Automated processes improve efficiency while user interface and accessibility need enhancements

  • May 06, 2025
  • Review from a verified AWS customer

What is our primary use case?

In my role as an integrator, my primary use cases for IBM Watson Studio involve advanced analytics and predictive analytics for telecommunications, banks, and similar large enterprises. My customers utilize IBM Watson Studio for data cleansing, prediction, deployment, scoring, and other data science-related tasks.

What is most valuable?

In my experience, AutoML is the most valuable feature of IBM Watson Studio. This capability saves a significant amount of time by automating processes that typically involve manual work, such as data cleaning, feature engineering, and predictive analytics, and it does these efficiently for numerous models at once. Additionally, IBM Watson Studio now includes some generative AI models built in, which is also beneficial.

What needs improvement?

IBM Watson Studio, while powerful, lacks user-friendliness. It is not easy to use, particularly for medium or small enterprises or less experienced staff. Another aspect that requires improvement is the complexity involved in computer vision tasks. The integration capabilities have not significantly impacted workflow since there are simpler tools like Alteryx and Nine. The platform is associated with a complicated setup process and demands heavy hardware, making it expensive to scale. IBM should work on optimizing the user interface and enhancing the product's accessibility for medium and small enterprises.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been working with IBM Watson Studio for maybe three to four years.

What was my experience with deployment of the solution?

Setting up IBM Watson Studio is a complex, IT-based process that includes tasks such as sizing based on intended use cases, setting up Kubernetes clusters for scalability, obtaining authorizations from IT teams, and more. The whole deployment process usually takes about a month.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

IBM Watson Studio is generally stable, though there are instances where it stalls during large-scale data calculations. Expertise in optimization is necessary to manage such issues effectively.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

I rate IBM Watson Studio seven out of ten for scalability because while it scales, it requires significant resources to do so, making it expensive compared to some competitors. The same tasks could be performed with fewer resources using other products.

How are customer service and support?

The technical support for IBM Watson Studio is challenging, with a rating of five. The community access is weak, which limits the ability to engage in discussions and find documentation and examples of similar cases effectively.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Neutral

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

Nine and Alteryx are simpler and more intuitive compared to IBM Watson Studio.

How was the initial setup?

I rate the initial setup as six, indicating it is somewhat difficult to set up. It involves a complex, IT-based process which is not straightforward.

What was our ROI?

My customers have seen returns on investment through increased efficiency, automated calculations, improved accuracy in pricing, and reduced staffing needs due to the automation. However, the ROI could be improved considering IBM Watson Studio's cost.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

IBM Watson Studio is considered rather expensive, with a rating of six or seven. The pricing could be optimized relative to the features and capabilities of the product.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

Nine and Alteryx are considered better alternatives due to their ease of use.

What other advice do I have?

I would rate IBM Watson Studio overall as a seven. Although IBM Watson Studio has numerous valuable features, it is not user-friendly, especially for medium and small enterprises, and would benefit from improvements in its user interface and user experience.

Overall Complexity

  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Getting the correct response is essential in currect AI related market and watson gets the job done. Though you have to be precise regarding your prompts and explain the situation and then provide the prompt.
What do you dislike about the product?
Sometimes after providing the precise prompts the answers are quite repitative.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
First and the formost it boosts the productivity. It is 10 fold to ask the watson rather then rabbit hole on google or stackoverflow.
Also, the data processing is first and accurate and eventualy you will get the clean datasets or data.

wx.data usage

  • June 17, 2024
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Getting started with watsonx.data is pretty straightforward, making it accessible even for those new to data analysis. The platform offers an intuitive interface to setup processes with ease. wx.data's integration with other IBM services further simplifies the implementation of simple solutions, allowing users to leverage machine learning models and analytics tools. This streamlined approach enables users to focus on deriving insights and value from their data rather than getting bogged down in the complexities of data infrastructure setup.
What do you dislike about the product?
When we are talking about advanced and in-depth analytics, the platform still lacks easier and faster integrations in order to be used as a service in a Python notebook, the libraries are very complex and take too much time to handle simple requests.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are currently using wx.data as a lab for future clients.

Though the tool provides exclusive features to run Python codes in a certain environment, it needs to improve support

  • June 22, 2023
  • Review provided by PeerSpot

What is our primary use case?

It was used for some basic purposes because all I did was use Jupyter notebooks to run codes on the Snowflake environment. This was done by me at my previous job. I had just started using Jupyter notebooks to run Python codes on Snowflake data warehouses.

How has it helped my organization?

I was really more on the engineering side of things. The data scientists built certain models around it. So that, I guess, was a very big improvement.

What is most valuable?

For me, the valuable feature of the solution is the one that I used, which was Jupyter notebooks. Also, I think the data scientists used it to train their models. I am not the biggest user of it.

What needs improvement?

I think maybe the support is an area where it lacks. From my talks with the administrator, I think the support could be improved. My usage of it was limited to Jupyter notebooks.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have experience with IBM Watson Studio for about a couple of months, like three months. Also, I don't remember the version of the solution I was using.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Stability-wise, I rate the solution a seven out of ten.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Scalability-wise, I rate the solution a six out of ten. However, I am not the best person to judge the solution based on scalability.

How was the initial setup?

The solution is deployed on the cloud.

What was our ROI?

I would think that my organization had seen a return on investment. However, I am not the best person to speak on its ROI.

What other advice do I have?

To those evaluating the product, I would say it's a good product to use from what I know, and it's not bad. Right now, we're just really making comparisons. I rate the overall solution a seven out of ten.
