Excellent product, support and offers peace of mind!
What do you like best about the product?
Proofpoint's Email protection suite is organized in a modular configuration, offering the ability to add and remove components as needed, which also helps with overall pricing. We've been using the core anti-spam/virus, dynamic reputation and the advanced threat protection services. The services in general offer a high level of protection against e-mail based threats with very high accuracy rates and minimal false positives. The services are highly configurable giving you the ability to tailor policies/rules to match your organizations policies. This is also a highly stable platform with the ability to easily scale the platform to meet ones given performance requirements. Proofpoint also offers some of the best support in the industry for their product.
What do you dislike about the product?
There's really not a lot to dislike with this product, short of possibly negotiating a reasonable price for the product. Having said that, Proofpoint has been pretty flexible in working with us to stay within our budget constraints.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Given that e-mail originating attacks are some of the most successful attacks these days, it really boils to preventing viruses/malware/ransomware and so from getting to our clients systems. From a day to day perspective this translates to less time spent dealing with compromised systems, fewer support calls and a lower risk of data leakage. Proofpoint's services are extremely reliable and accurate which allows us to focus on our jobs and not have to incur the overhead of dealing the results of under performing products.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Would highly recommend for a number of reasons. The visibility and insights into your mail flow provided by the product is excellent, reducing the amount of time to identify/resolve most issues. The level of accuracy with the product is high, reducing the number of support calls. If there are problems, the support offered is some of the best in the industry.

Proofpoint Email Security and Protection
What do you like best about the product?
Proofpoint is a mature email security solution to protect your company from malicious emails and unwanted SPAM, with the ability to fine tune rules to suit your needs. The administrator portal is easy to use and there are continual updates to the product.
What do you dislike about the product?
There's not much to dislike really - perhaps a bit challenging with the safelisting email services such as Marketo, Mailchimp, etc (that isn't a specific issue with this vendor, it would affect all vendors).
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Email is a common vector for attacks now, with phishing, malware, etc, and it's important to have a good solution in place to filter out unwanted email (while allowing the required email)
Recommendations to others considering the product:
The performance and quality of the service is excellent
Best email filter I've ever used
What do you like best about the product?
It just works. User complaints of spam or false positives have seen a drastic reduction. Managing spam filter used to take up much of my time on a daily basis. Since Proofpoint, it has made my job much easier as an administrator and it makes the users happy. It auto updates and I feel our data is more secure. Customer support is great.
What do you dislike about the product?
I can't think of anything I dislike. I would recommend this to anyone.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Drastic reduction in successful phishing attempts. Reduces costs.

Positive Proofpoint Experience
What do you like best about the product?
We've been a Proofpoint customer for two years now and are very pleased with the product. It provides us with an additional layer of email security that protects our network and provides us peace of mind. The ability to drill down into the product to determine why something has been quarantined or blocked is very useful. I have used other products in the past and this is by far the best and most feature-rich application that I've come across. In particular I like that it is cloud based and does not require any additional hardware at our location. We have not had a single outbreak in our environment due to malware, spam, or phishing attacks since implementing Proofpoint. I highly recommend this product.
What do you dislike about the product?
Email Security and Protection is quite difficult to setup initially. Thankfully customer support is very responsive to assist with any problem I've had to date. Proofpoint did provide someone to help with the initial deployment, but, I've not really had anyone contact me to discuss new improvements with the product, or to provide information on configuration/patch updates that I should be made aware of. I think it would be nice to have someone go through the changes with us once in awhile so we know what improvements have been made with the main product.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
As I indicated above, the primary purpose of Email Security and Protection is to provide email filtering for spam, malware and phishing. This product achieves this very well. It automates some of the more tedious IT tasks and provides the ability to analyse why something is being blocked or quarantined. URL filtering as well is useful, in that it ensures that links in emails are not being used to transmit malware to end-users.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
I researched other products out there before recommending Email Security and Protection. This solution provided the most features as compared to the other products, with the additional benefit of integrating with our Palo Alto Networks appliances.
Reduced amount of incidents in malware getting thru email
What do you like best about the product?
Very granular customization. We handle email for multiple organizations. Each org has their own needs for message filtering
What do you dislike about the product?
Threat dash board. not very helpfull. Although it gives you a lot of info about a paticular threat it doesnt make it easy to track all the users who a an email was sent to.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
PHI protection and securing email with our business partners.
1. Enforcing TLS with our business partners ensures that all email is sent securely even if sender forgets to send securely
2. Enforce encrytion by adding #secure to the subject
3. Filters that scan email for PHI data and enfoce encryption if present
Sending encrypted attachments can be problematic for recipients which forced them to create a login and remember passwords. With the use of policy routes you can bypass attachment encryption with organizations you have established TLS. Email still gets sent securely and much easier for business processes

Proofpoint Email Security and Protection is a highly configurable email security appliance.
What do you like best about the product?
The configurable nature of the applianace makes proofpoint a very versatile tool. Almost any characteristic of the email threat detection and spam filtering can be modified to suit your needs. Upgrades are generally painless, and trouble free. Tracking down lost of improperly filtered messages is aslo pretty transparent, once you're familiar with the device. Overall I'd say that PPS is a great appliance for an email administrator who isn't afraid to get their hands dirty and learn the tools.
What do you dislike about the product?
The flip side of the high level of configurability is, that it is sometimes difficult to find the options you'd like to configure. This, I think, is difficult to avoid though.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We mainly use PPS as an anti-spam, anti-phish, and anti-virus platform. We see something like a 90% reduction in the number of messages sent to our users, because all of the junk is filtered out before an end user ever has to deal with it.
The Standard in E-Mail Security
What do you like best about the product?
Proofpoint is great right out of the box, it guards against several types of malware, phising attacks, etc.
What do you dislike about the product?
It is quite costly as they do not really have a small-to-medium business pricing.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are guarding against phising and ransomware.
Current customer of Email Security and Protection
What do you like best about the product?
The ease of use and the protection they provide
What do you dislike about the product?
Not much but customer service was a concern that they took care of
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Impostor emails, phishing, malware, spam protection
ProofPoint is the frontline warrior for our enterprise email. Best in class by far.
What do you like best about the product?
We love the support we get for whatever issues we need looked at. Even at the hardware refresh, we are led by a PP engineer through the whole process and they make it quick and painless. The constant virus/spam definitions being distributed automatically make administration a non-event. The product is also teamed with enterprise grade hardware that we rarely have to troubleshoot. Most of the time just a simple drive replacement is all that is needed to get back on track.
What do you dislike about the product?
The Microsoft Outlook plug-in could use some better support. Sometimes Outlook throws an error at startup for the plug-in. Sometimes if resources are getting hammered, it would be good to receive an email from the cluster to let us know of potential issues. It's not the cheapest email system around but it is worth its weight in gold. For the occasional false positive, we could usually have just added certain domains to a safe domains list therefore not having to deal with user complaints. If only we had time for everything the users needed done.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The problems we are solving are not letting malware/viruses/ransomware/etc into our Exchange stream. This helps our users stay as safe as possible. The system also lets us split the destinations between internal servers depending on the custom rules we have created. By using the support resources at Proofpoint, we don't have to spend money getting intergraters or 3rd party vendors to help get things set up and online. Very straightforward even when we need to talk to someone on the phone.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
This product is in the top of the Gartner Magic Quadrant and should be seriously considered if you wish to protect your organizations from worldwide threats coming through email.
Great vendor, great product
What do you like best about the product?
The amount of depth you can achieve with custom transport rules is incredible. A bit overwhelming at the outset, but over time as more use cases come up, it's possible to achieve just about anything with the right combination of conditions.
What do you dislike about the product?
Because of the way threat scoring and threat sandboxing is done, it's simply not possible to prevent every threat from being delivered to recipients' mailboxes. I would prefer some additional options around delivery of suspected malicious content.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The biggest benefit we've realized is a decrease in message-based threats reaching our end-users, resulting in fewer resources needed to investigate incidents and lower costs of incident response. Proofpoint has helped us narrow the gate on social engineering attacks.
