use once you get familiar with it (which takes very little time!).
What do you dislike about the product?
I wish the search function for past TM matches was more thorough. If you search for a phrase made up of 2 or more words, it usually shows you a lot of results with either one word or the others; it would be more helpful if you could search the exact phrase and only show that specific word combination, not the individual words.

I do like how Phrase can be one place for localization specialists and translators to work together in one place.

With the new editor,Phrase starts to show many issues, and can not fix it quichly.

It's quick even on slower machines and the browser version is on point.

Missing ai driven suggestions and fragment recognitions.

Phrase has accelerated and streamlined my work
What do you like best about the product?
I use Phrase to translate documents and presentations for my clients. It has greatly simplified my work by providing an easy-to-use interface for translating, while the featured translation memories and term bases accelerate my workflow and ensure consistency. The integrated machine translation feature is helpful. The quality control tool goes way beyond what the Office editor can do. Whenever I have a specific use case or problem, their customer support is friendly, quick and competent and will quickly provide me with a Screencast to solve any issues.
What do you dislike about the product?
From my perspective as a freelance translator working mostly alone, I don't see any downsides to using Phrase. Whenever I do have a specific problem, their customer support is quick to help.

machine translation pre-translates the next segment automatically when you confirm the previous one, I would change this

It helps with repeated fragments, it solves pagination issues
Phrase is an adequate online TM platform but with limited review and proofreading functionality
What do you like best about the product?
The most useful feature of Phrase is how quick it is to use: being able to click on a link from a client reduces the time associated with setting up and starting new projects.
What do you dislike about the product?
A huge limitation is the inability to view source files or preview translations for all file formats. This particularly applies to web-based content. Not being able to see the structure of a text on the page makes it very hard to produce meaningful content.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Phrase gives me quick access to new jobs from clients and reduces the time taken to start new projects.
Helpful for Japanese engineers
What do you like best about the product?
Machine translation from Japanese to English is not very accurate, so it is helpful to have a workflow that allows multiple people to make corrections.
What do you dislike about the product?
Translation of numbers. When used the translation memory for a sentence including number, the number is not automatic corrected.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Outsourcing the translation of documents with a technical background often does not go well, so in-house translation is highly advantageous.

What do you like best about the product?
Ease of use, compatibility with different browsers. In my opinion, it is the best online TAO tool.
What do you dislike about the product?
It could include better grammar check options. I had to buy a browser extension to help me with this.

You need a better grammar checker.
