Standard in Mapping Software
What do you like best about the product?
I have been working with ESRI products for well over 10 years now, and its been amazing to see how quickly the technology has been evolving and streamlining. It always seems to be one step ahead in anticipating the needs and requirements of its customers, clients and the public at large. The accessibility to online training is also a tremendous asset.
What do you dislike about the product?
Along the same lines as why I like ESRI products - the speed at which the software is developing and changing year to year creates some challenges in trying to understand new functionality
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I work in a contingency and emergency operations center for the US Army Corps of Engineers, and we have been developing numerous emergency dashboards and story maps to relay information relating to wildfires, hurricanes, etc. We have devleoped viewers for our power missions, blue roof missions and debris missions using AGOL, and using them to brief our senior leaders.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Take as much training as you can, there is so much to learn about this product

ArcGIS can't be beat
What do you like best about the product?
It is the powerhouse of all things mapping. I love the way the entire ESRI suite let's me interact with data and produce maps to change the world. I love SDE databases and how easy they make it to share data across different agencies.
What do you dislike about the product?
Some of the geoprocessing tools are inefficient and poorly designed. The error messages are not helpful. Please get rid of the 999999 error and figure out a way to tell users why certain geoprocessing operations fail. I have worked with Java, JavaScript (several frameworks), Rails, lots of python outside of ESRI, and ESRI's error messages are seriously lacking in quality. Please get rid of the 999999 error and provide an actual reason why it failed. It's just not acceptable. Also, half of the time when a geoprocessing tool that fails, arcmap quits. Please build better error handling into the arcgis pro tools. (I understand arcmap isn't going to be changing much...)
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?

What do you like best about the product?
We use ArcGIS for asset management of our transmission and distribution system. Without it we couldn't manage our workplan for maintenance. We use it for planning, storm restoration and just about anything esle you can think of. ArcGIS tools are easily accessible to new users who are unfamiliar with GIS.
What do you dislike about the product?
I hate the red tape with trying to deploy things to masses. Our users are not tech savy and have problems with setting up apps on their phone which makes it difficult to deploy apps. I also get tired of having to use a third party vendor to make the ESRI core product useable..
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It is instrumental in planning, trouble calls, and storm restoration. We also use it to plan overhead groundwire replacement projects based on age, issues associated with aging infastructure, and environmental factors.

ArcGIS Review after 15 years user expereice
What do you like best about the product?
easy to use, technolody changes and but core function are still there
What do you dislike about the product?
many chnages happening, a little hard to keep up with. ArcSDE is its own world not really database freindly.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We used for spatial analysis, density analysis, all kinds of reporting, a lot of files need to be tansferred back and forth. epsecially geoprocessing are its own set, wasted a lot of space and could create confusion in the file structure
